BBC faced with 700 complaints.

I could understand the complaints if we had a Canadian grand prix every day and there was a dearth of antiques programs in the UK, but this clearly isn't the case. In fact, there's so many variations of antiques programs on the BBC alone throughout the week that I find it amazing that it's even sustainable.

Either way, I thought the BBC handled the event as well as could be expected considering the circumstances and the quality of the program itself was exemplary. They should be applauded, rather than derided.

It doesn't suck to be Bernie's daughter...

Petra Ecclestone is the daughter of Bernard Charles Ecclestone, better known to the motorsports world as Bernie. Mr. Ecclestone is the president and CEO of Formula One Management, and his reported net worth is around $1.5 billion. Petra must get to play with a fair amount of that cash, because she just bought the most expensive house in the United States.

Originally listed at $150 million, the Holmby Hills mansion is a 57,000-square-foot property that includes a bowling alley, salon and 100-car garage. It was built by the late TV Producer Aaron Spelling, and his wife has since downsized to a 15,500-square-foot condo.

The home has been listed since 2009, and the asking price stayed at $150M despite the economic downturn. That makes sense, seeing as most people who can afford the property most likely managed to "stay afloat" during these rough times. Petra is one of those people, and it's been reported that her first offer was $75 million. The actual sale price hasn't been disclosed yet, but the deal is in escrow.

The large estate will serve as Petra Ecclestone's Los Angeles home base. She also owns a six-story London home, which cost $90.9 million. It would seem that F1 is a good business to be involved in.

Where's the LOL smiley when you need it.
That can't be that many though for the BBC, can it?

I saw this earlier today. According to some of the comments (haven't checked myself) there is at least one other house valued more than hers in that neighborhood.

Bernie backs Hamilton.
"People have been wrong to rubbish Lewis," Ecclestone told The Independent. "What we want is people racing, and all the people who watch it want that.

"If you analyse what's been happening and how other drivers have been performing, Lewis shows up very well, and so do Sebastian [Vettel] and Jenson [Button]. So let him race. That's what people like him do.

Antiques Roadshow fans having nothing better to do than complain about something? Never!

But, given that Schumacher was doing great, I think they'll find that they were in fact *watching* an Antique's Road Show.

I watched the BBC broadcast last night up to the point of the restart while I was doing some work. All the BBC team including Ted and Lee did a really good job of wasting time. That was definitely one of the better race buildups and the feature with Vettel/Lee and DC/Schumi were great.

The production value of the broadcasts never disappoints.

FIA Finalizes British GP Diffuser Ban

Formula 1's ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers will definitely come into force at the British Grand Prix, AUTOSPORT can reveal, after the details were finalised by technical chiefs and the FIA on Thursday.

Although no official statement has been made about the outcome of the meeting, sources have revealed to AUTOSPORT that the FIA saw no reason to postpone its intended ban any further than Silverstone, having delayed its original start date of the Spanish Grand Prix because of what it feared would be 'unintended consequences' for teams.

I cant wait for the start of F1 race on Silverstone. New pit complex is put on perfect place. Full throttle on 1st corner, it will be magnificent.

I'm actually bummed that the first corner won't be Copse any longer. :(

Fuck, I had seen the beautiful wing but I always assumed that it replaced the previous pits. Day ruined... :(
I wasn't a big fan, to say the least, of the post-2010 layout but this further ruins what was once one of the greatest track... :-/

It's a shame they couldn't incorporate Bridge Corner into the new layout. I suppose they could have gone full Tilke on the circuit so I shouldn't complain too much.

Is it possible that Tilke was ahead of the curve? Did he know that an overtake system was going to be introduced in some form?

Because all his tracks feature long straights, that can really take advantage of these systems.

No. He couldn't have anticipated the DRS. He was more reliant on high speeds going into really slow corners for overtaking.

It's very good track, the layout is slightly reminiscent of the Nordschleife.
I've never watched a real race at that track (though I have driven it in rFactor) and I think it would need much more elevation change for it to be like the Nordschleife.

Argentina, you already have a damn good track. Or two. Just use those.

Also, I would hate to see Autodromo Hermanos Rodriuguez mutilated, though I could understand them changing it up a bit. They did that for Champ Car a while back (basically made it into a hairpin by shortcutting it).

drs was brought in because of his shit tracks

He sorta understands the concept of long straights + tight corners = overtaking, but usually fucks it up with either a long section of medium speed corners to gap out the cars or a kink right before the braking zone to complicate the approach.

I am not a fan of Tilkes tracks, but in his defence, it should not be up to the track to provide good racing. Certainly, bad tracks have existed in F1 for decades (Hungaroring) and there have still been interesting races at those tracks.

It is the reliance on aerodynamics that causes track design to be so important. I understand why it has come about, but I think there needs to be a radical solution. Like limiting the total amount of downforce, or something.

If the cars could only develop say 150kg of downforce at x speed, designers would focus on creating that while minimising drag, which would aid in 2 ways. There would be less turbulence for the following car, and even with turbulent air there would be less reduction in grip because there was already less downforce.

I still have to see it, but I'm not into torrents. Is there a way to stream the BBC recording?

Best thing about the off-throttle diffuser ban is that Sauber haven't had it from the start and so won't lose any performance advantage while the other teams that do have it, should. In theory.

Meaning, KOBAYASHHHUEEEEEE should hopefully be able to get stuck into the cars ahead more often.
