For the people complaining about framerate and IQ, how close are you sitting from the TV?...
If you sit back on the couch (the way console gaming was intended), these things are way less noticeable.
If you sit 1 foot away from your computer monitor, of course it's extremely obvious.
I'm playing on a 103'' projector screen from 10 feet. Resolution and jaggies are certainly noticeable but it barely matters, the art assets and lighting are exquisite. Of course I would love to be able to play it on my PC but it's a great-looking game.
Framerate issues have barely even crossed my mind. As someone who suffered through Blighttown on PS3 where the gameplay was far more dependent on being able to control every moment and the framerate dips way worse, this feels like a triumph. Yes, everyone is universally in agreement that a stable 60fps would be an improvement, but I'd have to stretch to say it was really impacting my enjoyment of the game to a substantial degree, or even at the forefront of my mind at any point during the experience.
Generally the largest praise I can offer about the game is this: of course the rough-around-the-edges IQ, framerate hiccups, and AI issues are flaws. You'd have to be some kind of mental contortionist to tell yourself they're not flaws. Sure, sometimes Ellie runs past a clicker in a way that it should hear her. Sure, textures on faraway objects can get muted. Sure, comment about how the framerate should hold up better when there's a lot of effects on screen.
I don't care. The vast majority of the time the gameplay is tense, immersive, satisfying, and pitch-perfect. The vast majority of the time, the game looks spectacular. And the entirety of the time, the whole is so much greater than the sum of its part that I can't muster up the energy to let the blemishes affect my enjoyment of the overall experience. It's too good.
