Slow zombies are boring as fuck and i just never feel threatened in movies or games based on them (except maybe the original dawn of the dead).

Wrong. Slow Zombies can be really frighting, if you give the player only few options to fight them. Thats why the early Resident Evil games worked: limited space, ammunition, health, weapons, support and unknown terrain. Intelligence and surival skills were the only advantages over the zombies. Sadly the average customer doesn't wants to feel weak and gets bored of slow spaced games, so deveolpers had to power-up the players and the zombies.

Glad to see some with the talent of ND has the courage to do high budget new IPs. Looks interesting, I'm a sucker for survival stories, but the Zombie scenario is getting tiring.

I hope you guys silence all of the critics with interesting gameplay footage in a few months time. Well, the zombie haters will stay pressed, of course.

Not sure why people are making so many assumptions just based on the trailer and the fact that it's ND. Both Jak 3 and Uncharted were character/story driven games, but one was open world platformer and one was linear TPS. I'm not saying The Last of Us will be open world, I'm just saying it's not necessarily fair to assume it will be linear and just like Uncharted just because it's from ND.

Have you actually played too many zombie games, or are you just sick of them merely existing?

For me it's the setting that I'm bored with. I don't care if it's a game/book/movie/comicbook, I'm just bored with the post-apocalyptic zombie setting and a story based on people living in that setting.

Stubbs the Zombie is a zombie game I liked because it mixes things up. The world isn't completely destroyed yet and it has a humorous tone.

Was not expecting this at all. Someone talked about in UC3 there was a possible hint that it could be Naughty Dog. I guess they were right. For those who are curious about that the article is here...

I think there's just an assumption with the level of visual fidelity we've come to expect in current gen ND games... it would be very difficult to do this in an open world.

That type of game might be possible (those folks are wizards) but it seems less likely.

There's been a ton of speculation in the video gaming community over the past week about a couple of videos that were released and also housed on the LastofUs.com website. We're very excited to confirm that The Last of Us is developed by Naughty Dog Inc, the creators behind the UNCHARTED, Jak and Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot series.

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director, and Bruce Straley, Game Director, gave us all a very, very brief snippet on what to expect in The Last of Us:
The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Sony Computer Entertainment America ANNOUNCES THE LAST OF US, A NEW PLAYSTATION®3 EXCLUSIVE DEVELOPED BY NAUGHTY DOG
LOS ANGELES, December 10, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC announced today The Last of Us, a new franchise created exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Developed by Naughty Dog, the creators of the highly acclaimed and best-selling UNCHARTED™ series, The Last of Us was unveiled in a world premiere trailer at the Spike TV 2011 Video Game Award Show.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

The Last of Us is developed by some of the industry most talented game designers including Bruce Straley, game director, and Neil Druckmann, creative director. Naughty Dog advanced to the forefront of the videogame industry in 1996 with the successful introduction of Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation. The developer extended the franchise with Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and Crash Team Racing, selling 22 million copies worldwide and led to Naughty Dog being the most successful video game developer in the United States for that console generation. The team then created the Jak and Daxter franchise including Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy®, Jak II™, Jak 3™ and Jak X: Combat Racing™. All four of titles are PlayStation®2 “Greatest Hits”. In 2007 the team released UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune® and followed with UNCHARTED2: Among Thieves™ and the recent November launch of UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception™. Having currently sold over 13 million units worldwide, the UNCHARTED franchise represents some of the most impressive graphics, sound and processing capabilities found on PS3.

So, is this why I didn't see Bruce Straley's name in the credits for Uncharted 3? Is he directing this? Or is he not at Naughty Dog anymore?

Edit: Already answered!

Both? Honestly don't think I've ever really enjoyed a game that happens to be zombie focused. Both left 4 dead games, both dead risings, all the resident evils, the multitude of downloadable games with a zombie focus. Nothing has ever clicked with me. Same with movies and tv zombieland walking dead, the dozens of zombie movies.

Since you guys have a history of listening to US, the geniuses at NeoGAF, I will allow you the honor of hearing my ideas for this game.

- Online Multiplayer
- RPG style level up type system and customization
- An alien type enemy should appear half way thru the campaign
- A dubstep soundtrack by Deadmau5
- Allow nude modability for Digital Ellen Page
- A side quest that gives you the ability to do magic or fight with a really cool sword

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director, and Bruce Straley, Game Director,

Who are these guys and why should I be excited?

Serious question. No troll.

I'm more interested to see if there are ant enemies, like it was indicated in the fungus-infected ant teaser. The second half of the video got me so hyped. There's an unlimited amount of potential for some suspenseful set pieces with that.

No idea how those enemies would work though. Were humans also taken over by some fungus-ant hybrid?
