So, as I was re-watching the episode with my daughter, I thought it must be an amazing coincidence that
metahumans just keep popping up from the accelerator explosion, with the potential for more, with Caitlin and Cisco seemingly heading towards gaining powers.
.
Then, I had the thought, what if Wells is, in fact, from the future, and
he hires people specifically because they do end up being metahumans, as if that's all part of the bigger plan. In fact, that explains why he might hire Cisco, despite his less than professional demeanor and attire in comparison with the rest of the crew
.
I realize this would create a time loop of sorts, but I thought it's an interesting possibility. What say you, FlashGAF?
I'm a bit unsure about it because Wells seems to be causing events to happen according to his whims. Could Wells manipulate things to happen a certain way due to foreknowledge? Sure. But I don't think things are absolutely destined to happen.
both Caitlin and Cisco have obvious deficiencies as employees. I really can't peg down anything Cailtin has done that shows she's brilliant at her job, and Cisco is pretty flaky. I like both characters, but they do have weaknesses.
.
Of course, Wells doesn't seem to know everything that's going to happen, just major events in this particular timeline.
I don't see any deficiencies in Caitlin, she seems able to evaluate or interpret previously unseen phenomena at a glance. She like the Doctor version of Felicity the Super Hacker.
Cisco is capable of whipping up super-weapons unseen by modern science *in his spare time*. I'd say that excuses any flakiness, which seems mostly superficial.
The only person on the STAR Labs team that hasn't been shown to be unrealistically competent is Ronnie, and I'm sure that's because he hasn't been around.
Though if he knows that Cisco becomes Vibe, it would explain his faith in Cisco. After the Cold Gun got stolen, anyone else would have been fired. Not Cisco, which kinda implies that Wells knows that Cisco will go on to do great things.

Though it typically isn't a single group of people, DCAU for example had 3 different Royal Flush Gangs(Joker's, Ace's and finally the family in Beyond).

There is no way Wells hired the future Firestorm, Killer Frost and Vibe, by accident, to work alongside Barry Allen. He's trying to create some fan-fic style perfect timeline for reasons. Which explains him wanting to give Grodd a better future and getting pissed that Cisco made Captain Cold's cold gun.

Eh.. I think it's more of a coincidence tbh. I mean if the goal was to hire them because of who they become.. how does that even work under the guise of Star Labs? If they weren't brilliant in their field before they became Meta-Human.. how does he justify their hiring?
The Royal Flush Gang isn't an error, it is the same gang as appearing on Arrow.
The Royal Flush Gang got beat by four aces
And by four aces, of course we mean The Flash, Cisco, Caitlin, and Harrison. This gang first caused problems in Justice League of America #43 back in 1966. Over the years theyve appeared with and without superpowers. True fans know that this particular gang first appeared on Arrow as bank robbers. This explains why there are only three cards in the deckone of them died in Olivers arms.

Killer Frost is usually depicted as a high-end scientist before she gets superpowers. Cisco and Ronnie got intelligence upgrades for the show, but that's a good thing given the two of them are (heroic) idiots in the comics.
Course, my theory is Wells was hoping Ronnie'd die in the Particle Accerlator explosion and accidentally created a wild card.
One of them died. I don't remember if the rest were caught or escaped. But we don't see their faces in the Flash episode. Just their helmets.

The stingers continue being the worse part of this show by far, its just nonsensical clunky nerd babble that its supposed to have a pay-off but since they are so separated from the main show they lack any short of importance, they kinda concern me since the best part of the show are how relatable the characters are and I hope moving forward they continue to be front and center instead of this comic book lore shit.
I dont mind in Arrow knowing that some characters are gonna go Vigilante since all actors kinda suck and are playing comic book people, but Cisco, Caitlin and Joe are fantastic characters I want them to grow rather than being collateral damage of a contrived attempt to adapt some comic book arc.

I admit I may have been giving more credit to Wells, or the writers, than was due, but I thought it would be an interesting way to explain what appears to be simple coincidence.
Not to be a dick at all, but the post you're responding to was using spoiler tags for speculation, which made it seem like your use of spoiler tags would also just be speculation; you didn't really indicate that you were using them for actual spoilers for an upcoming episode, so...please try to mark spoilers more specifically, if that makes sense.

But the rest of my post was clearly speculation and untagged. I don't know why they spoiler tagged speculation but I'm not going to, just regular old spoilers.

Understood. I was just surprised to find actual spoilers back there. Spoiler-tagging speculation is pretty typical in threads like this. Either way, I understand where you're coming from and I'll just be more careful myself in highlighting spoilered text.
Speculation, as long as it isn't based on future episode info (comic info seems to go both ways here) really shouldn't need to be spoiler tagged.
So yeah... After my bitching about the bitching about the Rogues episode I think I need to apologize for it since after the last episode it's annoyed me a lot that Barry did just what he should've been able to do to the in the episode before and actually was able to do in episode three in taking a weapon from someone at super speed. It led me to looking up who wrote those episodes and sure enough Geoff Johns and Kai Wu wrote both episodes with Cold and Heat Wave while the episodes where Barry actually did what he should've been able to do in those episodes both had Alison Schapker as a writer along with a second person who was different for each.
My expectations for the writing are low so I've been letting them get away with a lot. It's like they're using the "how fast do we want him to go" logic (or lack thereof) that was originally used for Knight Rider and a lot of other shows (along with comics) in a similar manner back in the day. I really hope they sort this stuff out and I'm still expecting a soft reset in season two.
That's just a problem with The Flash in general though.
Logically, only speedsters should be able to mess with him. In the comics he's pretty damn smart, he's had police training, and currently he's got super speed perception so he can work out variables of shit BEFORE shit has even happened. If you play his powers straight, he's unbeatable. Period.

I prefer when speedsters don't have enhanced durability or strength beyond being able to move extremely fast. That way they struggle with anyone with even a moderate level of invulnerability or super strength. Like Ollie, imo, should be able to knock out Barry in a single punch or get him in a lock if he manages to grab a hold of him.
I hope they change up Pied Piper's outfit in future episodes. The one they cooked up for this first episode just looked really half-baked. Like they had to come up with something in five minutes. He basically looks like a hipster in a hoodie wearing two Power Gloves.
Just to clarify, I wasn't asking speculation to be spoiler tagged. I was just confused when I read the post in question because they were responding to a post with speculation spoiler-tagged and then (in a completely fair use of spoiler tags, to be fair to them) used spoiler tags for actual spoilers. So it just threw me for a bit of a loop. I don't mind if people use spoiler tags for speculation and spoilers, it's just ideal that they might be clear about which it's going to be. Regardless, the onus is on me ultimately to not highlight.

Again the inconsistent speed is always going to be a problem and I just got over it. And Geoff Johns is far more interested in the Rogues as characters and their exploits than caring about the technicalities of speed so don't expect much more from his episodes.

At the moment it seems Barry's strength is still heavily reliant on momentum and speed. He needed a long running start to beat Girder and in close range it seems he only hits as hard as a normal person, just a lot faster. That he can't seem to be incapacitated is annoying though.
I want the speed to be inconsistent. He should take years to master his powers. I'd like an episode where he explains that he can't always go into bullet time mode when he wants to. Otherwise we are going to continue to have enemies that should be disarmed and defeated easily instead be inexplicably bigger threats than they should be.

The Linda Park actress also has professional singing experience. Given she hits on him based on his karaoke performance, I'm hoping we get a duet out of this before her run ends.
Would be wasted potential otherwise. Hell, might as well do a musical episode. They could just rip off Buffy and have one of the demon'smeta-human's power be compelling singing

Probably because she interacts with Iris a lot as well, otherwise I assume Patty Spivot would have been brought in as a love interest. Wally is a big gun I'm assuming they're saving, he's no sidekick.

They've done so many amalgamation and splitting tactics with the TV versions of Comic Book characters.. I honestly don't know if they ever plan on Wally showing up.
