It was his call to not go out - too risky to wait in Monaco, he should know that.

It's very easy to say that in hindsight. If everyone really thought that way then there would have been 10 cars doing hot laps at the same time.

Guaranteed if Ferrari were competitive and another team released their driver into the path of Alonso on a hot lap the FIA would fine the fuck out of them.

Massa and Alonso have gained one grid place from it and they should be penalised.
Into the path? Were you watching the same qualy I was? Ham was not held up by him at all until maybe Casino, and then he got out of his way.

He wasn't released into his path though, there was a decent enough gap. Sure Hamilton may have been distracted, but Massa and Ferrari did nothing wrong.

Hamilton's biggest mistake was sitting at the end of the pit lane for 2 minutes at the end.

So we do not need to observe RBR form in free practices. They were like half a second in front of Mclaren and almost whole second in front of Ferrari during Q3

They are always sandbagging :D Mclaren tried to follow the suit here.

Also, guys, The Old One starts 5th, and his starts this year are very good.

Yeah, it's just a coincidence that Ferarri released Massa into the path of Hamilton on his hot lap. FIA won't do anything about it.
It's part of the strategy, so calm the fuck down. Not everyone did a fast lap in the last two minutes. Go figure.

It really is among the very best sports broadcasts I've ever seen.

Agreed. The coverage is superb. Every race just gets better and the chemistry between Brundle and Coulthard is great. So much better than ITV.

The lap would have been yellow'd anyway because of Perez's crash, I'm sure they were on the same lap (Perez & Hamilton).

No that was Hamilton's second hot lap.

Regardless, it's also Hamilton's fault for getting distracted too, he probably would have gone quicker than seventh even with the hold up.

The worst possible sporting fan combination you could have right now:

Arsenal fan, McLaren fan & England fan.

Actually, congratulations is due for Maldonado and Williams, in the top ten again. Strange to see them in front of the Renaults in qualifying already given where they were before.

This is Vettel's first pole at Monaco right? Congrats to him.

Feel so bad for Perez. I hope he's alright. Was scary for a few minutes when nothing was happening and people were holding blankets above his car. :(

Renault lost all of their form and there are reports of financial problems

Also, Williams would do much better if they fired Rubens before this season and give Hulk a seat

What did everyone expect Massa to do?

He pulled to the side as soon as he saw the blue flag.

I'm of the opinion that Massa did nothing wrong but Ferrari can suck a fat one. They should have been on the radio telling Felipe to leave the pit lane slowly so that Hamilton could go through, any other team would have done that.

And risk Alonso's position in the second row? lol, no.

Well, with the luck LH has had recently, I'm expecting a DNF this race. Oh well, as long as he wins it in Canada (I will be attending the GP).

According to Sauber, Perez has said that he wants to race tomorrow but it will be up to the doctors to decide wether he's fit enough. I have no idea how they would get the car ready again by tomorrow or do they have a backup?

They will run him in the spare car if he his allowed to race and take the grid penalty.

Thought I doubt he will race if he has concussion, which is a big blow for Sauber but Kobayashi should score a few points.

Oh, how I did lol.

Obviously in this thread late, but gotta chime in and say how fucking awesome the F1 app for iPhone is. While out having a beer or two (and a boogie alongside some fine-arse chicas) I get push notifications of not only times for practice and quali, but two or three updates on Perez when the incident happened.

Bravo.

There is no spare car if I'm not mistaken.

You are correct, I must have thought I was still living in 2007 when I wrote that.

I would then assume Sauber get to work on the car and take the relevant grid penalties.

It was an amazing quali lap from Vettel thou, didn't think Red Bull could get pole here, but that lap was just super smooth and flowing.

Don't have a tv?

Last year I began switching to the BBC when a commercial break was on RTL7. This season, I find myself watching the entire race on the beeb. Today I also found out that they get breaking news much more quickly. While commentator Olaf Mol was still guessing about the state of Perez, on the BBC it was already known he was alright.

I'd be surprised if Hamilton even finishes tomorrows race with the horrendous luck he's had today, especially now with him being dropped to ninth.
He will probably switch to different strategy now and pray for SC or four.
The Old One is one to watch tomorrow.

Some Mclaren fans are crying due to Hamilton bad luck, but hey, there is Button on P2. I just hope that he jumps Vettel, otherwise RBR will drive to the sunset...

Button on P2 is great, don't get me wrong. But in terms of the championship, it would be better for Hamilton to be there instead. Having said that, if Vettel retires (which wont happen) and Button wins, then it evens out.

IF Lewis survives first corner and maybe gain place or two, then everything is possible. Safety car and all cars will be together.

Damn, the McLaren team really cocked up the strategy for Hamilton.

I do think there is a fundamental difference between Button and Hamilton though. Button seems more confident in choosing his own strategy where as Hamilton tends to leave it up to the team.

And ATM McLaren are making strategic mistakes..........
