The Last of us Part 1 launch trailer

It looks good but I don't see why they couldn't just make a Lost Legacy style expansion for part 2. Are they that out of ideas that they just need to remake a game that is almost a decade old and still looks good?

Guarantee that this latest trailer was from the PC version.

Lol ...OK then they probably used the native 4k mode but stabilized the framerate or added some post processing. Won't look as good at 60 fps on my oled. Calling it now!

Haha, possibly! Happy owner of an oled as well and I can definitely agree that 30fps is simply unplayable. 120hz and VRR are a godsend. I myself will be playing in the 4k40+ mode.

I can confirm that I've been playing the game for the last 2 days or so and the embargo lifts on the 31st of August. Stay tuned dear gaffers for the final word. And no, I am not allowed to answer any further questions or address anyone worries/concerns. Just a few more days, hang on tight to your butts.

I wonder how much better than this Part III will actually look like. Part II looked a generation ahead of Remastered, but at half the frame rate. This gen they won't be able to do that, as 60 fps at least as an option and 1440p or above are pretty much the standard.

I'll hang on to my butt so long as you promise I'll be peeing out of my butt on release day.

Yeah we get it it's pretty but it's another release of a game that was already remastered not that long ago and nothing else has changed it's the same cutscenes same original dialogue same story of game that not even that old
And? Why are you here if that's your view…we don't need the 35534783347804334 person saying the same thing…its a REMAKE not a REMASTER…

Hum...did you play TLOU2? You can play that game on PS5 at 60fps and it looks not far from this. And it's a PS4 game with no PS5 upgrade, just the framerate.

Question: Why did people gladly paid for Demon's Souls Remake but hate this one?

I feel like it's more about hating TLOU because of Part 2, than any other thing.

Just like the hate on Part 2, it's going to be so minor, that it won't even make a dent on the sales and success of this remake.

The biggest reason is the only way you could play Demon's Souls before the remake is if you still had your PS3, but with TLOU you can still play remaster version on PS5.

Demon`s Souls looks better than this. This uses TLOU Part 2 tech, not built from the ground up for the PS5.

Looks great, but from what we have seen, it could run on a PS4.

It uses 90% of the old animations, both for gameplay and cinematics (with the exception of facial motion capture)

They havent changed the soundtrack (DS re-recorded the whole soundtrack)

And most of all, DS really needed a remaster. It was an early gen game with so many technical problems. You could tell that FROM didnt deliver what they were trying to achieve in terms of visuals.

TLOU still looks damn good. The devs have fullfiled their vision back then, and despite being old, still looks great.

Jesus. Bringing up the very obvious, very clear upgrades of the Demon's Soul's remake in comparison to The Last Of Us remaster is something you want to avoid doing at all costs if your trying to defend it. The reason there's been so much negativity around it is because it's 70 fuckin dollars and apart from the resolution bump most people can't see any difference between it and the previous version.

Aren't launch trailers supposed to drop on launch date? So weird seeing something being called that when the game is still unreleased.

The price is meh but calling this just a resolution bump is disingenuous.

Why ya gotta make this a Sony fanboy thing?

Now I don't condone the name calling, but people disagreeing with you as to whether this game is worth it or not (to them) does not equal defending Sony.
Sony isn't being criticized as you state and also no one is attacking.

can't we all just get along stalemate GIF't we all just get along stalemate GIF
It's not just this thread. It's a trend.

You have to be legally blind if you think it's merely a resolution bump.

Maybe Bluepoint was asked first and they asked for a higher budget to do a proper remake but finally gave it to ND to just make scenes shot by shot and copy everything else (voice acting, soundtrack, gameplay) and slap 70 and be done with it.

Looks insane but it's still a remaster, why are people saying it's a remake? Resident Evil 2 was a remake, this is a carbon copy with way better graphics. It doesn't even have a dodge like part 2 which is a shame. I also think Demon's Souls was a remaster. It was an amazing upgrade, but it's the exact same game.

I was super skeptical after the first leaks, but now I see it's a significant upgrade. It looks at least a whole generation ahead of the original. I would say two generations, but the original game could honestly pass as an early PS4 game. I'll call it 1 and a half. It's definitely not just a simple port. The environments and lighting are very impressive.

I saw a comparison of the hospital between the remake and Part 2, and the remake honestly blows it out of the water. That put it into perspective for me.

Blind people: "Wait, I thought we already played this? Scenes, voice acting, soundtrack, levels are the same? Are you scamming me of buying the same game because I am blind?"
scamming into buying the same game I played before that I couldn't play before because I'm blind?

Fully remade assets for the game (and it's obvious), new character models based on the 2nd game, accessibility options, dual sense integration, stuff from TLOU2 like workbench animations, crafting explosive arrows, facial animations like only Naughty Dog can do (and maybe Red Dead Redemption 2), more graphical options than ever including unlocked framerates, etc...PC version about to be released based on this one as well.

In the end it's the perfect game to play once the TV show is out.

What it brings to the table depends on who you ask...but to me the release makes sense. Maybe not for everyone that played the game originally, obviously.
The PS5 brings "crafting exploding arrows"?
Sort of weak.

Make no mistake, the game looks great, but I can understand why two years into the PS5, the response to this game is a little mixed, all things considered. People want to see what the PS5 can do when a game is made from scratch.

There should be more of that and less of this, by this point in the lifecycle.

Yeah. Ok. It's got a frame rate boost. Big deal. The point is nobody was arguing about the Demon's Souls remake when it was released because it was very clear what the improvements were. There wasn't any fan boys going to ridiculous lengths to defend it's 70 bucks price tag. You know why? Because they didn't need to

Exactly! This shouldn't be just a little better looking than LoU2 it should blow it out of the water and should be blowing everyone's mind. It's Naughty Dog on a supposedly built from the ground up on ps5 game!

Pretty sure everyone agrees and everyone wants new great looking games. It is actually what I want most. A completely new AAA single player next gen console exclusive.

But it is kinda unfair to look at a studio that continuously delivers and their last game was just released 2 years ago and it was the pinnacle of the previous generation smashing everything else and then to expect them to have something ready in 2 years while most other studios deliver much much less.

The first step people have to do is to realize that going from 1080p 30fps last gen to 4k 60fps this gen will already devour most of the performance gains from the new hardware. Then people have to understand that consoles are closer to PC and even if we have a big jump in hardware performance it doesn't change the fact that the transition between hardware generations is much more linear now. Final Fantasy 9 PS1 to Final Fantasy 10 PS2 is not going to happen again.

Also where are all the magical PC exclusive RTX only games that blow everything out of the water by the factor 5 with the 3090 or soon the 4090?

From what I have seen in those trailers so far it looks like TLOU Part 1 Remake is the new king. I need to see for myself in real life on a big TV and not on a youtube video for final judgement since I have pretty good comparisons recently with Forza Horizon 5 on a 3090 on a 77'' LG OLED.

What were the improvements in Demon's Souls that TLOU doesn't have? I played that game btw. It's the same deal as this. Same core game with redone environments, lighting, models, etc. If anything, the AI improvements to TLOU remake might actually put it over Demons Souls in terms of improvements.

Here's the thing though, Last of Us 2 got boosted to 60 fps in an optimization patch but this was "rebuilt from the ground up for ps5" and only looks slightly better in gameplay and at times worse than Part 2 so the 60 fps eating resources shouldn't be that big a factor. Where is the next gen tech on display taking advantage of ps5 since its a rebuilt remake? No ray tracing. Demons Souls had extensive use of tesselation which helped to really make it look 'next gen'. Only thing I'm seeing here is cutscene quality having some next gen look to it in this remake. Cutscenes are not as important to me as gameplay and environments.

Are you serious? Gameplay was below 30 mess on the PS3. It is locked 60 on PS5. That alone is worth the asking price.

I think the criticism belongs to Sony, not so much Naughty Dog.

I agree that ND is bringing something impressive to the table, all things considered.

There may be some lingering feelings from games like God of War being cross-gen. People want PS5 games.

I played the game my guy. It doesn't have any improvements that TLOU remake doesn't have.

Does the TLOU have an improved character creator?
Has it got new weapons?
Has it got new armour?
Has it got omnidirectional rolling?
Has it got new weight limits?
Fixed boss glitches?
Has it got a whole new fractured mode?

TLOU has a speedrun mode. Man imagine the extremely hard working task of putting a countdown on the corner of the screen. 70$ justified.

Those micro expressions alone really help sell the emotional storytelling. It gives the characters a soul of sorts, instead of looking like an animated puppet. It will no doubt be a better experience for any first time player now.
