"Stealing the water out of the gym again were you David?"

I'm going to miss these broadcasts next year.
I know. I loved that...and the silence that followed, lol.

Great drive by Hami. I was hoping for a McL 1-2 with Vettel in P3.

Anyone know what this section is all about?

in paris right now so i missed qually, will def watch it later.

the feeling i had last week is growing with todays result. mclaren is getting ever closer. I really think they might have an amazing start to their 2012 year. Red bull better step up soon. What ever happens, 2012 is promising to be a much more exiting year standing wise.
Happens every year with McLaren though, they catch up near the end of a season only to go backwards in the off-season, only to play catch up again. Perpetual case of chasing rainbows.

The RB7 is more suited to Vettel than the RB6. Vettel's also developed as a driver, pretty much eliminating his rashness and improving his racecraft. Webber doesn't seem as comfortable in the RB7 as he did in the RB6. He's no worse than last year though, he's just doesn't have as much potential to develop as a driver. He's already reached his peak and it's 2012/2013 for a WDC or never I'm afraid. The RB8 might be more to his liking though with the blown diffuser ban.
Is that likely? I mean, I'd hate to hate you for getting my hopes up about his chances next year, but a car that's more suited to Mark would be a godsend (for me).

On that note, is it possible that during last year, when Newey was developing the RB6 he may have had Vettel's age/experience/strengths/weaknesses in mind so they could get the most out of the combination? Almost seems that way... he just gels with his car exponentially more than any of the other drivers do with theirs (except for maybe Jenson later on this season).

I'm drunk, tired, and ready to get some sleep.

See you all at 7am GMT guys! I'm not bothering with the pre-show until later.

He was much closer to Vettel before the whole blown diffuser concept came to the fore and became such an integral part of the Red Bull package. With the banning of the blown diffuser in 2012, it stands to reason that should he should be somewhat closer to Vettel.

Almost 1am, time to power sleep for five hours in time for the race today.

Of course tempted to just pull an all-nighter, but it's not worth it.

If it was a title decider, yes. For the Korean GP with only the WCC at stake (dead certainty anyway). I'm totally with you on that.

Makes sense. Is there anywhere it's written (or if it's easy to describe) why Vettel would benefit more?

Younger.

It's really quite funny, if you look at Vettel pre-F1 he was beaten by a number of people, Hamilton & Di Resta included yet here we have Hamilton in his worst racing season ever and Vettel in his best ever.

I'm glad it's a 7am GMT start tomorrow, if it was as early as quali I'd never make it.

Time to get the alarm set and get a few hours kip.

The status quo in F1 never really stands still, things will change. Vettel may have a slump, Hamilton may win another title, Di Resta may end up in a competitive Mercedes and Vettel and Hamilton may end up in the same team (what a glorious battle that would be). I look forward to the future of F1 in spite of the proposed technical regulations.

Oh of course, but I'm just judging by precedent here.

Not that I'm doubting Vettel's skill or talent at all, but we are still yet to see him in a car that is WDC capable but not 100% dominant everywhere (think Vettel & Button swapping places this year).

But I'm sure that time will come.

True, and I agree. It may never be as raw as it was in the 80s/90s (or earlier for that matter, but I'm talking in my own lifetime) but that doesn't mean it's not as exciting... it's just safer.

Come to think of it, the cars themselves have relatively little to do with the excitement of the race, it's more the tracks. Bring back some of the ones from the 60s/70s with today's cars and it would be as good as it was back then.

It's his driving style.

It's explained by Andrew Benson in this article.

Awesome. Reading now :)

Edit: On reading that, I do remember now the talk of the ban earlier in the year and how Mark might benefit. Fuck knows how I forgot.

Who is the commentary team next year? Coulthard and Brundle are awesome, they should do a podcast or something so we can still hear him talk about F1 in some wya.

Hasn't been confirmed, but most people in the know think that Sky and the BBC will share the commentary team of Brundle and Coulthard. The the presenting team will definitely be different though.

The BBC has done so much for F1 over the last three years, I'll be surprised if Sky even equal ITV in terms of production value.

It would be utterly hilarious is Legard was in there somewhere though.

In searching for Webber's latest BBC column, I stumbled across this picture:

Bahahaha.

Anyway, said column.

Can I just say, the reason I love Mark is pretty much right there in that column. No want for sounding eloquent, drops terms like "mega-bucks" and "awesome" when someone a little more self-conscious probably would've said "higher wage" and "well done". Even goes so far as to describe how the undercut pit strategy works, for the complete layman. Good on him.

Hey, has this been posted before? Button team radio (Vodafone ad campaign). Fucking awesome.

Awesome! Shame they don't use their actual voices, though.

Awesome preview as ever, Leunam. Thanks for keeping up with those, they really add to the race weekends for me.

Not a problem, but I think the Japan GP Preview was a bit better. :D
