Am I the only one that thinks the pricing annouced by MS is great.

For only $299 you getting an amazing next gen system. That is amazing.

I know the Sony and Nintendo retards on this board are trying to make this a huge deal but I think the pricing is great.

/sits back and waits for more folks to step into the light...

I just hate the fact that they took a couple games from me at launch.

I also dont like it that the HDD is being seen as an option but I understand why they went that route.

1 SKU and MUCH cheaper accessories would have prevented alot of the hate. $400 is reasonable for what you get, and many expected it, but selling the bare bones unit was a big mistake.

If the core system included a wireless controller instead of a wired one, then yeah I'd agree that it's a good price.

$299 is very, very good price for a standalone @ launch for a more casual (that doesn't need live or wireless today). Obvious stuff.

I was expecting $379-399 for the HDD so for me personally $399 with component cables, HDD & few extras is not bad at all.

Of course it would be great at $299 but that is was next xmas is for... early adopters pay extra vs casuals.

I don't get the whining (from people in the USA)???

MS has repeatedly stated they're going to be more fiscally responsible and Ken has made many comments on high pricing.

Thanks to people who think like you, sprawling, huge games like Oblivion and the various MMOGs will be of a noticeably lower quality, as well as more sparse.

As someone who is still hopefully looking forward to an X360 Oblivion, now a bit more on the fence if it turns out to be shitty, I must thank you...

it's a good price for what you get. we're all just a little peeved because we didn't get what we wanted like little babies :D

That is the worst troll ever.

This is not amazing. Every console in the last ten years has debuted at $299 or less. For $299 you're getting upgraded graphics and you're removing the hard drive. Not much else; it's truly Xbox 1.5 in that configuration. No HDD, no wireless, no HD.

$399 package is a great price, though. You get a hard drive, all wireless and all high def out of the box.

i knew it was coming, especially since the software prices increased. doesnt really bother me too much, its just now instead of 5 games ill be getting 3

I'm OK with the price.

I think a lot of the hate is odd on this board. Most will buy the $399 version, but they are pissed that there is a cheaper option that they can't buy because they wan't more than it offers.

so they see the cheap price, but have to pay the expensive one, and that hurts.

for most other new consoles, you got a basic console, basic controller and basic AV cable. Same deal here.

You want HD or VGA or some fancy ass hookup? Buy an accessory like with PS1, PS2, Xbox1, DC, blah blah

You want to save your games? buy a memory card or HDD like with PS1, PS2, DC etc

You want fancy wireless controllers? Buy one

You want wireless networking? What are you talking about - at least you got ethernet built in.

You can probably blame the PS2 launch for this. Those eBay prices were fucking ridiculous, yet people paid. The same with the PSP. MS, Sony and Nintendo are just looking for a reason to raise the price. They've been given that license by the older demographics they have. The early-adopter age might be skewed upward noticeably this gen. All IMO. PEACE.

The biggest thing is the controller.. MS has control of no 3rd party makinga controller for the system till like 2008 or something.. Thats fkin insane.. Just fkin insane.

The price is $340 as far as I am concerned. Memory card is a 100% must, no matter if you are casual or not.

I worked enough retail the past two generations to know that the only people that didn't buy memory cards with their systems were the parents buying the systems for 5 year old kids that don't care about restarting each time.

With the core package, MS is doing the same thing sony has done in the past at launch. I don't see what the big deal is. I mean did people really expect ms to throw in a wireless controller and harddrive and all that shit for 299 after MS said they wanted to make money this time around?

Of course some will buy $299 version. But in year even they will understand what a mistake it was. Because they will have to buy memo card, and as every other normal human being they will want wireless pad, hdd, cables etc. and that will COST them.

bah, its not great. i would have loved to get the hdd and all that shit for 300... but, its not that big of a deal IMO. just gives the overreacting and troll crowds something to overrun the forum with.

The thing that makes me mad is the lack of HDD being standard. The $400 system is a really good deal (assuming the $300 system is, but that's another story). However, it's still a $400 system.

Is the WiFi adapter included in the more expensive option?

No. 99 more buckaroos!

With 512 MB of RAM to fill now, prepare to have uber load times! VIVA LA NO HDD!

*shakes fist at MS*

The pricing was roughly where i thought it would be. I wouldn't describe it as great, not that out of line. The accessories do seem about 10-15% above what I thought they would be. GAF likes to bitch, everyone will calm down in a couple of days. This reminds me of the US PSP launch with only the value pack.

Edit: Instead of buying the MS wireless adapter, a wireless bridge would be cheaper and work with most devices with an ethernet port.

Well, if the HDD was included, then people would bitch about lack of a wireless controller.

And some would bitch about no HD cable in the box either.

I think the $299 model is the actual rip off and the $399 model is where the deal is at.

My post might've been misleading. I wasn't expecting them to throw that stuff in at $299. I know that all recent hardware has launched at around that price, and has included the same basic configuration. I just simply failed to see why this time, it's "amazing".

Thanks for your intelligent contribution, jerk.

I wonder how devs feel about this.

I don't think there is a MMORPG worth 160+monthly fees.

Aww that so cute. You show up, troll the thead, then get called on it. And suddenly I'm the jerk. Where right above that I actually did contribute to the thread.

Controllers are supposed to improve between generations, too, you know (more buttons, analog sticks, rumble feature, analog buttons, etc.). Both the PS3 and the Rev look like they're going to have wireless controllers as standard. With your logic, MS and Nintendo should've followed Sony's lead this gen and offered the Xbox and GC with only 2 controller ports. You want 4 controller ports? Buy an adaptor.

quit lying

I have no qualms about the price but something that has been bugging me is it kind of seems like the Hard Drive is worth no value to the 360. sure it can be used for emulation maybe(there hasn't been any talk of this ina while) but from what i've heard you can use drives from other computers to save things or stream pictures and music from portable devices. So the way i see it is you walk up to buy your xbox and you have 2 choices. the 300 dollar system gives you a standard bundle of which we have always gotten, but if you want wireless controllers and that other stuff your already over 400. Then you look at the 400 dollar option and the hard drive that comes with it and it doesn't look all that great because you really don't need it but it comes with the wireless controller and headset and HD cable and etc. so now its this wierd split of options you have. And really you have to admit if microsoft says that the hard drive isn't required YOU DONT NEED IT. I just think these are two strange bundles

I'm honestly surprised they have the joke of a core system. The system SHOULD have a wireless controller and the HDD standard (which could be removed later). Will the core system even be backwards compatible if you don't buy the HDD??

But, some Xbox fans are really singing a different tune when for the past three weeks they've denied the possibility, even as it became obvious, and hid behind vague comments from Microsoft. They attacked anybody who called it a possibility, went on and on and on about how the HDD was absolutely critical and all of a sudden now, it's not such a big deal.

They should have just had a $349 price instead of the $399 and taken it for the sake of platform adoption and getting as many users as possible before the PS3 hits.

Microsoft talked so much about these wireless controllers and HD Era and the bare bones package doesn't offer either. MS propoganda at its best! Although, I think the price of the premium package is justified... to some extent. Still fucking expensive though.

No, it's another $100 bucks.
Wow. That a bit pricey for something like that. I got carried away by his "all wireless" comment.

A lot of 'hate' if you want to call it that is probably coming from the fact that HDD is not included with every SKU, thus not required for game development. Pretty much the same reason people ragged on PS3 to no end. I think the games will end up supporting HDD for caching and such, though. Just use it if it's there and don't use it if it isn't. Kinda like Amiga games handled memory expansions, or N64 games with the memory pack.
