The Kelvin Timeline is Dead? Kurtzman Hints That There is No Longer Separate Universes for Trek Movies & TV (New Movie in 2023)

Last week’s big news that Paramount Pictures had put a Star Trek movie on the calendar for the summer of 2023 has fans buzzing and wondering if it will be connected to all the Star Trek TV happening on Paramount+. Now the man in charge of all those TV shows is weighing in on the new reality of modern franchises.

“I think vertical alignment has made it so that it’s impossible not to accept the reality that the line between movies and television is gone. It doesn’t mean that you can’t have a feature that is separate from television. But if they aren’t connected in some way, then you’re basically running two universes parallel as opposed to interconnected, and I think that those messages could potentially cancel each other out.”

So basically it'll be like it was back with the original movies, which were set in the same prime universe as the TV shows.

The whole reason the Kelvin timeline happened, besides JJ Abrams' reboot ego, was because at the time CBS and Paramount were separate. Now that Viacom has reunited everything, the Prime universe is the only Trek universe.

This would mean the final mention of the Kelvin timeline would be in DISCO Season 3:

Sad. But then again ST is a franchise that has lived and died on TV and movies multiple times. The movies did ok but weren't ever really hits.

But I can't begin to care about the new lore. Frankly, it feels like if you watch Star Trek TOS, TNG, and others, there are so many alternate universes presented we see them go to, and they never made a big deal about it. I think when a creator gets really anal about continuity and lore, that's when a series is in super trouble.

It means it'll be back to how it used to be with the movies being set in the same universe as the TV shows as opposed to there being a JJ Abrams lens flare universe and the TV universe.

I'm not even that big a fan of Star Trek, but even I'm groaning at this news. It just means that whatever abomination that hack Kurtzman has worked on will now be declared canon and salty fanboys can suck it. It's the only way he can justify the turds that he produced like Discovery and Picard. Now watch as he continues to muddy the canon with this new Strange New Worlds prequel with Pike and Spock.

Even if they stop making movies in that universe, it still impacted the Prime universe with nonsense like the supernova destroying Romulus and whatnot.
One of the stupidest plotlines ever. The Romulans in back-to-back films (Nemesis and Star Trek '09) have been portrayed as incompetent fools. Their leaders and scientists are just as capable as any in the Federation and now for some reason they are always getting caught with their pants down?

They are built up in the TV show as this great empire that has their sh*t together, but then we never really got a good Federation vs. Romulan showdown ever. Would have loved to see a good Romulan villain or anti-hero or something worthy of all the decades of building them up, but their plotlines end with a whimper.

The Romulans went from clever and dangerous antagonists who belonged to an star empire that rivaled the federation in TOS and TNG.

To a poor and misguided attempt at allegory of the current migrant crisis in Picard.

And who can forget the laughable Romulan antagonists that Kurtzman and company dare to pass of as villains today? What a joke Star Trek has become.

I'm crashing through Voyager and the first time we see actual Romulans, they are portrayed as an interesting mix of stringently militant, shortsighted, out right dumb and also somehow super scary watch out guys.

"This expensive prototype ship has a neat feature that's never been tested and we don't know what it does."
"Fire it up."
"But sir, we don't-"
"You heard me, fuck face."

"Program, why are you active?"
"I activated myself."
"You can't do that, that's now how you're built."
"Yes I can, yes I am."
"Oh." *promptly drops subject and leaves*

"Expensive, potentially game changing prototype ship, identify who's flying you."
"Er, um, you know, no one special, also my cameras don't work so don't bother checking."
"Ok. You don't sound anything like a Romulan, but since I really really need to take this expensive damn ship with me, I'm going to count to three but start firing on you at two. Comply with my idiot request or I'll destroy your expensive ship I really really need in one piece."

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
The Kevin Timeline is just to separate what happened in the original TV series & the movies.
This is even present in Picard.
It's not that confusing
Plus the kevin Timeline gave us this beauty

She's Sela, Tasha Yar's half Romulan daughter from an alternate timeline. And yes, that's Denise Crosby playing her.
I always liked the episode Yesterday’s Enterprise; where she appears on the Enterprise D out of nowhere and then transfers to the Enterprise C as they go back into the rift. I always thought that was it for Yar until they explained her daughter.
I need to rewatch this series, it’s so good!

Too elaborate: Crosby left the show because she didn't like they way Gene was handling TNG. But when he died and other people took over (and the show subsequently became good) she realized her leave was a bit premature and wanted to come back, but this became problem as they had killed of her character yet they still wanted her to be Tasha in some way.

Now its just a question though what they are gonna do. Picard was a total failure and Discovery is just "ok" nowadays. Unless they step up their game with Strange new Worlds this franchise is officially going to have trouble moving forward.

Heard Lower decks were quite good though. Think i'm gonna check it out.

Lower Decks is Star Trek making fun of itself. but it isn't really Star Trek. It is a comedy series in the Trek world and trappings. It is entertaining but it is not what you would want Trek to become.

I've lived long enough to see my childhood heroes turn into retards.
I'd have much preferred they would have let them die as heroes.

Couldn't care less about Discovery, didn't even watch the two other seasons. But what they did to Picard, his ideals and what he stood for, Data, Seven and ma boi Icheb is unforgivable.
Star Trek as I know it is dead to me. Let Kurtzman defile what's left of that rotting corpse, but at least have the human decency to leave our beloved classic characters alone.

Yea i checked it out now and its so not my thing. Found it just annoying, especially in the way everyone was just shouting all the time.

Star Trek shouldn't exist anymore. They've long gone past flogging a dead horse, beyond dry humping it, they have been raping its fly-blown corpse for years now.

But hey, if these idiots want to blow millions on a movie without an audience... I urge them to go right ahead. The actual fans of the franchise (like me) have gave up in disgust.

They are both total failures as far as I'm concerned. I have a bit of hope for Strange New Worlds. It could be decent if they just follow the formula of TOS and have the Enterprise exploring on a 5-year mission. Make each episode self-contained with little or no larger overarching plot.

The thing that REALLY bothered me about Discovery is that it's supposed to take place pre-TOS, yet the ship's technology seems to be more advanced than TNG Trek. Really?

Yeh, I watched all of TNG multiple times bro.

Its just not funny to me. Must be the artstyle and delivery.

But the last entry in the Star Trek franchise was Enterprise. Is the 'Kelvin timeline' from that shitty fan-fiction I keep hearing about?
