Rewatched a couple Gundam Build Fighters Try episodes today.

Why the hell aren't we getting another season of this? :/

Try was too soon after GBF. It felt like they rushed it out instead of putting more thought into the format and making the fights take advantage of it. It had a few decent moments but it's definitely wholly inferior to GBF.

The new opening sure is something.

Holy fuck never ever give a orange color scheme to anything ever again. The only dude who could pull it off is TM REVOLUTION and HEINZ DESTINY CUSTOM.

And maybe Harute.

As I expected, the entire thing was just to setup
Reiji and Aila (and their daughter) fucking come back. YAAAAAAAAAAS
Other than that, the episode was kinda crappy. Shia for best girl tho

As expected, Try's OVA is meant to setup a third season and the regular GBF's OVA will likely do the same. I'm looking forward to that more than slogging through any more of IBO, at least.

I want my money back, and I didn't even pay money for it
This was my reaction.

So far Build has produced only two characters I can stand and yet its always the characters I can't stand.

Still this was for people who loved Try really so it was never gunna win me over and I do hope Try fans enjoyed it.

Try is a massive waste of potential. The 3v3 setup is great, but the show is written so that the main characters win without ever using good teamwork. Almost all fights end with Sekai yelling and punching the other team to victory. The teams that actually use teamwork should be the teams winning. The hit and run ground Gundam team, the fight near the end where the team was swapping energy packs, and hell even the Tryon-3 at least took advantage of the 3 man team. Also, Sekai is an infuriating protagonist. He's extremely generic, and lacks personality, but everyone fawns over him. He's my least favorite kind of protagonist.

This OVA didn't help my feelings about Try one bit. I was hoping to have some sort of plot building or something, but no... it was just 30 minutes of fluff, when the entire series was fluff to begin with. At least the original GBF had a teensy bit more to it, not much but it did.. there was some heart to it.

What? Sekai is the best part of it and a good lead, I could see if you were talking about bland Kousaka Yuuma who really only shines whenever Sakai is there but otherwise he is not interesting at all.

Wha?

The kid has the depath of a tea spoon. Granted I dislike the majority of Gundam leads but this kid is very likely the worst aside from Space Hitler.

That was bad. Cameo fights were the best, but there wasn't anything clever in the actual battles beyond fanservice. Just endless escalation of power.

I didn't expect much from Island since I disliked Try so much, but man, that sucked ass. The first half was just annoying fan-service-ship-bait-nonsense with all your favorite boring forgettable characters, the second was possibly one of the most emotionally disconnected fight scenes I've seen in Gundam, it wasn't even a coherent scene, they'd be in space, then over the ocean, then in a desert, then back in space, then in the hallway of the building, it's like they just mushed a bunch of leftover storyboards that had nothing to do with each other and animated it. The gunpla were all just as boring and unimaginative as they were in Try except for Gyanko's, they even took one of the only suits from the season that was at all creative and turned it into QanT with cat ears.

I just want Build Fighters to be good like the first season.

Yeah that was just more Try, but somehow a bit worse. How was Sekai even late, anyway?

At least it gave us Gyancelot. I actually kind of like the Super Fumina in Titans colors too.

Once again Minato proves he should have been number two MC over grand prix.

"Look at my custom Gunpla I put a backpack on it oooooo"
"I built a Gundam Voltron and a Gundam Girl from scratch and then improved the latter with a sick color scheme and bonus neko parts"

Well, glad I don't base my expectations on the opinions here.

Try OVA was far from shit-tier. Solid 7 out of 10. Though I agree that original GBF is superior.

Normally I'm pretty positive about most things. But this OVA just struck a nerve for some reason. If someone asks me about it, understandably I'll just tell them to watch it and form their own opinion of it, but man, I was just left with a bad feeling in my mouth except for said hoodie and the ending of course.

Honestly, I just don't care for Try. It's a big step down from the first season for me. I liked all the characters in BF, whereas Minato and Gyanko are the only characters I care about in Try. Mostly because there are so many and most of them are practically one-offs. The 3v3 system could have been cool, but it's never really used well. The Tryon fight was the most memorable fight, tbh, if only because the bad guys won.

But mostly, Sekai just completely poisons the well.

That's what's always bothered me about Yuuma. They build up his building skills so much, but all he really has to show for it are backpacks and Zeta variants.

All I'm going to say about the Try OVA is that it exists.

I just finished watching Stargazer. That was alright. Not outstanding, but it was nice seeing more of the SEED universe outside the main cast. The level of violence in the OVA seemed a lot higher than usual, but that's most likely due to not needing to follow TV standards. I think the Verde Buster was my favorite suit in it.

Next I'm either going to watch Igloo or rewatch 00.

And here I am thinking the first build gundam is meh except the fight scenes
It was. The first 15 episodes aren't bad and we see some good fights like Build VS Zaku and Wing VS Build was great.

Sadly after that it became super punch after super punch.

However Mao and Ricardo + Maijin are more enjoyable then 99% of season 2s cast.

Damn this just reminds me that Sekai still has never actually done a real burning finger, heat end, or sekiha tenkyoken much less the Love Love Sekiha Tenkyoken which given this shit has little kids as protags, definitely won't happen. Man, last season had less G Gundam stuff but at least the protags weren't awful. Somebody also needs to tell Fumina to get some actual goddamn clothes.

Don't forget the Bloodhounds episode. Probably one of the top fights of the series. I never expected to see the EXAM system in a Gundam anime

Wait... I'm confused about this OVA. What was the time gap between GBF and Try? Did
Aila and Reiji
have a kid as soon as they got home or something? What the fuck?

These two were my favorite part. The perfect example of why 3v3 was a bad idea, they can't even begin to give a shit about any of these character's teammates. Just look at them, they might as well have had some featureless plastic blocks sliding around the fight with her.

At least in S1 it was an entire fight followed by a super punch as a finishing move. In Try Sekai does literally nothing except flashy, scream the name every time, finishing moves.

Actually, I'll say one thing about the Try OVA. I thought it was hilarious at the end where Fumina and Sekai are telling Reiji's kid that she can't use someone else's Gunpla, while conveniently forgetting that Sekai did just that for the entirety of Try.

It's 8 and I think it was said that time moves faster in Reiji's world.
