'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

An Uncharted Collection sounds great, the more games get re-release on PS4 the better, specially when they are so good.

This. Although the trend of charging full price is a bit iffy, Im onboard with the idea of picking up all of the top tier remasters as long as they are done well. I didnt buy/play TLOU (PS3) on purpose bc after it was so well received I knew itd be remade for next gen. Its a no-brainer. So I may pick it up day 1 (the GCU discount makes launch day purchases a little more palateable).

What exactly are looking for? It will look like The Last of Us but at 1080p and targeting 60 fps.

It's not like YouTube doesn't have 20 playthroughs of that game.

I want to see what the game is actually going to look like. The game is supposed to be a lot more than just 1080p and 60fps.

I think this argument is balls.

Exactly, it's baffling how some people here think the world revolve around them.
"I'm not interested in these remasters, therefore there shouldn't be any."

They make remasters because people want and buy them, how is this so hard to understand?

The game comes out in a month, it's not unreasonable to want to see exactly what we're paying for at this point. Especially when ND keeps talking about how incredible it looks. Seems odd to only show off every spoiler from the game and just a few seconds of actual gameplay.

I would agree with you if we were talking about a new game. But this is not a new game, this is a late port to a new platform.

Don't buy it if you're afraid it's not going to look like The Last of Us, there isn't even a pre-order incentive.

Of course, but normally you would just want to move your old PS games to the new system instead of switching between the two for certain games.
And Sony wants to have a cheap console for the mass market.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Props to Sony for dropping the price to $50. It's a better deal in that regard. I do feel that $39.99 would have been the perfect price though,

Oh well, unlike other people complaining I do recognize that if I don't like the price I don't have to buy, but I'm buying it!!!

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I agree... As I said, it's a standard, it's about perception and my brain parsing something. I didn't say it makes it more or less serious. I said it adheres to a visual style that communicates something other than film, and more to the point something other than high-production values.

I also said that trying to adhere to these standards has a mostly adverse effect on games/gameplay and that with some time the standard; that 24/30fps institutional norm, can be subverted by games.

So cheers for calling me an elitist hipster, when I have mostly the same opinion as you.

I apologize if I was rude. I didn't mean to put a label on you. It's just the general, out of context message that I read from your comment that recalled the many times I've heard that argument made by fickle, finicky people when referring the actual game's/film's subject matter.

I'm not mad at them for ditching their esoteric architecture to generate the situation we have now where games are easier to make and the hardware is still plenty powerful. They chose not to include extra hardware to keep the price down and I'm fine with that.

Wow. The tweets from the ND guys are raising my expectations a bit.

At first it seemed it was going to be 1080p@60fps, with cutscene models, High Res textures, and some less blocky shadows.

From what they are saying, we may indeed get more enhancements...
It's what I'm thinking too. They must be adding more graphical effects.

I'm not either, I just think being able to play everything on one system like we used to (or do with the WiiU) means just as much to demand for these as improved graphics.

Is this a rumour or just a wish ?

I've sung this song at many a Sony/Naughty dog forums and threads. I'd love and would wait for a complete Naughty Dog Collection. A series specific one is great for some and a complete collection would be a hell of a collection to own.

My other wish is for Naughty Dogs multiplayer staff to take over the SOCOM license.

People have always loved seeing the games they like get released on better hardware. The only difference to me is that the lack of BC on most modern consoles gives people a reason to call it a conspiracy, when the truth is that a lot of us (myself included) have been clamoring for an update to this game since we got our hands on it. When I buy a Wii U next summer in anticipation of the new Zelda, I fully intend on buying Wind Waker. I'd also pay full price for a remake of MGS1 made using the engine from MGS5. I love these games and would like to experience them again. But hey, I have disposable income, so maybe that's why I'm not bothered by it.

I'm not concerned about it not looking good, I just want to see it in action for myself. Like you said, it's a late port to a new platform. There's zero reason not to show off the gameplay at this point, and a 2 minute video of the game in action would do much more to hype up the remaster than a video compilation of the game's cutscenes. It's not like the cutscenes didn't look great on the ps3 already, go ahead and show me why this version is so impressive. The selling point for this game is that it's one of the greatest games of all time with better models, a much higher resolution, and all at twice the framerate. Why not show off the actual features of the remaster instead of spoiling key scenes from the game for people who haven't had a chance to play it yet?

never in my life i've seen a port from one platform to another in the spam of a year or less.

Twilight princess, GTAV, TR? (and others I'm sure I'm not thinking of)

I'm also in camp that is concerned about and hates the soap opera effect 48fps The Hobbit has and TLOU E3 trailer had...I love this game so much though and am getting the PS4 version day 1. And my hope is that with the gameplay being 60fps (which I love, 60fps gameplay is great) I'll adjust and not find the cutscenes so jarring and unpleasant (which is the only part I'm worried about looking so off).

Doh. Should've read the post above.

Yeah, that will never happen.

Let Blue Point work on the trilogy and help them by getting them the improved engine. Release next summer in time for part 4 during the holiday season. Makes sense, no?

My question isn't whether or not they are good at hyping their game. I was specifically asking what someone was looking for.

I can understand it when talking a remake or something which has a change of artstyle or has to use new assets in characters and environments, I just don't understand it with a better running port. I just don't understand it. :p

Didnt they say the engine is structured so that it is very difficult for people work with it outside of naughy dog, i thought that was the reason they did this remaster themselve. Cant find the source anymore but iirc that was the reason.

benevolent sexism
Though their desire for them is affected by the fact they can't play the games they own at all on the next gen systems.

They were fully aware of that fact when they purchased the next gen systems and/or decided to get rid of their old one. No one is being coerced into anything here. So often there seems to be this undercurrent of "I am a gamer and I am obligated to own everything and buy everything that is offered woe is me I am so abused by these corporations."
