The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

I'm getting my first iPad this week sometime. I'm trying to find good shooters that aren't bullet hell. Any recommendations? So far I found Air Attack HD which looks like it could be fun.

Thanks!

Hatchi Update is out! Adds some achievements and GC support killed my pet Boobz McGee to start over 😄 I actually feel guilty for doing it too.

Man, the person playing in the Shogun video sucks. Game looks great though, bullets are nice and fast like they should be for touch control. Not that Cave games are lacking any difficulty. Hope the frame rate holds up. And I hope the ship control is good. That will pretty much make or break it for me.

Edit: It seems to be getting pretty great feedback, and the grazing mechanic looks AMAZING. I absolutely love the Cave games and DDP Smartphone mode is my absolute favorite because of the grazing mechanic. My hype-meter is off the charts. This thing came out of nowhere, only read about it last week.

from dev:
We plan to improve the game and publish several updates in the coming weeks.

We already added some new control options based on the feedback we got on french forums.

Gamecenter is on the list, we're also working on a replay system and the possibility to publish youtube video of the best replays directly from the app.

If anyone is looking for another shmup lover to compete with, feel free to add me:

GC: Hispanicguy

Glad to hear updates are on the way. That uploading feature sounds great.

I'm a lover, but I'm shit at them. Does that still count? ;)

And which game are you referring to about the updates?

That Shogun game isn't on the AU App Store either. What is it with NZ getting everything way earlier than us?

lol, don't worry, I'm not amazing at these games either but that doesn't stop me from spending many frustrating hours attempting (keyword: attempting) to learn them.

I was talking about Shogun, btw. Glad it's not going to be a game where it's released with no updates afterwards.

Thanks for the GC requests.

Anyone know anything about this Call of Cthulhu RPG that's coming out tonight? Minsc?

Holy hell, thats out tonight? Everyone should get it.

I used to love JRPGs but have barely touched them since Dragon Quest 8 because I find them so tedious now, but Cthulu Saves The World changed that for me again... It fixes so many of the broken JRPG conventions, has a great combat system, very fast paced with lots of humour and charm.

Can't recommend it enough :)

I'm...sorry, it's not Cthulhu Saves The World. It's some SRPG using the Call of Cthulhu license:

So I've been playing the Dungeon Defenders demo on PSN and I'm INCREDIBLY impressed. Did not expect such a fun, robust, and deep game. It's $15 on PSN and $3 on iOS so naturally in wondering if anyone has any a comparison or impressions between the two versions? How do the controls fare on the iPhone version?

EDIT: Bought the Steam version.

I'm still considering a double dip so I can play with my brother, what are GAFs impressions of the iOS version?

If you don't have an iPhone 4S don't even bother with it.

Stick with the PS3 version. Game is great on the iPad, but way too cluttered on the iPhone's screen.

Geography/dateline. We're in the future.
Only by a few hours, though. And I think you guys now have one island actually ahead of you? Second place is first loser :P

Edit: Sweet. It's not on the AU app store, but if you use this link you can download it in iTunes (I think it's via the NZ-region store). Woo!

Dungeon Defenders really doesn't control well on iOS either. I can cope with a lot of touch screen controls but not that game, myself, and i'm on an ipad 2.

Yeah, Samoa jumped the dateline last year, and a bunch of other island nations did years ago. Not sure how that's relevant though...

Anyone know the name of that word/puzzle game that seems to be getting a lot of mentions on various podcasts?

Ive heard it mentioned a couple times and the enthusiasm with which people were talking about whatever-tha-fuck this game is has been intense.

I need to check it out.

Would it be Puzzlejuice? I think the last place I heard it mentioned was the latest Weekend Confirmed.

Just played through the brief tute for Shogun, like the mechanics quite a lot. Still has that overly smooth "indie" game art style (mainly with the pop-up dialogue) that never really sits well with me, but I'm sure it won't make a difference during the meat of the game.

I need it to release in the US!

Is it Spelltower?

Wonderful music but mediocre game.

Cannot be bothered to do the Trigon piece collection hunt. Also, fuck having to actually play the game on a specific day to progress.

Swords & Sworcery is overhyped.

Great music though.
Not necessary. :p The dialogue with other characters hints (very clearly imo) at a location in-game that has an alternate solution for that (the only acceptable one in my eyes, as waiting days or advancing the clock are lame ways to do it).

You can check out the leaderboards (which you can filter by country, city or which iOS device) as well as how the scoring system works.

Played the first level a couple of times. Enjoying the grazing system but would be better if I knew where the hitbox was lol. Runs smoothly. I see myself purchasing the other 3 levels in a few. Playing on an iPad 2 btw.

1 thing I'm not crazy about though is having to lift your finger off the screen in order to switch weapons.

EDIT: You can buy each mission for .99 or buy the full game for $1.99 (33% off). You can try out each level before buying but the trial is so short you might as well buy it anyways.

Shogun is really really good. I have a feeling we'll see a few tweaks in upcoming updates, but it's pretty solid as is. I was pretty surprised by how good some of the patterns are, especially in the later levels. Pretty intense/fast, I'm gonna have fun learning them.

#3 in world, 1 in US for stage 1 LOL. Enjoying this before all the true shmuppers get the game this week and send me back down to the bottom.
Edit: I see you climbing up Hispanic!

shogun is pretty awesome. definitely try out the free mission if you're curious. especially great on iPad 2.

Coming from the Cave games it's crazy having the entire screen being used. So hectic. And your hand placement definitely becomes a factor. I always like playing Cave games with a medium or small screen size even on the iPad.

Huh? Shogun is free? I was prepared to pay for it, lol.

edit: aha.... first mission is free. Others are IAP.
