I know. That is why I asked earlier what there was out there that sustained the quality past the 5th or 6th season.

Someone else mentioned Stargate SG-1, and he is right. However, as much as I loved SG-1, it just stayed at the same consistent above average quality the entire run. It never really reached greatness, even if it came close a few times.

But most of the greats and well regarded shows only ran about 5 seasons, or if they ran longer there are only clusters that people really consider classic. Usually after a slow start. Thank god Flash has hit the ground running.

Like you said though, a lot of the greats tend to start slow and build up. The Flash has started fast and hard, and that's why I'm even more worried about following seasons than I have been about any other show.

EDIT: This picture is in no way meant to say that Flash will go the route of the Highlander film series after its first entry.
But, hey! Bonus points for bringing more Clancy Brown to the thread.

Buffy is a weird case because S1 is okay, S2 has a lot of terrible episodes, S3 is excellent, S4 has some of the shows best episodes and some absolute crap (the sex house...), and S5 mostly holds the line. But S6/S7 are.. not inspiring.

The Flash's success depends on whether they have a rough plan ala Arrow (hate Arrow all you will, it seems clear they have a five year plan of sorts.) I'm hoping Flash ends with the 2024 stuff. Whether that means S5 will be set in that decade, I don't know... but it could be a nice last chance to see Amell as Green Arrow...

What if... this is Flash's slow start?!

Honestly I feel Arrow was just practice for the showrunnners and that's why Flash is so good right now.

Not enough Question in the Arrowverse.

Finally, someone else.

I'd love for a scene where the Question just finds Oliver's hideout and it's like:

Oliver: How did you find me?

The Question: You know, for a night club, you sure do go through a lot of pain killers and medical supplies.

Oliver: You went through my trash?

The Question: Oliver, please. I go through everyone's trash.

Saving the best for last.
Y'all givin me a heart attack

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 22 "Rogue Air"

As Wells once again gets the upper hand on the S.T.A.R. Labs team, Barry realizes he needs to make a big move and reaches out to an old foe, Captain Cold, for help. Joe and Caitlin warn Barry that Cold can't be trusted.

That's not the full synopsis.

“Rogue Air”
As Wells (Tom Cavanagh) once again gets the upper hand on the S.T.A.R. Labs team, Barry (Grant Gustin) realizes he needs to make a big move and reaches out to an old foe, Captain Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller), for help. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) warn Barry that Cold can’t be trusted. True to form, Cold has his own agenda that involves the meta-humans trapped in the containment cells. As things seem to be going from bad to worse, The Flash gets reinforcements – Batman (guest star Ben Affleck) and Superman (guest star Henry Cavill). Doug Aarniokoski directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#122).

They actually achieved greatness with that episode. So good.

That one, Wormhole X-Treme and 200 are some of the best television I've ever seen, bar none. Also, 1967.

It also had beautiful final episode. Perfect ending of what the show was really about.

Stargate franchise produced some of the finest episodes in tv history. The shows as a whole might not have reached all-time classic status, but singular episodes sure did.
I still think Atlantis' Shrine is one of the finest hour of television, able to compete with anything the best cable shows ever did.

Yeah especially him hitting golf balls through the stargate

While the show could be a bit derivative at times (Voyager did a Space Race episode a few years before SG-1) it still had a wholly unique setting. I think one of the best parts of the series is how self aware they are. The show is set in our world (well close anyway), they have Star Trek and Star Wars. The people in the show were self aware that they were living in a "real" sci-fi show ("Sir, we can't call it the Enterprise").

What I also liked was the evolving Earth side. Sure, most of that was kept secret from general population, but after a while Earth started to become a real power. Building space ships, influencing galaxy etc. You could really feel the whole setting moving forward.

In ~15 years Earth went from not having a clue about the rest of the galaxy to the most powerful player in two galaxies.

Ehh....miss the IP so much. With all the sci-fi investments SyFy is doing you would think at least one would be a new Stargate.

I wrote it recently in other thread, but stuff like Flash or Arrow is really bringing me back to those old days of sci-fi shows. i mean..the long seasons, the characters that stayed with you for a year, the mix of serialized and crazy standalone eps and most of all the feeling of community, where each episode is aproached with excitement and then discussed endlessly on forums.

I know what you mean. I posted for years on the Sony Pictures Stargate forums and then GateWorld when the former was closed. If we can't get more Stargate then DC Capes are a good substitute.

I really need a good resolution for SGU. Season 2, especially the entire second half was some Danny good story, but they got shafted due to cancellation

Rick Cosnett, aka Eddie Thawne, talks about how "crazy" Season 2 will be:

Flashpoint. Gotta be Flashpoint.

Man, Eddie really is the best. He considers Barry Allen one of his best friends? Damn.

Rick Cosnett said:
This whole thing has been a big thing in his life, as one would expect when you’re captured by a supervillain, and then you find out that you’re his descendent and that your girlfriend is going to marry your best friend. It sucks.

Barry is just the closest guy to Iris so Eddie goes to him for help. "Hey, can you help me marry the woman you love? Thanks! BFFs for life"

The only time it looked like Barry didn't despise him was when he tried to break him out of jail so he didn't get wrongfully arrested. Other than that it's always "ah fuck, here comes Eddie thinking I give a fuck about his girl problems"
