Better video of the New Jersey GP course.

Some of those people are going to have a stunning view of the cars, from the comfort of their living rooms.
I know they said that no new road will be put in, but I hope they at least decide to repave it. Also as much as I don't like saying it, trim some trees back (not cut them down) so it looks a little more open (and NYC is more visible from the top of the track).

They will definitely have to resurface the road before the race. I like the 'tunnel' sensation of going up through the trees, though I expect that they will have to cut down quite a few for marshall posts etc round that section of the track.

Bernie Ecclestone casts doubt on future of Korean GP

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has cast doubt on the future of the Korean Grand Prix, after ruling out talks to renegotiate its contract.

The promoter of the Yeongam event, Won-Hwa Park, told AUTOSPORT earlier this month that he wanted to seek a cut in the race hosting fee because of the huge losses the event is facing.

Ecclestone has said that such an outcome is unlikely, however, after conceding that he has 'no idea' if the event would remain a part of the calendar.

"There are lots of things in life you can't afford, and you don't have to have them," he told reporters at Buddh, ahead of the Indian Grand Prix. International Circuit. "And it took us long enough to negotiate with them in the first place."

He added: "It was strange. They didn't really get behind it. That was a disappointment because it was a big enough effort to get it on in the first place."

When asked if the matter would be finished if the Koreans were unable to afford the race, Ecclestone said: "Yeah".

I can't imagine how many noise complaints they are going to get on that weekend. Is this really going to be an F1 track?

We just had the second ever race there and now there's this nonsense?

It's a street circuit, so it's not permanent. I don't know how long street circuits take to set up, but it won't hang around the rest of the year.

To the suprise of no one. Bernie /facepalm

I think it's unfair to blame Bernie on this one.

The Koreans made a track that is supposed to become a city and only hosts ONE race event per year, no support races, no GP2, nothing. Not to mention I doubt anyone even entered the track between the two F1 races we've had there.

It was a silly endeavour to begin with.

For comparison, it takes six weeks to set up Monaco, and six weeks to take it down again (iirc).

It really was. Don't they put together committees to determine feasibility for new tracks?

Holy crap, didn't think it took that long.

According to Wikipedia Monaco takes 6 weeks to build and 3 to dismantle.

Watching the press conference there was talk about having stuff up and down within like two weeks. I'm guess that was just the immediate stuff right around those houses at the top part of the track (and that they will be working on putting up stands and walls down in the lower part for several weeks beforehand).

They have very limited time to prepare the track in Monaco, couple of hours during evening and during the night. This is why they need 6 weeks - I think that additional road repavements are included in this time.

Watching that NJ video, how exactly are they gonna deal with the houses that are just next to the race track/road. Surely they're not gonna block these people from accessing their driveways for 4-6 weeks o_O

Must be awesome though to just look out your bedroom window and see F1 cars fly by just a few feet away. Not awesome when you have a newborn baby or trying to catch some sleep in the morning :lol

I'd be more concerned about the vague possibility of a high-speed Formula 1 car catapulting into your roof.

They only block for the last few days. And believe me, they can rent out those front row houses for such high prices, they can go stay at a nice hotel across the river if they want.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/27/bribery-scandal-leaves-f1s-commercial-future-in-jeopardy/

Prosecutors allege that Ecclestone gave an enormous bribe of $44 million to one Gerhard Gribkowsky, who at the time served as chief risk-assessment officer at Bayern LB. $41.4 million of that bribe, in turn, reportedly came from Bayern LB itself, and since the bank is owned by the government, that essentially means that Gribkowsky pocketed all that cash from public coffers. Ecclestone claims the payment was essentially blackmailed out of him as Gribkowsky threatened to falsify evidence of Ecclestone's financial mismanagement.

holy shiat

The roads the track uses will probably only be closed for a day or two at a time around the race I'd imagine. Monaco reopen their roads on the Friday before closing them again for Saturday and at Le Mans the roads are open on Saturday morning before the race and open again a few hours after the race is finished.

I bet most of the people would rather complain than rent the apartments out.

Well, I’ve been to the Montreal GP several times, and I know the noise is quite possibly the loudest thing I’ve ever heard. I can’t imagine all those people living around there just sucking it up for 4 or 5 hours a day for three days straight. This of course does not include the noise caused by setting up the barriers and everything else that goes on setting up a street circuit.

Seriously thinking about going to Singapore race next year. A few of my old facebook friends went this year - going through their pics have made me insanely jealous.

If it's at the same time, I'd be up for going to that too. Could be a fun weekend for F1 GAF.

If you two don't bring a damn NeoGAF flag, then Mark Webber will crash in the first lap.
