You can call it a lot of things, but I don't think "lazy cash-in" is one of them. It was built by one dude over years.

Yup, that's pretty much the level of humour I find in this. The fact that it legitimately passes as "clever" to people in shows like Family Guy and Big Bang Theory makes me sad. What happened to actual jokes with situational and dramatic irony?

Man, now I'm all melancholy :(

Uh people find different things funny like they always have since the beginning of time?
 
Didn't watch the entire quick look, but the stuff like "hey remember metal gear?! ooh, ooh, Contra???" etc worked for me in the sense that it's immediately clear what's up. I know contra and I know metal gear and the goals and rules associated with them - humor would likely come from subverting those rules and goals (or jokes like feel asleep, but those are bad so fuck that).
 
The exhibition option is on the main screen right behind the mini menu. It's fucking huge.

The Celeb team playing is surreal. They're holding their own against the Bulls. And Bow Wow must be the kid version. He's so tiny.
 
I love the NBA but never play the games, but that animation looked pretty great compared to the other games I've seen. Yes, the menu system was atrocious.

As someone who's studying marketing, I take offence to it purely because there is surely a better way of getting that data than this. Hell, EA manages it.

Well, I'm as much of an expert on these games as Jeff and Vinny are but I'm pretty sure it didn't throw all this bullshit at them when they were QLing NHL, NFL, NCAA etc etc, no? Maybe it asks you for your Origin log-in or something. I dunno.

Anyway, these games seriously need a skip button. Or just ask for a friggin' email address and leave it at that.

I believe EA's is pretty similar the first time you do it, minus maybe the age gate.

But at this point almost anyone who plays a lot of games already has an EA/Origin account, so you don't notice it anymore. Once you do it one time on XBL/PSN, it ties it to your account so you don't even have to put in an email after that.

I think throwing that stuff up there and forcing you to fill it in before you even reach the main menu is ludicrous, and is a horrible first impression. I have no problem with them bringing it up when, say, you select the Online option from the main menu, but before even the intro cutscene? Eff. That.

I know not all games can be Sonic the Hedgehog but jesus

Yea, it's pretty terrible. It was equally dumb when EA did it the first time, but at least with EA you could take care of that stuff on your PC once and forget about it, and they've also done interesting stuff with tying different platforms to one account.

If 2K is going to go down this route they should have followed EA and have you create a 2K account. Instead you've got these seemingly game-specific ones along with stuff like the Rockstar Social Club.
 
That was a great quick look. Loved the very end of the game.

I'm not really one to judge given that I know nooooooothing about basketball, but the commentary seems really good. Lots of personality. I assume they just sit the dudes down in fact of the devs playing the game and record them doing their thing, in between all your necessary player/team call-outs.

It's actually live. They assign you your personal commentator when you create that 2K account.
 
Wow, 2k13 might have the worst soundtrack yet. That's a real shame, sports games are usually good about having a good mix of major stuff and lesser known stuff
 
I played a bit of RCR and it's fine. It plays well, which is the most important thing. So far the only really, really lame reference I've seen is the Inception one. Well, the Mega Man 2 one kind of sucked too since they even admitted during that scene it was overdone.

Also, some of its soundtrack is by virt, so that's pretty cool too.
 
Probably because I'm used to it as I have been playing since 2K6, but I never realized how bad the menus seem to new players. I think there the best menu's in any sports game, as you always know that you can flick the R-stick and get to the main menu no matter how far you are. But yeah, the 2K ID system is pretty broken. I did it once for NBA 2k10? and its never popped up since, but i remember the system taking forever to get through.

Just got to that point. Vinny cutting straight through the bullshit.

Can't say I was impressed either. Pointless exercises for motion control's sake, bad/broken selection and aiming controls (with issues in both hand and voice - in an almost ideal environment, no less) and an entire recurring segment dedicated to Imagine Horsez with an AAA coat of paint.

I have no problem with them having a Twitter or Facebook page, I have a problem with solicitation in the main menu screen of my fucking video game.

But the casual market they're aiming for has no problem with that either, probably.
