The Getaway Black Monday - Gamespot Review

"Like its predecessor, The Getaway: Black Monday is a "love it or hate it" kind of game, though it definitely leans a little more toward the "hate it" side of the scale. The Getaway got away with a lot of what it did mainly because it tried to do something fairly original, whereas with the sequel, there aren't many new elements, and what is new isn't exceptionally meaningful in the grand scheme of the game. Black Monday should be commended for crafting another unique crime story with plenty of memorable, well-acted characters, but unfortunately it fails to create gameplay of equal caliber. In the end, there are just too many design flaws and annoying little glitches in Black Monday to make it a recommendable play."

Judging from the demo I played, GS is being quite generous. :P

My number one complaint - the camera and enemy targeting still hasn't been fixed. Bah.

i keep hearing from people who played it that its horrible, even going back to e3 impressions, but is it actually WORSE than the first one? Cause if its just 'more of the same' it should be good for a rental for me.

I actually like the first game a good deal, but didn't like the demo of Black Monday I played. I'd say they made it worse, but that's based on very little of the game.

Based on my E3 and demo impressions, it's not as good as first. I'll give it a rent after KOTOR 2....but as a fan of the first Getaway, I'm somewhat disappointed.

Black Monday has done nothing near the original. No real following and bad reviews killed any hype it had.

IIRC, it was just the UK who lapped up the original. 933,000+ sales to date in the U-S of A.

"Here's the problem with Black Monday: while it offers some new, it doesn't offer enough. Furthermore, it doesn't fix many of the serious issues that plagued the first title. A map complete with objective markers is a big help, as are the GPS driven turn signal indicators, but the game is just as stiff, clumsy, and unworkable as it's ever been.."

Well, I see a broader game market has convinced most reviewers not to buy into the poor design this time. Not that many did the first time though, I think.
