They'd better make some hardcore changes to the Valencia track if they want to make it interesting. I'm talking ramps, power-ups and pitfalls here.

F1Fanatic suggested changes, looks awesome.

I read that as a summary of Vettel and not Red Bull. Silly me.
At first I thought it was a joke which just shows how poor Webber's season, mostly due to his performance in qualifying, has been so far.

The funny thing is, Webber's having the best season of his career.

MRL flexi wing?

Look at the gap between the silver and black upright sections in the centre of the wing.

Static comparison shots:

Low speed

High speed

Seems to pivot around the front edge at high speed.

It's funny how all these supposed flexi wing comparison shots are always one shot of the car pretty much at the speed trap and the other is the car braking for a turn. All wings will flex during those points.

I just noticed Dantas' avatar is Senna with the ridiculous trophy from Donnington '93. How long have you had that avatar? lol

What other points should be used to compare then?

There will be a very small amount of natural flex from the downforce, but in this case the whole wing assembly appears to pivot down around the front edge of the pylons when the car is at high speed.

Yeah, not everyone went overboard obviously, but in that same race

No was agreeing with you, the F2008 has most of it's engine cover missing. It was the oddest Ferrari of the last decade, everyone went extra crazy in Singapore that year.

Regulation changes I have no problem with, the rules need to be refreshed consistently to keep the sport competitive and I don't think it is impressive having fast lap times with 'loose' regulations. The RB7 will be remembered for a long time because it has dominated and delivered good lap times(2 seconds down on 2002) at a time when it is more difficult to extract extra performance (I know the Pirelli tyres help but it is still an impressive effort by the Red Bull team).

The winglets were awful and the cars looked disgusting, I was very glad to see them banned.

What Ferrari achieved in 2002 is far more impressive, same in 2004, for one reason: Testing.

Testing was virtually unlimited. This made keeping advantages extremely hard in years pre-2009. Brawn would likely have been fully caught up and passed by mid season in 2009 had testing been normal.

The others could try many different designs and accurately verify the results on track immediately. The current rules allow teams to hold advantages for longer. Testing is extremely limited, meaning the development race is effectively handicapped. You find something, you are likely to have a long time to exploit it before everyone else catches up.

Oh ok, I thought you were trying to show that there were some exceptions. That F2008 looks somewhat "civil" compared to other late 2008 cars.
lol.gif

Edit : Thinking about it, BMW already had some crazy aero ideas before 2008. Never forget :

LOL, I usualy hate those trophys with a company logo (Hello Santander!), but hey, it's the ol' good Sonic in the hands of our ol' good Senna! Can anything be more LEGEN-wait for it-DARY than that?

I use it since I started posting here in GAF. Although my account dates from 2007 (I guess), I just started posting here very recently. Something like a month.

Ugh, I have to ask. Why has Wossy done commentary over a bunch of these old F1 videos? I can't seem to find the reason for it.

On the topic of Sega, does anyone have a good shot of the Sonic livery? It seems to be hard to find pics for it.

The Renaults have looked like crap since they dropped the blue and yellow color scheme. The 05 Renault was a gorgeous car.

Completely agree. It's why I downloaded that skin in F1 2010 and never went back.

We'll know in Silverstone. If Ferrari International Assistance have done enough to pull back Red Bull then it could be very much game on.

People forget how supremely dominant the F2002 was in Schumacher's hands. He did not finish lower than 2nd position in the whole of the 2002 season. Jesus christ. It was the fastest car by far in full race trim in all but one of the races it competed in (Brazil being the exception on it's debut, MS still won). Ferrari scored more points than the entire field COMBINED. So when thinking about Vettel dominating....Red Bull haven't got jack shit on that sort of performance.

I like to remember the 1988 season instead of this one, for obvious reasons. McLaren won 15 out of 16, drivers could push like crazy because only the best results counted, and Senna won his first championship that year.

I think it was just as dominant as the 2002 season for Ferrari.

Update from Scarbs RE:MRL flexi wing:

UPDATE: While I am still awaiting a response from McLaren, I have had a direct reply from Charlie Whiting, FIA Formula One Race Director, to my questions. He responds “The slight anomaly you refer to has been investigated and we have told the team improvements need to be made”. I also asked if this area is subject to any specific deflection tests or construction of the wing\pylon interface “there is no stated permissible deflection of the parts you’re referring to, we do of course have a blanket restriction on any bodywork moving but, in some cases, we define limits given that no bodywork can be designed infinitely rigid”. So it seems any movement there should not be evident at the British GP.

FIA have confirmed 1.6L V6 engines for 2014 plus ERS, no further details yet.

I sure hope Mclaren's performance won't diminish now that this change has been mandated.

And if it was intentional, it seems really odd that they would position a camera such that the loop hole could easily be seen.

For those curious, the Austin City Council just endorsed the deal to allow them to build the track here. Lots and lots of concessions were requested of F1 in terms of environmental standards was the final sticking point and they agreed to meet them. The state still has to confirm they'll be eligible for some additional money but it's a given at this point.

I am pretty excited, would love to go to the race one day.

First tragedy, then farce.

Comptroller already verified that the race will get the 24 million...

and yet two idiots still voted against the race..

really damned excited.. so strange that this sport that I've been a fan of since I was 8 is going to build a track in the strange back country of SE Travis/NE Hays county that I was born in back when the population of that area was about 600 people.

He did the commentary for Senna Fights Back ('93 F1 season review). He did a good job too, but he's no Clive James :bow

Yeah, Tovo just voted against waiving some fees for a new hotel here too. I guess she probably campaigned on not giving handouts to businesses or something but at this point F1 has met everything requested of them and more.. the city won't even have to pony up any cash! Stupid.

Didn't know you were a fan -- congrats! Must be a really amazing feeling to know it'll be so close.

Don't wait until next week. I booked hotel rooms a few days ago and they're getting really hard to find already. Also, most of the hotels know what's up and have jacked their rates. All the airport hotels (closest to the track and still reasonable for downtown) are full up and downtown is super expensive (like $700 a night and up for the ones I looked at). We ended up booking a place in SW Austin.

Today's news just means that more people will be booking right now.

The race date could still change though; if you're going you'd better be monitoring Twitter or something when the FIA meet to finalize the calendar, and call your hotel the SECOND the news hits.
