Barry: I know you have feelings for me too.
Iris: How do you know that?
Barry: I...ugh went to the future where we made out after you confessed your love for me.
Iris: ...

Joe: I was scared. Wells killed Mason Bridge.
Iris: He did what?
Joe: ...Fuck.

It was damn comical. Really brought to light just how much they've been keeping from her, and the absurdity of lying to her in the first place.

Do people really expect much of Grodd next season? He'll get an episode or 2, but there's a reason this episode was set in a dark sewer and frequently had him standing still..

Yeesh. Look, we didn't even think they'd seriously do Grodd. They did. And they pulled him off for the most part. I have absolute faith he'll return, and they'll figure out ways for him to venture into the outside world during the day.

This show is fearless when it comes to pushing boundaries of what should be possible.

Of course he'll return. I'm questioning the posts here and leading up to this episode that are like "He'll be the big bad of season 2!" type of expectations.

I wouldn't say they are fearless based purely on this episode. They know they had to keep him in the sewers for budget reasons, and that's going to be a key part of any stories they develop for him.

I want Grodd to come back and climb to the top of the tallest skyscraper and try to swat at planes.

It's amazing how I went from not really liking this show in the beginning since the first episode was extremely corny but it's so much better than Arrow now.

Him being the Big Bad is more looking at Flash's rogues gallery and seeing that Grodd is the next biggest threat after Reverse Flash. I mean I guess they could do Barry against The Rogues next year, but Grodd seems the more immediate threat.

Unless they pull an Arrow and he fights Zod or some such.

Barry, you are heir to Krypton... son of El

Making a CG tiger brought the production crew for Life of Pi to their knees. And that was just a regular ass tiger. No way is a little show on the CW going to be able to do a fully articulate and intelligent gorilla - especially for fight scenes - on a network TV budget.

Be real, you guys.

You know nothing Jon Snow

Umm, the hate on Iris in this episode is ridiculous...

Anyway, HYPE!

Wells is definitely the guy on Gaf spoiling all the shit. He probably watched the first 4 eps of GoT when they got leaked. Probably told Eddie everything that happened, he'll never be able to watch GoT again.

For him Game of Thrones has been over for centuries... Still waiting on that last book though.

Who is paying for everything? I always thought Wells was footing the bill.

I'm sure he still is, I imagine he's made some wise investments over the last 15 years.

I'm expecting Grodd to be a major player next season. Resolve the wells line this season and trigger flashpoint. Deal with flashpoint to start next season. Have the main story line of season 2 being about grodd getting revenge for his father. With the rogues gallery showing up for a number of eps as well.

The big question will be if TNT's Titans series will also be set in the arrowverse even though it's not on CW. If it is I imagine that the flash and the spin off will be the grounds to introduce most of the titans. If it's not it will beg the question if a character like Cyborg could show up in the flash.

At this point is the TNT show still even going forward? We haven't heard anything about it in ages it seems. Besides, with the lack of involvement Belanti probably means it won't be. =\

Back at the start of S1, people thought Grodd would be just an easter egg. Even when we got confirmation he'd appear, people thought he'd do nothing. They also didn't think Flash would have such good effects on a weekly basis.

Is Grodd going to be in every episode?

No. But strategically placed as the big bad over an entire season? Why not. I mean he doesn't have to be in more than a handful of episodes to achieve that. And they can allocate the budget accordingly.

That's true and if they have him controlling other people like he did with Eiling in this episode then there's plenty they can do without having him on screen.

Joe: Listen, I had real concerns for your safety. Wells threatened to kill you as well in our home.
Iris: When was this?!

Keep in mind their budget will most likely be cut next season, giving them even less money to work with. Why even bother trying to write around such an expensive, effects heavy villain for your big bad knowing you will have less money if you don't need to?

Could they? Absolutely. I doubt they will though because it's just not practical. As was said, there's a reason Grodd's scenes were staged the way they were. Dude just cost too much money. I guess he could use people like puppets, but again, why bother when you could have another villain you don't have to bother with that shit for? Especially knowing that when he finally does appear on screen, there's still only so much you can do with him.

I'm tired of Iris.

I hope Flash goes to another alternate universe with a different actress Iris with likeable personality.

it's supposed to cast and film the pilot this year still, if it's been cancelled it hasn't been announced.

they also said that they are open to doing a cross over with arrow/flash, but weren't clear if they would be part of the arrowverse. at the very least it's not like TNT and CW aren't partially owned by the same company.

If they want to keep the stakes high they kind of have a need. I mean they could choose a different big bad but it can't be the rogues.

They are fine enemy of the week type enemies, but I can't really imagine a story with them where they were the big bad for the season that I could remotely invest myself into like I have with the reverse flash. They are just to cartoony to be the big bad.

INTERNET: They can't pull super speed off weekly.
(Show does)
INTERNET: They can't keep the effects quality up.
(Show does)
INTERNET: Yeah, well Grodd will never really appear on the show.
(He does.)

I get your points, but this show does the most absurd shit on a CW budget. While logic would say you're absolutely right, this show really doesn't operate on any sort of logic; they challenge themselves to find a way to do the impossible.

But this is a case where we have an entire episode that shows just how hard this particular character is to do with what they have. Still impressive they pulled it off, but it didn't exactly inspire confidence that they could do it for an entire season. A two-three episode arc is probably the best you can hope for from Grodd.

Fuck all the iris haters; she was spittin some truth this episode. Great episode overall. I'm ultra hyped for next week.

Iris please stop. One of the most irritating characters on television. Barry with all these cool powers that you posses, you have to hit on this irritating chick? They should have shown Eddie breathing a sigh of relief when Wells shows him that article.

I dunno, I've found a lot of people (usually men) have weird issues when it comes to female characters in shows... although at times they can be justified as they normally serve as the sorta 'buzzkill' character 99% of the time. In this? I don't think that's the case, I just think most have zero empathy for Iris for whatever reason even though she is perfectly justified. Hidden in the dark from just about every other person she knows? Of course she is going to be upset. Of course she has been acting ridiculous, she knew there was something more going on than anyone let on and she was absolutely right.

I can't see how anyone can hate Iris, her actress is great and she is 100% justified in her actions and reasoning.

the actress isn't the problem, it's the writing?

has the actress ever done anything of note? I mean going off the flash, even when the writing isn't a problem she doesn't seem to be a good actress. I've never felt any real chemistry between her and the other characters in the cast.

I mean hell, eddie and barry have a lot better chemistry than iris ever has with either of them.

It's a lot like with Friends where Monica and Ross are brother and sister, but they never feel like siblings together aside from the rare times the writing is focused on the fact they are siblings.

I do wonder how people are going to take the romance stuff in Supergirl. They can't write Kara as poorly as Iris or, god forbid, Laurel have been at times. She's the main character; they need us to like her.

So are we all gonna hop aboard the Jimmy Olsen hate express?

Last i heard of the Titan's show the name was being changed to Blackbirds. Don't know how accurate that it.

If the show is a success, and it is, why would they cut the budget?

It something that happens to all CW shows in their second season. Happened to Arrow despite it being a massive success in its first season too.

ollie is the main character of arrow and they sure as hell haven't remotely made me like him >.> Only reason I can tolerate to watch Arrow (which I find to be quite meh overall but am watching because of the crossover with flash) is the supporting cast. I wouldn't mind at all if the queen family was just gone from the series, but alas they couldn't pad 50% of the show with ollie flashbacks then.

and it will be weird seeing a new version of Jimmy Olsen, as he was one of the few things I enjoyed with the later seasons of smallville.

We liked him in the first two seasons. Then they fucking torpedoed his character. Or rather, we all got fed up with his shit this season.

Actors become more expensive the more they work on the show and thus become more valuable. That's why main casts usually shrink as shows progress.

Aaaaand there's the Iris hate. I think it was handled well. She gets to be angsty for an episode and is now on board with team Flash. The exact same thing happened with Joe at the start of the season - the writers know that the show can only work when team Flash is all on board with each other, so he was on board by the end of the episode.

Why do they gotta make someone so fine so annoying. Every time Iris talked this episode, I wanted someone to be like "bitch you just got here, there is a pecking order and you are a maggot"

Hopefully now that she knows she gets better.

And thumbs up to wells for crushing eddies hopes and dreams

Another great episode

- Iris was very likable for me this ep and I'm so happy we're finally moving on past the "keeping secrets from me" drama.

- Grodd is the fucking Gorrilla..Loving him as a current and future villain very much

- Wells steals the show again by owning Eddie. I felt like laughing and crying for him when Wells was telling him he ain't shit now and ain't gonna be shit ever.

The only thing I can't cope with is knowing that Wells is probably gonna get taken down and he's not gonna be the villain anymore. Tom Cavanagh does such a great job every week and I can't see the show being the same without him. I know it has to happen for the show to advance but i hope the bring him back sooner rather than later. I don't know what Flashpoint is but if that brings Wells back then I'll be all for it

you might have. I have hated ollie from the start (he's why I originally dropped the series and didn't get back to it until the flash drove me to give it another try). This season's ollie doesn't seem any better or worse than previous seasons... though the story line right now is pretty terrible.

The only time I didn't mind ollie was during his flashbacks and training with Yao Fei and slade. beyond that I haven't found him very likable.

The worst part for me is they set him up as some sort of tactical genius in the flash, but you almost never see any of that in arrow.

Arrowverse threads are officially the worst.

We get a Rogues episode? People complain.
We get a fun Felicity spouting bee puns? More complaints!
We get motherfucking Grodd! Welp.

Don't get me started on the Arrow thread. Season 3 has been awful but good lord.

Don't give two flying fucks how the gorilla looked or that they kept him in the darkness of the sewers. They made him a pretty effective villain for the day. Unlike most of the other throwaway villains that really aren't threatening outside of a scene or two. The bit with Joe and the gun was really good.

I want to see more Grodd next season not because I want to see more of his CGI. I wanna see how the handle his intelligence. He could end up being a Wells level manipulator by then and that would be cool.

Grodd was what I've been wanting from this show since it was announced. Can't believe I got to see him in the first season and he was done very well.

Or they could just bring in some styrofoam mesh suit Doomsday ala Arrow and Ra's and call it a day because reasons. Maybe that's what the people want. Screw Flash villains!

EDIT: Rahhh I'm so angry!!! I always forget to make my angry posts seem more sarcastic. Most of the thread liked this episode lol.

It reminds me of the scene when
captain cold and heatwave stealing the painting.

It was the same airport hanger in Arrow when thea's dead bodywas being strolled away to nanda parbat

A CG gorilla was also used in The 100. Seems like 2 other shows are sacrificed to carry The Flash budget.

That was a good fucking episode and Iris was fucking legit in this. Dropping truthbombs left and right.

And the Grodd CGI looked way better than the first time we saw him. Not Planet of the Apes level by a long shot, but above and beyond what you could normally expect from a network TV show.

I liked how they handled Iris in most of this. A bit cheeseball at the end, but appropriately angry without being over the top (as she has been sometimes before).

Also, was anyone else weirded out by how scared Joe was of Grodd? Like he was damn terrified when he got captured and when he was like "Barry, please get me out of here," I felt really bad for him. Dude was legit shook.

KNEEL BEFORE GRODD!

Although Arrow borrowing most of its villains doesn't mean the same will happen for Flash. Flash actually has more than a handful of good villains.

Grodd looked great :O Amazing performance by Joe again and angry Iris is the hottest Iris.

Dude, it's an angry Gorilla. You do know how brutal these animals can be?
Terrifying!

Neat

Jeez what crawled up your butt? I thought her reaction was fair.
We are on GAF you know.... If you your other half is kidnapped, your dad being held a captive and you found out every one you trust has been lying to you for months..... You are supposed to just shut the fuck up and don't even try to ask any questions or get angry for a couple minutes.

Well unless you are dude than its okay to behalf like a manchild for multiple seasons.

I was scared just from watching... Lol. Na tbh you habe a beast in front of you that could kill you any second.. Of course you would be scared as fuck.
