The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Yeah IBO is kinda falling flat here. Not entirely obviously but I think its missing a lot of pizzazz. It was nice to not get another laser spam fest but its definitely missing that something. Tons of mechs, tons of characters, and a whole lot of not all that much actually happening.

Spent way to long showing the obvious antagonists not antagonizing too.

Anyway, finally got around to checking out a hole in the wall model shop... place is a effing gold mine guys. Tons of rare kits in there but the place is just wall to wall models and gunpla. Its super hard to even see everything they have. Hell even the counter to check out was hard to see. MG Shenlong instantly caught my eye. Need to go back after I finish my current kits and rummage more.

Oh god...

I'm sad to hear that IBO isn't doing very well. IBO is one of the best Gundam shows in recent years if not all time. It has a great cast of characters that all stand out in their own ways, the lack of beam weaponry is a great change of pace and makes the fights have a sense of weight, and I love that IBO isn't afraid to have multiple episodes in a row without a battle. IBO feels like the closest thing to a mainline 08th MS team.

I forget, has there been confirmation of a second season of IBO yet?

lol wut O_0. the later non mech episodes is what made the series worse.

I'm not saying it is all good. The plotline on Dort wasn't very good, but there were other point earlier on where they took a step back from the action and just focused on character development. The episode where Kudelia starts teaching the kids and Mikazuki how to write, interacting with Naze and his group, etc. We had a good three episode period where a mobile suit didn't launch once and that is great. One of the biggest problems a lot of Gundam shows have is the need to have a MS battle in every episode. It gets so bad that a lot of the fights don't even mean anything. They are just an excuse to reuse animation and show some explosions. Every battle in IBO so far has had a purpose or was impactful to the characters.

IBO excels at the small scale. Its biggest weaknesses are the overall plot taking too long to manifest and the larger politics being dull.

It has been confirmed to have a second season.

Excellent. Hopefully they can at least keep up the current quality of the show and hopefully get better overall.

I've been working on my first Master Grade kit, the RX-78-2 ver 3.0. I'm really enjoying it so far. The inner frame and the many small panels make me feel like I'm actually constructing a mech. I might have to stick to MG and RG from now on. Does anyone have experience with the LED lights? I'm considering ordering one to try out in this kit.

I own several LED kits and sets. They can be a cute gimick, but often cone at the price of stability or having hollow chests because the neck and upper torso will disconnect.

You can get the lights pretty cheap thes days so if you really dig it, I can be worth it for a great look.

Do you know if all the LEDs work in all models that can use them? Most of the yellow LEDs I'm finding that specifically mention the RX-78-2 are P-Bandai exclusive and are pretty expensive. On ebay I'm finding some that are apparently for the Qant Raiser. This one is cheaper, but I want to be 100% that it will work in my kit.

They are the same regardless of kit in the MG line.

Yellows sadly didnt get a big run, but you can use the Green/Red/Yellow interchangably.

It is just personal preference, but you should consider doing panel wash for lining using those http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M58FWVC/?tag=neogaf0e-20

You can use Zippo lighter fluid for clean up http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BIOFMHW/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It is pretty simple, just look up a few video on panel washing.
Tiny room, not looking to inhale any noxious stuff, not even trying.
yeah those work, in addition i would also get this brush type (quicker to use and easier imo)

gm21

So it's easier to just use these?

much quicker and fool proof, the basic set of the 3 pack is good but it took me a while to apply evenly. it's easy to use once you get the hang of it, not as straight forward but i would get a set.

the brush type you just apply to an area and wipe of excess not much fuss.

Oh ok, doesn't seem too bad then. You panel line as you're building it or afterwards?

Panel lining is pretty simple. I use the markers you linked and find them very easy. I panel line as I'm building. Normally I panel line before assembly. I cut out the piece, sand down the nubs, then panel line. I then attach the piece and do any additional panel lining if needed.

Sounds easy enough, just have no urge to sand. Maybe later on I'll mess around with that, but not for my first kit. I think I literally just want to see if I can build it first.

Only by people that ran with that soundtrack listing (GG, the Gundam Wiki, ect.). People forget G-Reco had an S1 and S2 soundtrack but how many seasons was it?

There's no official confirmation from Bandai or Sunrise.

Hopefully we get a second season. I don't feel like the show can ramp up to a satisfying conclusion in just 5 more episodes. To be honest I wouldn't mind 26 episode Gundam series. Sometimes there is just a whole lot of nothing in a 50 episode show.

that basic tamiya will have all the things you need. (it includes a file at least to help sand nubs a bit)

i paneled my first kit after fully building it and the second, while building: the reason
for RG's: the decals are so tiny and extremely easy to lose, tear, and mess up while applying...that you want to do hard to reach places before fully assembled as it become almost impossible to reach some place after build. some decals are meant to go over panel lined areas, so i just panel line first now for the sake of applying decals as i build

prob best is to build each section then panel line, build legs then panel line, torso then panel line, etc.

Shit. RG definitely isn't for my noob ass yet. Holy shit that sounds tedious.

it is.. just the decals though... which is a big part of the RG kits look and lineup. Bandai has some hg kit parts repackaged w/ RG stickers to go along w/ RG suits such as gn arms, i.s.w.p. and meteor. it's the exact hg kits reprinted with new RG decals. no point of getting those parts if you're not using the decals, just buy the hg version of theparts and save money! (secret i learned is to buy the hg parts and get rg decals on ebay)

the kit itself is not too bad so plp skip decals for the sake of their enjoyment and time focused on building, there's a few modelers that do RG decal w/ ease regularly. i think those guys i try to chase and fit it but i'm too slow to keep up.

Keep in mind that most decals are optional. There are typically only a few required stickers.

you're not true RG baller unless you go full on. heheh

Yes those are great! I used the gray one on my latest lit with great success.
I'm getting the ones David linked. I'm pretty sure they both do the same job.

I should probably just stop at MG. Fuck the PG price and suit selection. Only PG suit I even like is the Zeta.

Sweet Goddess above lol.

The Strike Rouge is the only time I will be a true RG baller.

My hands cramp to much with the small decals and my OCD goes crazy if they are not perfect.

How do you know if the decals are supposed to be water slides or not? None of the kits I've built have used them so I don't know how to differentiate.

Yeah and that doesn't break from the fact that from the number of core fans that do regularly watch, it isn't really negatively received at all. Like every single week for an episode, g_tekketsu trends for hours during the airing of the show with tons and tons of reactions, posts, fan art, jokes.

Pretty much. I think it's been pretty well received by people watching it but the question is "Are people watching it?"That's probably the bigger problem and can probably be attributed to GBF Try and G-Reco wearing down folks.

Right, that central focus on the Tekkadan and their interactions are the strongest element in the series but the reaction to the other stuff in the show puzzles me.

haha, i'm just kidding about being RG baller! skip em =)
i'm the same way, very ocd if they're not on straight. i asked alot of questions on a gunpla forum of how to apply rg decals and found a really good technique.

How do you know if the decals are supposed to be water slides or not? None of the kits I've built have used them so I don't know how to differentiate.
all the hg/mg/rg that i used so far used stickers. modelers prefer water transfers because they blend in better.

I'm getting the ones David linked. I'm pretty sure they both do the same job.

i would get the 3 pack you linked as well, or at least brown

not set in stone but almost set it stone: general matching

grey marker goes well for white parts
black market goes well for darker parts like grey and blue
brown matches well on yellow and red (but i use black to panel lines on red at times so it's just preference)

anyways, it might be good to grab them if you have the budget or get them next time in the future.

Chrome stickers - Chrome backing
Clear stickers - Green backing
Dry transfers - Non-colored, clear backing
Water transfers - Blue backing

I was going to get that 3 pack later actually even though it looks like I'll have redundant colors. Though it seems like both types don't have the same look. Did anybody watch any vids before jumping into this? It's all new and scary to me.

Yeah, I've been satisfied with the politics at large. The show had some pacing issues I think early on and there's some stuff I could nitpick but for the most part I've been satisfied.

Sad to hear that it's not getting high viewership. This is a fun show.

yeah, i watched a short video it's pretty easy watch like 9 mins (i just book mark it and go back to it when in doubt)

don't worry about washing the parts, and equipment recommendation, skip that part for now.

I can agree with you, the dort arc just turned me off the series. I am trying to get back into now

I saw that video and god damn that's a lot of effort, I'm building this thing in my bed, I can't top coat where I sleep, would probably never wake up.

I don't recommend a bed. Some people do it on tables, I do all my work on the floor. You quickly accumulate an obscene amounts of plastic bits wherever you're cutting and cleaning. I don't think most would want to sleep in that.

I didn't listen to the video (I saw a toothbrush), but some cleaning on your parts is good, if you're painting or just top coating. I just do simple rinses though or let the pieces sit in soapy water at most, and that's enough to get any oil or grease from my hands off them.

I was actually just planning on doing the shaving over the box and hoping that collects everything.

I do mine over a little work table/bed.

I would not recommend doing it on the floor do to the pieces being small but do you.
I was most likely going to be standing over a box with the box on my bed. I honestly don't want my parents seeing me building this thing in the kitchen, unless I get some decent time by myself on a Saturday where I can take it into the kitchen.

don't worry about the weathering or clear coat. just FF to building, panel line and decal to get an idea of what to do.

i'll link a few more vids when you get your kit since you'll have questions once you have it in hand =) but that's pretty much it =)

I actually have my kit in the box in my closet, just need to buy the materials to build the damn thing.

I build mine over the kitchen table due to the carpet monster. I also put all my nubs in a small tupperware container, mainly because I find it looks neat after a few kits.

Part washing is mainly for getting rid of the grime that comes from the production line so that paint adheres better. Most people won't have a need to do it, especially if you're not painting, so don't worry about it.

RGs are mostly fine outside of a couple of problematic kits. That said, they're not for beginners, and I found the novelty of MG/PG features at 1/144 scale sort of wore off. If you want the best of the best of the line, grab the Mk. II Gundams.

If you really want to have a bad time, give the old PG Evangelion Unit 01 a look.

I bought the gunpla shit. I'll have the markers before I have the tool set, fuck my life lol. Evangelion Unit 1 is just destined to make people go insane isn't it?
