I like Victory, but even Frozen Teardrop sounds absurd.

Haha, well, I have yet to see Victory, but I am "that guy who likes 00's second season a good bit", so I guess I have my niche opinion to bring to this community. :p I'll avoid Frozen Teardrop until further notice. (I haven't read any Gundam light novels/manga, anyway; I guess I won't start with this one.)

Lol its a train wreck.

I just wish they had focused on one time line, and that Katoki didnt tell them to fuck off because that makes everything worse.

That said he does love suit reuse so its not exactly shocking.

It does sound like that's an operative problem. Probably prevents it from feeling remotely cohesive.

Nice pics. I don't know how I feel about pirate kits though. The thought of buying and building one always feels so... dirty to me for some reason.

I was against it at first since it does not help bannam economy and because unless i was in california I would not have an easy time being able to import a third party kit.

All that changed when Dragon Momoko released Akatsuki since Bandai refused to acknowledge it and I do not want to spend 12,000円+ for the 1/100 No Grade model that was almost impossible to find except at like one mandarake.

I would only do third party kit if it is something Bandai does not offer, like with a proper Akatsuki.

The Destiny I was not going to get at first, but paying 6,500円 vs 17,000-30,000円 with extras I just said forget it. I don't do any other china brand other than Dragon Momoko.

I am really only waiting for MG G-Self and Kshatriya. I don't think there is any gunpla I want unless bandai announces something big, like a new Evangelion line.

whatever it is new years now I can worry later.

Hmmm, I guess that does make sense. If Bandai doesn't offer a kit or doesn't keep it in production for whatever reason, there's less harm. I'm curious about the quality of the parts though. Does it really feel satisfying to build or are there telling signs of it being a knock off?

Victory is very divisive. It's either liked or the worst series to some people. Hands down it has the highest body count though.

Dragon is very good, however Bandai quality it is not.

You can tell there are issues, thoughh often minor and unless yoir an experienced builder it could pass you by.

I usually would not consider it but I can understand for people who want a 1/100 kit but never get it, like with Ξ gundam from hathaway.

Well when I reviewed the Akatsuki, I was very skeptical of chinese company at first because I thought it would be worse than some kotobukiya kit and that there would be defect. I usually wouldn't consider it since but I really liked the Akatsuki as robot.

The overall final look is what sold me on the kit.

I can only speak for Dragon Momoko but that brand actually has pretty decent plastic and build quality and is as close as you get to bandai in my opinion. It still is not bandai quality but it is not bad at all. There are some slight issues but those are offset by the amount of extra stuff you get in the kit like free waterslide decal, free stand, extra effects or backpack. yami4ct also bought one and build one and as far as I know he like it and enjoy too. It is difficult to import to japan tho, but you can buy to america or other place in asia easier.

The Metal Build saves what is probably the second worst lead suit design ever.

Just need to drop the ugly colors.

I did not want to get this kit...

Interesting. Learn something everyday. Is there's a Dragon brand Metal Gear kit?! Those are always too overpriced for me to consider but they look nice. Lol.

No there is not. It is usually gundam that is third party kit because gundam is known and popular throughout asia.

kotobukiya kit like zone of ender orbital frame and metal gear usually do not have a third party.

Dragon does a Ton of Wing and SEED stuff so far.

Tallgeese 2 and 3 are some of the stuff theyve done along side Deathscythe and Epyon.

We will be getting an Altron EW with maybe even the GoL back pack if they're past is anything to go by.

Is this model kit thread in general? Just finished my Bandai Boba Fett figure. I like it a lot, had to experiment with little weathering etc. Turn out pretty good I think.

People shitting on the Destiny design ITT. Y'all have zero taste.

Having built the Akatsuki, plastic and mold quality isn't Bandai standard, but it's really damn close. Engineering is up there with any MG I've seen. It was a really fun build beginning to end and I would definitely recommend that particular kit.

I totally get being grossed out by buying pirate kits. I understand not wanting to buy stuff that doesn't really support the franchise you love. The only reason I'd ever consider a non-Bandai kit is if that design had no chance of getting an official release. You're never going to see an MG of a Metal Build design or Akatsuki, so I'm OK with those. Their Tallgeese knockoffs are much more on the negative side for me.

FWIW, non-Bandai Gundams have been a thing for ages. They just typically exist in the resin scene. Some of those companies even run out of Japan, so it's not like they'd be hard to shut down if Bandai actually cared.

I am too scared to that I am going to mess the decals up.

DO IT! haha i felt the same way on my first ever RG. which was skygrasper that i post a few pages back. and i was only a month old at doing gunpla. it was really hell but i learned how to put them on. properly. took for ages.

for smaller stickers i use a piece of dull clear tape to pick them up and put them on. after i trim the excess off. never was more stressed out than doing that skygrasper.

after that it became a but less stressed but still tough. i did like 5 stickers an hour :O

here's step by step pictures start to finishing of the decals. (i didnt know what i was doing but took my time and asked alot of questions)

Episodes 2-4 (or should I say "Phases") of Gundam Seed were tackled last night! My friend and I are mostly enjoying this series thus far. That pink-haired girl really came outta nowhere. Oh man, but back to the crazy dub: that blond pilot fellow Mu La Flaga (what a name) has some amazing delivery. "What an unmitigated disaster." "Oh shit!" There's just something about it, relative to virtually everyone else on cast, that is absolutely hilarious.

Also my friend looked up the pink-haired girl's VA and she's Soma from 00. Talk about range. Now if only I could recall her name.

Kira Yamato blasts off in Strike Gundam and Athrun is on the scene! The next episode will feature the two of them going head-to-head in spaaace!

Get used to
Athrun breaking some rules to keep Kira from getting ganked by his squad for the next couple of episodes.
I'm going to miss the Ocean dubs, they kept reusing the same people, but they did a really good job. I'm also sure Brad Swaile misses the work/paycheck.

Ok david I will put stickers on my zaku.

New Years Resolution

Build Sazabi KA
Build Nu Gundam Ka

don't buy anymore MG till I finish stickers on previous kits

I really love dubbed Rau Le Creuset. That speech he gives at the
final battle
is so well delivered.
Justice and Faith! Ignorance and Escapism! They never learn. They NEVER LISTEN.
Why torment yourself, saying eventually, some day... How long have you been fighting with you mind clouded by that brand of sweet poison?

Gives me the chills man.

Speaking of Nu Gundam and Sazabi... my best friend and I used to own those two in their action figure format when we were teenagers. I wish I knew what happened to them.

More Seed tomorrow evening, methinks!

In a fit of nostalgia, I put together the Berserk Fuhrer and Liger Zero not long ago myself. In spite of what HLJ's listing might say for the former, they're both just Gundam-style snap-fit models and don't actually require glue or paint.

Some of the designs I like but overall it feels like different mecha series.

I would so buy a mg g self gundam with perfect pack.

Edit: I just got a 120 views for that build I just posted. Guess people never seen one before

Oh hey, thanks.

That's actually my first MG and first attempt at panel lining a kit, so I made sure to try extra-hard. Though, nowadays, I'm using thinner lines for light-colored plastic like white.
Pretty amazing for your first kit. what do you use for panel lining?
i'm still a noob, i have a few guys on a modeling thread handhold me throughout the process. lol one of them recommended me a super thin pencil, so i've been using that.

These Recog in G kits are so weird
nice build!

I use a combination of the water based (bottom) and oil based markers (top).

(not my picture)

The oil based one is finer tipped, but still pretty thick. I prefer to use it for predefined grooves and trenches like the ones radiating out of the Zeong's mouth and waist lasers. Or if I want it to be visible against a dark color.

The water based one I use for everything else. First, with a cutter, I make my own groove (typically along sharp corners or soft dips). Then I run the water marker over it paying no heed to neatness. THEN I use an eraser to wipe off the excess, and the beauty is that you don't have to be delicate with it because the ink will seep deeply into the cuts you make.

The drawback to my method is that you do run the risk of slashing up your kit if you're not careful (see the head and face of my Zeong, there are two cuts). The reason for both the markers is that the oil based on is harder to rub off compared to the water based, and the water based one flows more easily.

Damn G Reco was so fucking awful design wise.

Still it gave me Gaeon and Arcane so I cant hate on everything from it.

I didn't watch G-Reco, but I love Gastima design, there's a couple cool one that I like because it didn't look like Gundam

I just received my Barbatos 1/100 last week, and haven't had time to build it yet. will probably start tonight. very excited for that. I love IBO anime

I do think that all the designs in G Reco will get serious love with the people they click with, sadly just most don't with me.

Given I think all Gundam anime is pure trash at this point I haven't bothered with Iron, which leaves me a bit sad because there is nothing from it outside of the one suit I consider to be Leo 2.0. I keep hoping a new design hits that I like, but so far I got nothing from it.

oh that's new, using a cutter, i'll try that. never thought of that. i have both those gundam markers actually the bottom one was recommended to me because it was faster to use. the top was was tougher for me to apply evenly.

Not Gundam but I did get this monster recently. Never built a Zoid before but this one looked awesome

I was really tempted to pick this up but I have yet to touch my Gojulas. On the other hand it might become sold out in the not so far future.

Yeah. I now consider Dahack one of the better mobile suits designed but nothing has clicked with me like it from IBO.
