The Last Guardian |OT| In my memories, the monster always has kind eyes

I played about 3 hours of the game and I hate how unresponsive the controls are and how unclear the next objectives are. I am kind of disappointed since I really expected to be enjoying it more than that.

Keep in mind that I played, beat, and enjoyed The Shadow of Colossus.

It seems i have a problem. I'm still watching walkthroughs of this game on Youtube. I really need to stop doing this at some point soon. I never watch other walkthroughs but i enjoy watching people play The Last Guardian. I don't feel the need to replay it myself at this point (i did replay once) but apparently i can't say goodbye to the game yet.

Trico is easily my favourite video game/book/movie character ever. It's such a fantastic, beautiful, majestic and lifelike creature. On one side, it's a fearful beast (to it's enemies) but it is also a kind "friend" to the boy. Also, i don't know if it was on purpose but the black lines running from his eyes to it's nose make it look really sad, as if it's crying. The developers did a truly amazing job bringing this creature to life. I'm still impressed by things i see in his behaviour when watching playthroughs.

The Last Guardian is a fantastic and truly memorable game experience. Easily one of my alltime favourite games.

After having a gap of about a week since I finished (and touched the game) but I know now that it is definitely one of my favourite games ever.

Finally finished this game myself, and I both hate it and love it. The controls and camera sometimes makes me rage way more than I should. The kid also feels like a drunken sack of potatoes when he falls over and stumbles over everything. But... As I said, I love this game, and it comes out as one of my top 3 from 2016. Such an amazing setting, the same which makes me love both ICO and SOTC. Beautiful world and music which keeps the mystery without explaining too much. I hope the long production time didn't discourage Team Ico from making more games. They are a bit of a niche, but still a great addition to gaming... If that last sentence made any sense...

About half way through this I think. All I kept hearing before I played was how controlling Trico was problematic. So far it's pretty much done everything I've asked without too many issues. It's the little annoying tattooed kid whatever his name is that's going to make me put the controller through the screen. He seems to do everything you input on the third button press and controls like a giraffe on ketamine!

The Amiga Brotherhood
Had this for a month and pick it up once in a while. I'm really enjoying the relaxed laid back gameplay only the controls feel lethargic sometimes, which can cause some heated moments. Wish the game ran at 60 fps might have felt perfect then. Framerate is sometimes sluggish, which i'm sure doesn't help the control response. The mutt doesn't always follow my commands which maybe adds to the charm of the game (or maybe not for some people).

Overall i'm liking the design of the game so far.

Began last week. Play it around 2 hours a day.

First day I was disappointed. I didn't even want to go back to play it. Very simple gameplay and lag spikes.

The next day BAM! The game slaps me across the face for not trusting it and I'm in love with the story, the gameplay and I am amazed by the technical side of this game with Trico.

I'll post again when I beat it (probably gonna cry, I'm a sensitive dude).

Finished this during the weekend. I had played like 2 hours when it released and left it there, picked it up again and the game really clicked and in fact really surpassed my expectations.

Trico, the boy's animation, the puzzles, the locations... the climbing... many games could take notes of this game's climbing, my hands were sweaty more than once. Granted at times it's frustrating, Trico won't react and I was the first to complain about the camera and the controls... but boy it is worth it. PS4 Pro at 1080p btw.

The first time I reached the
white tower
I knew I would forever remember this game. Really glad I gave it a chance.

Incredibly Naive
Loving it so far finally got around to playing it. It is a mess though, the controls are heavy and the camera is clunky, which causes commands to get all funky. Trick listens fine IMO you just have to make sure he actually heard the proper command.

Weird that they don't have walking... There is only tip toeing or sprinting.

Finished the game.

SPOILERS AHOY

Cried when Trico gave me that look while being attacked in the village at the end. I love dogs and that last look killed me. The barrel thing is... it was a shocker. All this time I was so cheerful feeding my dog these things. Even made my own happy barrel song while getting them. The after-credits are a cherry on top of this magnificent cake, I'm so happy I played this. Left with questions, like I always do with Team Ico games.

If it wasn't for the lag spikes and at times frustrating movement, this would be a 9/10 for me, but for now its a 8.5/10. One of the best games I've played in a long time.

That barrel thing was like, WTF!?!?. And yes, that ending. Wow.

Hi everyone.
I need a bit of a push in the right direction.

I'm really quite early but I'll spoiler tag where I'm stuck.

I've just got the ability to give commands Trico.

I don't fully understand what each of the buttons do.

But I've managed to get Trico to jump over a broken bridge.

Trico then starts headbutting some closed gate which has metal bars across it and it looks like there's lightningable wood behind it though I don't have the mirror.

Also to the left hand side there looks like a platform that I can grab onto.
However Trico only climbs up onto the wall on the far left so I always miss the jump.

How do I get past that but also which one of the face buttons tells Trico to climb. I have no idea so i keep trying everything.

There's no button to get him to climb, it's just part of what he might do when you point him in the right direction. As far as I can remember from where you are
you need to get him to stand up towards the centre or right area near the edge. I think I was stuck there for a while and realised I just needed him to lift me up over to the right or even I just needed to go towards the cliffside and either jump up first or hang and follow the wall without any of his help. In fact now that I tbink about it I think that's what it is. The only reason you might need to get Trico to lift you up is because there is a barrell up there.

R1 + X - Sit/Scold
R1 + O - Stand/Praise
R1 + Triangle - Jump/Stomp
R1 + Square - Swipe/Attack
R1 + Pointing to a direction - Go to that direction

Remember its an AI, so don't smash the buttons and confuse it. Try it once, wait.... try it again.

I would add that most of these commands are not necessarily crucial to get through the game. The only one that will be used more often is the Jump command, other than that it's mostly pointing to a direction. I used the Scold command once in the whole game, Stand/Praise not even once (at least not when it should have been used :p).
Trico also does a lot on his own, so you can sometimes just watch him and see if that gives you some sort of hint.

Is this game causing any else's PS4 to become noisy? The typical jet engine sounds I mean.

Yeah, even ramped up my Pro. I think it's a combination of everything the game is doing and some jank/optimization issues.

Also, I love seeing this topic bumped, as what a ride. I was a late finisher but I still ain't going back for more. Maybe one day I'll do a second playthrough.

Picked it back up and finished it.

I... I liked it, mostly. It has a lot of jank and a lot of problems. It's frustrating that I have such a lukewarm view since Ico and SotC are two of my favourite games of all time.

I love Trico to bits and I think he's why I continued playing.

NomadColossus released a lot of vids yesterday (or the day before) out of no where but I haven't seen any yet. Hoping for some nice secrets/easter eggs

Plain PS4? Drop the resolution to 720p and enjoy somewhat stable(ish) 30 FPS like it's 2004! I couldn't have completed the game without it.

You can do this!?

Gonna replay it very soon now knowing this.

That's what I got from it as well, unless I'm wrong?
The only reason I thought that they might be related is the colour of the goop as the humans are slipped into the delivery mechanism - it's the same as the glow of the barrels you're feeding Trico throughout the game. Just one more thing they want to leave ambiguous I assume.

Does this really work? No one mentioned this, not even Digital Foundry, so I assumed it would just downscale to 720p and you would end up with the same frame rate as on 1080p.

I never knew about any of this until reading about it by accident, because the game never tells you. All you're told is to "hold R1 while moving", which I interpreted as that (pointing Trico in a direction) being all you could do. It never crossed my mind to even try the other buttons, because of how the instructions were worded. A bit too opaque IMO. But I'm pretty sure you don't actually need any of the other commands, Trico usually does what he should just by being pointed in the right direction (eventually).

Yeah I had the exact same understanding and that made me struggle to make Trico do what I wanted. I was lucky to find out about these commands on a youtube comment halfway through the game and it really improved things for me. I agree the game should do a better job there.

Doesn't the game basically state R1+ (whatever) will have Trico ape your actions? I hadn't read about those commands specifically but it's seemed pretty obvious to me that was the case just from the direction given in game.

No, it says something like "hold R1 while moving the boy to command Trico". I specifically remember it saying "moving", as that's why I interpreted it as R1 + direction being the only command you could give. Those instructions did not make me even consider trying the face buttons.

I don't remember the exact words, but the wording was definitely better in German. At least I understood directly that his mimickikg goes beyond simple directions.
The game includes a lot of experimenting though to an extent that hurts it a little.

The game definitely tells you that Trico started to mimick the boys' actions. After it told you of the R1 while moving thing.

Yeah, I'm legitimately surprised I was able to infer the rest of the commands (English). As a rule of thumb if I'm not told something in a game I'll never do it.
