The Formula 1 2014 Season |OT2| Louder Than Formula E

The car looks good. I'm not a fan of the long nose, but the livery makes it work better than on the McLaren.

Also, what did Cooper say about the Sauber nose again?

"The long nose is easier to pass the crash test, one of the compromises of their restricted resources"

Oh, right. Ferrari is doomed!

Why does the McLaren/ferrari have a long nose when everyone else is going short unless they are skint.

Will be interesting to see whether Merc swap to the long style or Mclaren/fer swap to the short style later on.

I can't believe that both the very long and the very short options are equally as good for getting air under the car.

The McLaren and Ferrari option is hideous.

The Ferrari looks bulky at the coke bottle area

ElTorro

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Looks better from the front, but damn, that's a long tongue.

And yes, it looks bulky around the engine compared to the McLaren.

Looks like Ferrari have copied the Mercedes front lower arms from last year.

Also the top view of the year end isn't showing the undercut.

Sauber press release saying Ferrari PU needs more cooling that last year
The sidepods of the new Sauber C34, however, are now slimmer than those of the Sauber C33, despite higher cooling requirements from the new power unit.

“So when you decide what to work on you have to pick quite carefully the things that you think are going to bring the maximum amount of return for your effort. And push-rod, poll-rod on the front, it has pros and cons either side.

“Pull-rod is probably harder to get light and stiff but it’s probably a bit easier to get an aerodynamic performance from it. So it’s swings and roundabouts. It was an area of the car that was something that wasn’t felt to be a problem on last year’s car and therefore not an area that really merited investment of effort in this time around on the SF-15T.”

B-b-b-b-but Kimi said he wasn't comfortable with front end last year and all his psychofans blamed pull rod suspension, which was of course a demand of evil Alonso. Ferrari got rid of Alonso and Kimi's buddy Allison was meant to bring push rod back, like on all other cars. But no, it stays for another year :(

I just read that Force India also had a Sirotkin related sponsoring deal that fell through and resulted in their absence at Jerez.

If that's true I find it really weird that they apparently didn't learn from what happened at Sauber...

I doubt they had much choice in the matter. Money isn't exactly falling from trees at the moment.

The most telling thing from these launches is the distinct lack of sponsorship across the board. Even Ferrari has fewer sponsors than I remember.

I'm watching the Mercedes Road to 2015 documentary on the UBS site and Sterling Moss raced in a polo helmet. Mother of fucking god!!!!

Ha. Find the documentary called Grand Prix the Killer Years. Also find the documentary called Madness on wheels, Rallying craziest years.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably watch them this weekend. It's a morbid history, but I do find it quite interesting. I've seen a couple of documentaries on it. So many fucked up needless deaths. Jackie Stewart is a safety nut for a reason.

Things were so bad that he used to tape a spanner to his steering wheel so that he could get himself out of the car because nobody else would get there in time.

I think he said he got launched from a car into some hay or something and had to be rescued by nuns. I've probably got a detail wrong somewhere with that, it's been a bit since I've heard the story. Yeah racing was a massacre back then. It makes a lot of sense why he had the tone and demeanor he had when he interviewed Senna about his race craft.
Jacques at BAR part deux.
All Vettel needs to do now is release an album and go bald...like really bald.

The most amazing part from that documentary (I think it was from the Killer Years) was Stirling Moss' 2 steering wheels he still had from his biggest crashes:

That's from the impact of his head, for goodness sake.

Thanks Bernie you greedy goblin!

I understand Hockenheim wanting FOM to carry part of some potential loss, when they fill in a year they didn't plan a race.

Kimi could dominate the season and win both titles and we'd all still assume he's only doing it for the money :p
