The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

I've not played Heroes vs. Monsters, but I'll definitely give it a shot now that I know about it. I have a feeling I'll be jonesing for some more of this genre once I'm done with Battleheart. I can confidently report that it's more than worth the 3 dollar asking price.

Alright, just try it then, it's free anyway ;) Please let me/us know how the two compare afterwards! I've been having a lot of fun with Heroes vs Monsters, but didn't play it that extensively :)

I can probably do it -- it would involve shutting down the Carc and lesser-used Ascension threads though and migrating them. I'm not sure it should be a central place for discussion of non-online-games though. Maybe just a list for reference and the rest just have be discussion of community games mostly? Hm I dunno . . . that is a lot of work. :p

Hmmm, maybe start a public Google Docs spreadsheet? GAF/GameCenter names on one axis, board games on the other, and X's to denote which games they own. Let the players do the work for you. Not sure if that's the best solution, but throwing it out there.

Up to you though, still takes some work. Makes sense to combine all the iOS game community threads to one centralized hub in my opinion though, as they aren't incredibly active separately.

For those that asked, 774 Deaths is good. It's pretty much minigames, but they take the form of short platforming levels with four different control schemes.

One is a platformer with virtual controls
One is an autorun platformer where you tap to jump
One you hold the phone vertical and tilt as a character falls through a maze of spikes
One is a top down maze-like thing that you tilt to move in.

There are about a billion things that kill you, and your goal is to get to the exit in each level without dying. Sometimes it's simple to see how you get to the exit but hard to execute, other times you have to think harder about how to get there... then it's still hard to execute. There are 33 levels which might not sound like many, but I doubt many people will reach the end, certainly not soon. Wrapped in ace retro graphics, proper retro not just "lol pixels."

It's not called 774 Deaths for nothing. Well worth 69p/$1/Your Currency Here.

Nightfall is way more like Ascencion than Food Fight. Food Fight and Agricola aren't too similar to the others, while Ascencion/nightfall/summoner wars are more similar.

Have you tried Ascencion yet? Might wanna try that one first and see if you like it, i you do you'll most likely also enjoy Nightfall.

Yep, I've had Ascension since it came out. Think I'm just annoyed at myself for not looking into Food Fight more and trusted the devs a bit too much -- though can't fault them for the weak source.

And Carc is ... well, Carc is the board game against all other board games should be measured. My Friends list is about 300 and I bet over 50% play Carc. Every 2 months or so I just start up about 30 concurrent games.

Aw, I can't believe people hate Food Fight. I almost want to buy the real game! It's simple but it's so fucking clever and gorgeous.

Drawing of what looks like a dart board and the heart/diamond/club suits for cards, and some rectangle with a cross hatch pattern.

The word is 5 letters from the options below:

A EE I GG M SSS VVV

What is it? I've tried like 40 combinations so far. It's not GAMES :(

Have you tried Aegis ?

If you like these games, definitely get Raid Leader. It's $1, universal, and has a solid amount of really cool boss battles that are more involved strategically than Battleheart IMO.

I need to give it more of a chance myself. Are you saying there's a clever mechanic at play? It does seem pretty basic but I've just gone through the tutorial and like one real game might be missing stuff.

No, I mean, it's so clever the way it's built thematically. Like certain foods are good to eat no matter what the meal is, so they have high battle points across any of the three battlefield meal divisions (breakfast lunch and dinner). It's very uncomplicated to be sure, but it's just so fun.

Gunman Clive will be officially released tomorrow, so I though I'd give away a few promo codes. The game is a sidescrolling action game (MegaMan clone) set in the old west with a funky artstyle. It's a universal app and has iCade support.

Gunman Clive codes sent via PM

I might give away a few more in a few days, but I'll have to hold on to them and see if I can find some more review sites for now

LOL Love the trailer: "Lots of brown," "Some bosses and stuff."

Looks really cool.

Man, everyone keeps trying to sell me on an iPad. So I have already have a netbook which I mainly use to code in Visual Studio 2010, play Europa Universalis 3, and MAME. None of which the iPad does so I'm not paying $500 for that. I wanted something portable that I could fit in my running backpack and use on the bus ride back from work after I jog in, so the iPad is a total no go.

I hear ya on the iPad, no interest in carrying that thing around and when I'm at home, I want access to Windows programs plus Firefox, not Safari. I have 2 laptops and 2 desktops that all run pretty much the same software so no matter which machine I use, I have a homogeneous working environment. Using an idevice at home means having to think about "apps" that would made decent substitutes.

I have an iPod Touch 4g/32 and it's super portable to the point of hardly knowing it's in your pocket; it's almost too thin. As far as I know there aren't any games it can't play versus iPhone. The only difference hardware wise is the iPhone has 512MB RAM vs 256 in the Touch and the camera resolution is lower on the Touch. And yes, the Touch 4Gs have a gyroscope.

Ascension: CotG is pretty fun. Anyone know any other good games that offer card style gameplay? I'm playing on an iPhone.

HOLY CRAP!!!

That game looks awesome! I hope you get featured on the iTunes App front page so you get good sales.

I hope it controls well. The video looked like it was being controlled smoothly but how do the controls actually work? Is it an on-screen HUD with dpad and shoot/jump buttons?

Shadow Era (Free)
Assassins Creed: Recollection (99cents)
Cabals (Free)

Also Shadow Era is cross platform on iOS/Android/PC/Mac and anything with a web browser. It plays alot like the WoW TCG. Check out my OT on it. Booster packs and cards can be earned for free and if you decide to buy booster packs they are as little as 1 dollar each.

As far as a potential iOS board gaming thread goes, how about something like this for the OP?

NeoGAF iOS Board Gaming Community

I took the user data from the Carcassonne and Ascension threads to get the rough idea. It would be pretty easy to maintain either public or private as far as the editing goes. As far as I know you can't rotate text in Google Docs, so the formatting for game titles is the best solution I could find.

I'd leave it up to AstroLad or kryptikjoker to handle the rest, as they did great on their board game OPs and would know which games to cover.

Sound like a plan?

Cool idea, can we edit? I'd specify both TtRs btw and remove Small World I think? (Or does that have online play now.) I can also make some suggestions for games to add like Samurai.

Yes it's oncsreen gamepad. I'll admit it's not optimal but it works well enough. It also supports iCade (and the Android version supports Xperia Play and there will be a PC version released sometime soon)

Yeah, you can have people just go to the spreadsheet and add their own information to keep things easy. I just have it locked right now. You could designate certain people to have editing ability too. Added some random board game names to give an idea of how it would work, dunno if they're all online haha.

Plus there's a few user names that have conflicting information that need taken care of.

Yeah I would think maybe we just start from scratch and get everyone to go on and add their info? That way we know it's fresh. This is going to be way easier to maintain than the list of Carc names in the Carc thread and it should ideally be fresher info.
