The marshalls are excellent though.

Crowd clapping the marshalls.

Yeah. Monaco has the best marshall crew of any track. I'm always amazed by how efficiently they "fix" the crashes.

Monocoque is still in one piece, so nothing penetrated the cockpit as it seems.

The cockpit is alright.

One thing that has bothered me last year when there were crashes, anybody know why the wheels aren't attached to the car anymore ?
I remember a few years back that the wheels were attached with cables and would stay that way even in big crashes.

Glad to hear he's ok !

Well thank goodness that he is talking but of course we don't know the full extent of his injuries. Could've been a lot lot worse.

They're designed to break apart to disperse the energy and reduce the chance of it piercing the cockpit iirc.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think it's because there has been one or more accidents were the tethered wheels would smash back into the driver's cockpit/face. Atleast that's the explanation I have in my head for some reason.

BBC says Perez is conscious and talking.

Thank god for that. If he is not fit to race tomorrow (which I doubt), can they bring in a replacement or will it just be Kobayashi racing for Sauber?

They still are as far as I know, they just aren't infallible.

Tires are still attached. In fact, the number of wheel tethers – the load-bearing cables connecting the wheel hubs to the bodywork – was doubled for 2011.

In response to several stray wheels over the course of the 2010 season, teams must now place a second tether on every wheel to improve safety. The two tethers must be contained in separate suspension members.

It appears the wheels are still attached to the car but the right front tyre has come away from the rim. The tethers have done their job.

Is it the extra speed from KERS/DRS or something? 2 cars in the same weekend with the same accident.

It's more than likely the corner, it's got quite the bump. The DRS is banned in the tunnel anyway.

Rosberg would have hit it head on also, at least perez was side way to spread disperse the impact =/

I don't even want to think about it :L

Yeah, it happened before but the odds of it happening just seem bigger this year.

Ok, thanks for the answer. :)
It's weird, I could swear that last year whenever there was a crash, the wheels would go wild no matter the speed at which the crash occurred.

Surely the other teams must be having second thoughts about their ride heights now.

Vettel will definitely be on pole now, so barring a bad pit stop he'll most likely win this

Yeah but usually most of the crashes had the first point of impact being the wheel, if I remember rightly.

I thought Alonso's 1:14.433 in fp3 was good, but Vettel's time is really impressive. No way Alonso will get anywhere near the podium tomorrow.
