There's a difference, but it's not a massive one, un-noticeable a lot of the time given the relative LOD differences. In-game you're never looking at characters as close up as you are in cut scenes, so it makes perfect sense.

Heck, I'd argue that UC2/UC3 have more "Oh wait shit, this is gameplay?" Moments, than most games out there.

yup, many times in UC3 I was wondering why Drake wasn't moving anymore lol

in the last part of the narration, it seems Ellie wasn't born before the infection? I mean she can't remember the streets filled with people

Instead of completely open world or completely linear, I hope the game offers you option as to which path to take where some parts will make your life harder than if you had taken other path.

Casting a girl who could be "anywhere between 12-18" is the smartest thing about this whole enterprise, given how many repressed pedophiles will buy this game.

Not complaining mind you, but it's classic: don't ask / don't tell marketing. Sony will be all "this poor child and her guardian" and men all over the world will totally eat up the subtext.

Super smart. :)
There is plenty of this creepiness just a few pages back in this thread.

That could only be possible with a 100 million budget or less polished sections.

Could've been a baby, or a young toddler. You don't exactly remember streets and shit from when you were a child.

Are you fucking joking?! Look at that shirt, every wrinkle there is polygonal and smooth as hell. I can't see a single polygonal edge. The poly count being displayed here is beyond insane. Unless Naughty Dog has somehow managed to pull off some insane tessellation for their models, this is (once again) not real-time.

To be fair, UC3 character models have crazy clothes detailing too.

ND have said they have an insane LOD system that will actually ratchet the fuck out of polygonal and geometrical detail the closer up to something you get until it looks straight unbelievable. I'd imagine that's what's going on here.

Oh I agree on that. However nothing gameplay-wise in Uncharted 3 approaches this.

We should treat this trailer the same as we treated that one.

The girl having her ovulation cycle may be too mature for some but I think being used once through the game and finding a convenience store to get tampons would be cool if used correctly and once during the game since there may be a day and night cycle.

This game is actually "Hard Candy 2: Nature Strikes Back".

I said this a while back, but I'll say it again: Castration kit for a DLC weapon. Take that, ZombieMushroomInfectoids!

Nah, Drake's model has no LOD at all in single player, but his shirt details, wrinkles, and folds are all thanks to the blending of normal maps.

I just did some research and THIS SHIT APPARENTLY LIVES EVERYWHERE.

It's COMMON.

They have an R&D Institute for it in CHICAGO.

Let me repeat:
A sentient fungus that infects our goddamn pets and then moves on humans, which affects the brain at such levels as to cause SCHIZOPHRENIA - is apparently common all over civilized North America.

Sorry, but protozoa =/= fungi by a longshot.

---

And the fungi affecting humans in the game doesn't work as the one on arthropods.
Apparently by the quick showing on the video, it doesn't even work on it's own phyla.
But I've come to terms with the monsters already. :(

Actually the guy who asked if ellie was 18 was the creepier one, and the twitter thing about not changing the charcter from looking like that young ass actress.

And then you can do a special cut scene where you get to teach her how to use it huh? Amirite?

:rolleyes

Agreed, oddly GTA3 had elements of open design, allowing the player to blockade areas before starting a mission, R* saw this as a bug and ''fixed it'' with later games.

GTA3 really had some awesome missions that almost required you to plan ahead to e.g.get a suitable vehicle and weapon. This made experimenting possible, like what happens if I show up with this big ass truck or like blocking escape routes of the targets.
Such a shame...

is this ingame capture.? o_O unbelievable.
All they have confirmed is that the footage is in-engine.
The trailer begins with: "The following trailer is captured directly from a PLAYSTATION 3."

The above image of Drake in front of the plane, is also in-engine. That doesn't mean it's rendered in real-time.
Which means the image can also be captured on a PS3. (That exact screen shows up when you play UC3.)

That's how Uncharted has done it for at least the last two games. You have very highly detailed in-engine video that allows the game to load in the background to have very nice transitions without a dedicated loading screen as many other games do it.
And because the gameplay and the videos are both done using the same game engine you don't have stylistic breaches.

Anyone that believes that the trailer that was shown was running in real-time (which would be unprecedented with this level of detail) as opposed to pre-rendered using the game engine is going to be disappointed when the game comes out.

I thought the first one was a joke, and the second one a platonic appreciation of her current character model more than passive pedo desire.

But maybe they're both just odd.

This proves the reason as to why I don't want next-gen to happen just yet. Nothing I've seen so far on PC looks to be a generation beyond what we currently have and that includes Samaritan.

Technically The Last of Us is not even that far off Uncharted, it's just going with a different visual style which makes a difference.

I like what i've seen. Especially when the girl finds the bullets. That was a moment where I realy thought "Ok, so they might do a real survival action game here". Definitly gonna keep an eye on this. I'am not a big fan of uncharted, but I do see the technical achievements of their work and this makes me even more excited about this new title.

People say the same thing every time ND shows a new Uncharted trailer. How many people have you found that are disappointed in the visuals found in those games?

You are saying two different things. What I've said above is also true for Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3.
I'm not disappointed in the visuals nor the technique. I like that they are videos as opposed to real-time, because that is the exact reason that allows them to load in the background so I don't have an interrupted game playing experience.

Either way, the picture that guy responded with a few posts down had me rolling.

Thing is, that's a bullshot with straight up crazy IQ. There were actually jaggies, shimmering etc in this trailer so I'd argue it's a bit different. I'd also say that gameplay wise UC3 does approach that, just not with that level of IQ.

Bear in mind the lighting is completely different so it's harder to compare.

Think about Uncharted 4 at launch of the PS4.

Interesting to see a new IP from Naughty Dogs. Its good to see something new from them instead of another uncharted. Looking forward to this.
