I am sure A.R.G.U.S. has someone bringing food. In fact, I think it was stated in the interview that the prisoners are not starved. And well, I guess Star Labs feed theirs too. Maybe it's Barry's job, since he can fight back in case of an emergency.

Don't know about the cloud guy.

I would actually love an episode where the protagonists are side characters at best and we watch villains. What some of them do while jailed, what the others do to prepare for their jobs and what they do in their free time. I always love when DC shows villains just doing every day activity since their just human, too.

That would be cool. Arrow/Flashverse has a lot of interesting villains.

I'd be down with 60 minutes of Slade on the salmon ladder.

Hehe, I have to imagine that the ARGUS guy comes in to bring the food, just to find Slade having dissembled the bars of his prison to build a Salmon Ladder.

I think the prison is just there so they don't have to explain how and where the villains are kept and why they don't show up constantly. The logistics of the cleanup after villain battles isn't interesting and it isn't the focus of the show (until it's convenient for the plot, like with colossus getting freed), so I can suspend some disbelief at why it makes any sense for them to be kept in glass booths in a particle accelerator indefinitely.

I guess it would make more sense for ARGUS to have some sort of facility (Supermax?) where they keep evil metahumans, as opposed to 4 scientists being in charge of a complex full of an increasing number of really powerful people with powers.

Spartacus definitely spoiled me, but I feel like Manu should be wearing far less clothes on this show. Like, why even have shirts? He doesn't need them.
 
This show has the best music. The best main theme too. High scifi, so amazing. Destroys any competition. I cant even recall SHIELD/GOTHAM/ARROW music compared to it. (Except for one song, of course, at the end of shield's midseason break episode.)
 
Why did the cops let the Flash take the Pied Piper to STAR Labs? How did the Piper know that he'd be taken to STAR Labs? Why was he locked up in STAR Labs at the end and not a normal prison if he's not a metahuman?

Since Pieper knew about the connection between STAR Labs and the Flash, he just needed to send his message to Wells, to ensure that he would let Barry bring Pieper to him. The cops probably didn't have much of a choice when the Flash grabs him. And he was in that facility because Wells wanted it. I think the others didn't think that much about it, on the contrary Cisco and Cait probably enjoy a bit to have him caged in their reach.

A good episode. And as far as villains of the week go, Pied Pieper was one of the best IMO. He actually seemed clever and calculating without going total cheese (like Captain Cold).

I doubt the cops could have stopped the Flash taking him. It bugged me that the Flash took him to STAR Labs though as you say he is just a normal human with advanced weaponry. The metahumans are supposedly locked up until the gang can find a way to reverse the effects of the particle accelerator on them so how long did they plan to hold Pied Piper as his powers came from his gloves?

The particle accelerator becoming a prison has always seemed strange to me. The Flash gang locking people up for life no matter how serious the crime.

I thought the episode was one of the weaker flash episodes so far other than the Wells reveals.
 
Also who bets that the Particle Accelerator will be turned on again? That long of response and eerie atmosphere seems to be hinted that Wells might try again once more at some point.

They're called ___ of the week because the villain's plan is foiled in one episode. Sometimes that's a one and done for the villain and other times it isn't. For Cold and Heatwave, it's pretty clear that they're slowing building up the Rogues team. If they were to dedicate multiple episodes to that, then they couldn't very well develop the lead up to RF. Some villains need to have a smaller focus while others become the main. Splitting a season into, say 4 smaller arcs just won't end up having the big epic feeling episodes that a network wants to have for things like mid-season finale's and sweeps.

____ of the week episodes also give new viewers a chance to jump in mid-season without feeling completely lost like they would jumping into the middle of a heavily serial show.

Because it's mundane. May as well ask why we almost never see characters eat all their meals, visit the dentist, wash their clothes, etc... If it's not relevant to the plot, it's a waste of time and money for them and adds nothing for us as viewers.
 
Imagine if there was a Flash/SHIELD crossover and Skye was imprisoned at STAR Labs? The conversation would go full-circle.
 
That's one shitty costume, but to be fair it's not like the source material is any better :lol

Good episode. I see I wasn't the only one getting a weird "Wells is gay/scorned lover" subtext from Wells and Hartley's relationship.

I like that Barry took a back seat, this one was more about Cisco, Wells, and a bit of Iris.

Some questions I had about Pied Piper though:

- He develops the ear implants to stop the ringing in his ears? How did he get the ringing originally, the particle accelerator explosion? And how do the implants stop the ringing?

- How does he use his ear implants to blow up the door? The vibrational frequency gimmick?

- He said he was in unimaginable pain without the implants. How does he survive without them in the second half of the episode?

1) It probably gives off a counter-frequency to his ringing?
2) Super-science. He could've created special device that doubled to also able to blow up the door using its frequency.
3) He probably replaced it after leaving STAR Labs.


After seeing him briefly without his ear implant. It just seemed like he had super tinnitus. *meep* *meep*
 
Very enjoyable episode.

Loved the Pied Piper.

Also liked that the gave Cisco some room to grow. It was a long time coming, nice to see it finally happen.

Not sure about Iris as a journalist, but I'm open to seeing how it develops. Has a Vicky Vale feel to it...

Damn, Barry walked right into that one. He really needs to start coming up with some strategies instead of just running straight in and hoping his speed will be enough.

SPEEDFORCE! Glad they finally namedropped it.
 
Gotta say, I really love this show's portrayal of super science. The scene where Barry explains how piper blows stuff up was most excellent.

I do wish the writers would better address since of the shows plot holes and inconsistencies though, namely the internal and moral problems with the prison and Barry's inconsistent speed. I feel like both could have either been better explained or avoided entirely. That's the only thing about the show that feels very lazy to me.
 
Like, ok, let's say you want to get around the prison issue. There's no obvious reason why they couldn't have had Wells convince the city to let him design and run the a super prison. That would mean the public would learn about the existence of meta humans but so what? With the flash running around and the high frequency of meta human crime, people were going to take notice of then anyway. And yeah, maybe some would try to make a case for conspiracy connecting meta humans to the accelerator but there's no proof so again, what would it matter?

If the writers had wanted to, they could have had Wells convince the mayor either through wit or brute coercion that he should be the one to contain the new meta human threat. That would easily circumvent questions of staffing or legality since it would be all on the books.

He's been good but I find him reusing the same expression a bit too often. It's that slight smile with a hint of arrogance and condescension. It's done well but he relies on it too heavily.

The Barrowman is probably my favorite actor in the arrowverse.
