The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

OMG at remastered Sai Saici, I need the BDs yesterday!!!!

So I got the White Ogre model for Christmas, which requires paint to get it to look like its super snazy ass self. Trouble is I've never done the painting side of Gunpla before. I can look up the guides on how to generally do it no problem, but does anyone have any guidance for what colors are best to use to get it to look as it should?

The manual I guess has color suggestions? But I can't read Japanese. So suggestions on how to do the White Ogre justice or what this says would be a huge help! (Also sorry for the images' size, I couldn't get it to shrink properly.)

in order to shrink any pic just quote the image.
gunpla reddit. I am positive others have completed this kit. Just ask the same thing you did here. Sorry, painting is not my expertise. I know Shun is the king of gunpla so he might know.

Aren't hasegawa kits a pain, though?

for some reason i missed this post, but yeah hasegawa have nice details and the panel lines are nice but shallow vs. bandai and megahouse. and the kits are fragile.

Gunpla is so much better. i feel the 2.0 MG and these high resolution gundams are getting close to being figures with all the nice articulation and engineering.

Kotobukiya are catching up but yeah, it's hard to deny that Bandai are the best in this business.

I haven't looked at the price yet but I can see myself building two. one just to repaint black, while keeping the green visor.

HLJ has it for $27 right now plus shipping. Shipping isn't set yet since the site is still taking preorders but I'm figuring about $40 for the model + shipping.

The Bandai color guides always refer to the wide range of paints produced by GSI Creos, so I've included the codes for each paint from the Aqueous Hobby Color line. If you want to use paints from different brands, there are various paint reference charts on the internet where you can find comparable paints.

White for Armor plating etc.
White (H11) 100%+
Midnight Blue (H55) trace amounts+
Mahogany (H84) trace amounts

Black for chest, toes etc.
Midnight Blue (H55) 70%+
Black (H12) 30%

Blue Grey for Backpack etc.
Midnight Blue (H55) 50%+
Intermediate Blue (H56) 40%+
Blue (H5) 10%

Weapons
Metal Black (H28) 100%

Pink for monoeye and sensors etc.
Fluoroscent Pink (H99) 100%

The paint guide recommends pastels or Gundam real touch markers for weathering. You could of course also choose not to paint the entire model kit and only do weathering.

Good luck!

oh man had a blast at the collectible show, almost bought a raggedy looking old kit from some seller but went to the actual good store instead. Just wall to wall Gunpla and HUGE kits and tons of revoltech and other awesome figures.

THANKS!

Super psyched about putting those three from operation V together.

I was curious about that very mecha that I found, gun cannon I believe it's called. Awesome looking OG Gundam!

Gundam 0080 war in the pocket

So that was something good! Alfred was definitely not what you would call your average protagonist and it really gave us the story from the side of a kid who had never actually heard anything about war aside from video games and other people. Even though I know that during that time frame Zeon is the bad guy, it really wasn't something evident from a stand alone point. Both side were both guilty really. My favourite part about this 6 part OVA, was probably when Alfred realised that *oh shit people die in war* after the Kaemfer attacked. The realization on what truly happen during a war.

So some bullet points

Positives

-The animation level was fantastic! It looked amazing
-the mecha battles, while not many, were very cool.
-the Kaemfer
-the characters were all super likeable, I really liked Bernie and his zeon friends.
-Alfred grew on me a lot during these six ova and boy was I sad for him at the end.
-a great OST.

Negatives
-People were really lacking in term of panic when mobile suit battles broke inside the colony.
-Why let a broken Zaku there for the whole damn time with no action taken whatsoever, that felt super dumb.

Overall I enjoyed it!

Those are definitely two sticking points. I think the officials of the colony getting upset kind of addresses point 1, but you're right in that the few average people (of which we don't see a whole lot) don't seem to be all that concerned.

As for the second, I've always assumed that the fact that it needed to be repaired meant that it would require mobile suits or construction equipment to move, and since it's located in the woods, on a incline, it was easier to simply take awat the weapons. Since the war is still going on, and the federation isn't even supposed to have mobile suits inside the colony, I imagine that would be another issue with using mobile suits to remove the Zaku.

Anyway glad you liked it! It's one of my favorites alongside 0083. Also has my favorite GM ever in it.

Moving military ordinance should always be done with extreme caution. Mobile Suits in particular can go off like mini nuclear bombs. You need qualified personnel to handle it and in a non Frontline colony it just wasn't a priority.

You are talking about the gm command? I do agree that it's a cool looking GM. The first time I remember seeing it and liking it was in MS saga on ps2 were one of the party members had it as there starting MS.

Nah, the Cold Weather GM that shows up for less than ten minutes in the first episode lol.

That's pretty much a main point of most Gundam series, especially the Universal Century ones, both sides are in the wrong when war is involved, neither side is innocent while blaming each other for one act while retaliating with an equal or greater tragedy. It's pretty common for people to just assume the Zeon's are the bad guys though until you start watching or reading a Gundam. They are kinda pegged as that even if its out of "needing a bad guy" for story focus for a few chapters.

Also my sticking point was how the hell was the school still open after a Zaku nearly crashed into it and they had a fire fight down the damn street! And it was open the next day after the Kampfer attack and Bernie's last one.

Man, the dlc units I'm sd gundam g gen genesis are so op. Barbatos is a ballar, and char zaku origin gave a straight shot to the sazabi

Man I keep forgetting this came out. How is it overall, you seem to like it. Super backlogged and just started Fire Emblem Awakening, but want to play at some point. Also wondering if I should go the Japanese version or English to support that front.

Also in the last 5 episodes of Gundam X. Went by pretty quick, feels like not all that much really happens in this series nor is there a main goal that is well defined or tangible. Love the design of the Double X though, its beefy but egregious like the effing ZZ. Especially love the head, it looks awesome. The cast is ok, but its kinda a lot of characters, few who feel important.

Sooo good, one of my favourites. Wish we'd get a blu-ray release of it.

IBO is a show that keeps on getting better for me. It's a slow burn, but worth it. I hope it ends in a suitably catastrophic and hype fashion.

Oh my god those are amazing looking, I'd definitely pick up the Freedom first. I have wanted a winged Gundam for a while now.

And that Valkyerie is amazing holy smokes.

yeah that was the valk i was talking about that migrated alot of ppl from models to figures, and it's still being re-released this year.

Are you trying to kill duckroll? You spoke the name one must not speak.

But its Aimer too, the best thing to happen to anime music. (Though do wish she would get away from anime music)

Love the size of Providence Gundam... don't think I care enough about SEED aside from the main suits to go for something like it though.

Orderedthis Gunpla starter kit and got it from the mail weeks ago so I decided to try it tonight I was intimidated cause of the marker but man even though I made tons of mistakes it was fun to draw the detailing even though it took 3x longer to make the kit. But holy smokes the DIFFERENCE!

Not to mention this one of the coolest kits I've ever put together I love it. It's pretty damn legit.
