'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

it was my goty last year and probably gotg and i plan on double dipping. the game already stands on its own and doesn't need this. the amount of "omg 60fps...we are awesome" seems weird to me. i'm going to say i am in the "don't tell me, show me" camp.

please do tell me exactly what it says about me. thanks.
You make it sound like this is Sony putting out ads boasting about it. You're only seeing this stuff because you're either following specific ND staffers on Twitter, or coming to this thread.

The two things have nothing in common too. Sony chose what to show, not ND programmers.

Today I saw someone playing it at Video games story (a vg exhibition in Paris). It looked decent, clean image but nothing more. Don't expect something totally different from the ps3 version. The framerate looked 30ish to me.
If there's no pics then it's bullshit imo. I think Naught Dog is keeping this close to the vest for a reason. I've heard from people in the know that it's going to absolutely blow people away when they finally see it in action and all this "it's gonna be practically the same" bullshit will go away once and for all.

Well, I was quite surprised to see the game in action in the Sony booth, unless they hid a PS3 in the middle of the PS4s, TLoU on PS4 was well displayed on the show.

I didn't pay much attention much because :
a) I'm not interested in the game since I completed the game 3 times already and I had no intention to replay it anytime soon.
b) I had no idea ND never released any media for the game as the game is supposedly being released next month (which I find a bit worrying).

Otherwise I would have taken pictures and waited in line to play it.

The question is PSnow or not ? It looked sharper and crisper, and we, European peasants do not have access to PSnow...So who knows ? Seriously, I hope that u guys are right and the game will deliver.

I'm not either, I just think being able to play everything on one system like we used to (or do with the WiiU) means just as much to demand for these as improved graphics.

when is this bullshit dogma dogma going to stop?

backwards compatibility is not the norm, it is the exception.

only the ps2, wii and wii have had BC, and for the wii and WII U (only BC for the last gen, you can't play gamecube discs on the wii U)

the reasoning that "only less than a handful of consoles, so if every other console doesn't have it, THEY ARE A FAILURE" is so idiosyncratic and close-minded that most people don't even bother to argue with that, which i did, which probably makes me an idiot, i agree.

end in point, consoles are closed proprietary devices, just like ALL closed proprietary devices, and if they can't support games or apps that exist on older platforms, so be it."

that one quote from phil spencer about BC was 100% correct. if you really wanted to play all your old gen games on your current console, just buy the goshdarn old console. other wise buy the new console.

the only exception is the PC, which even then, has some problems with windows OS compatibility (some game even require you to run ms DOS or xp or whatever to make it run properly).

end in point, BC is an amazing convienience, but nothing to complain about if you don't have it. it's the food equivalent of complaining that you can't have caviar for breakfast every morning.

I think it's fine to complain about it. Just be mindful that you're speaking from a very minority perspective.

If b/c was as important as the next leap in graphical fidelity the PS4 wouldn't be selling as well as it does.

The uptake of the PS3 when it dropped b/c from their models to reduce the price showed that people don't think it's worth the cost, and that was PS2 b/c and not PS3 b/c which at this point in time would be more expensive than PS2 was back then.

Hope you're right, but your claim sounds an awful lot like insider talk.

im inclined to believe the guy saying that saw the game, ive said it before many times, the fact that ND is not showing anything of the game being played is weird, all we have gotten are tweets and everyone gets super exited about that, uploading a gameplay video online is not expensive, shit if free, capturing some gamleplay is rather easy now a days so the excuse of marketing budget or time is not cutting it, i have the game preordered but im gonna hold on the pick up until i see some real footage from someone

You really don't think it's odd that he's saying he saw it being played at some random event no one has heard of before when it wasn't even at E3 and they're clearly still working on it? It takes quite a while to get a playable build together and it seems like ND is just focusing on getting it done.

Is it really worrying that ND/Sony are not dedicating any resources to promoting a remaster of a game whose reputation completely speaks for itself?

"Oh why don't ND just spend 5 minutes capturing some footage and put it online?" Because PR controls everything, even things that we might consider trivial. Tweets are probably the most they can get away with.

I'm inclined to believe that an event billed as being about FUTURE HOMES in Europe would probably entail exhibitors showing services they'd offer in the future in Europe.

Like PSNow, for example.

I'm with you on this. I really don't think ND would be tweeting about how exciting and game-changing that TLoU is running at 60fps only to have the gaming running closer to 30fps.

They don't have to. Doesn't mean they shouldn't.

Sorry to the guy that posted this but it's just quite a hilarious set of circumstances lol.

and that's the reason many times we get the shaft on lots of games, do you really think ND and any other game company for that fact cares about gamers? this is a business, of course they are gonna hype their own game, its scary how some people believe game companies actually care about gamers and their input, we are money to them, them not showing the game is weird, only time will tell

He's not lying, at least not entirely. May be he saw people play The Last of Us PS3 version on PS4 through PS Now? I have heard people say a few games on PS Now looked crisp and sharper on the PS4 than playing it on the PS3.

The logistics of how the service works would make this impossible.

Random playable demo pops up at a French gaming expo with no fanfare or coverage whatsoever 1 month before release? I'm not calling bullshit but I'm calling bullshit.

You're shocked that a game is being played at a closed event one month before it comes out?

When the developer has kept it almost completely under wraps outside of 2 trailers? Yeah, I think they'd make a bigger deal of it being playable.

Looking at the ND tweets, I am sure they are not hyping the game up to try and confuse the consumer because the game in actual fact runs like a dog or looks like shit.

It is slightly weird there has been no footage until now but getting all paranoid as to the reason's why is a bit silly.

It's still 4 weeks out from release. If this was still the case 1 week before release. then I'd be really concerned. Until then, people need to be a little more patient.

I was referring more to the second quote, you're free to believe the poster honesty, I decided to do so, for the last time I'll say it, it is very extrange that for a game of this caliper, even tough is a rerelease we haven't had any GAMEPLAY demonstrations at all, just remember how many videos of tomb raider DE flooded the web weeks before release and that got people exited because the game looked great, many double dipped because of this, if you have such a great product on your hands than show it, look at the metro redux games, their were not at any big conference but they did the rounds at the sites that were present at E3 showing them their game, IGN had a great video of the dude explaining all the changes made to the games and what not, that's my point, the game is coming out in 4 weeks and change and all we have gotten is a short teaser, a few minutes trailer and a bunch of tweets saying how great it looks and runs, well, if you're so confident than show it, like I said, my copy is preordered, I loved the game on ps3 and I hope, dearly, that I'm wrong, I hope that their port ends up being as good as they are hyping it

Once again, I'd like to remind everyone of the complete and total lack of information on multiplayer until the weekend before release last year. Have some faith in ND.

At the current rate this thread is going, I wouldn't be surprised if ND releases a new video this week. GAF jumping to conclusions (dreadful ones) is not good business for any company in this day and age.

They are probably shocked because it is a French media event. Good ol' everything should to America first lol

Is the thread exploding because some random junior exclaimed that he saw the game running at some small French convention and it looked 30fps even though all the ND tweets so far claim 60fps?

Am I missing anything?

I too hope that the port turns out well. The reason I brought up the ND dev tweets is that I could imagine some backlash if the game doesn't run as smoothly as they have been claiming. Maybe it's knowing how they're tech wizards when it comes to producing great looking that I'm taking their word for it.

Maybe I'm just naive but I really want this game to run as smooth as they've been claiming. Not having played the game before I'm coming in fresh with this version. Hope it impresses me as much as Tomb Raider:DE did. I also came in fresh to that game.

I'm also really excited for that Metro: Redux set coming in August I believe. That's another one I skipped last gen. Good times ahead.

E3 was only a few weeks ago and this was apparently only there in trailer form. So yeah, it'd be very odd if it all of a sudden popped up at a much smaller event. You'd think that Sony would make it known that it'd be there given that people have been wanting to see some raw gameplay of it.

not to mention Sony sees TLOU as a system seller, which it seems to be.

What would Sony's roadmap for PSNow in Europe have anything to do with it? Companies often demo products way before launch, and there are no hardware reasons they couldnt have a PSNow server in Europe or even at the event.

I believe the guy who saw it at a french expo and that the game is looking a little bit flat. Sony didn`t show it at E3 (very wired), they didn`t show us any gameplay material at all (not even a pic, even more wired), despite promising many graphical improvements like better textures, shadows, lighting and other stuff. That stinks a little bit to be honest. If it would look nice and effort went into it they would be proudly show us their great work.

Seems for real the project was just a quick resolution and framerate bump despite their lofty claims.

Tidux says it could well be announced at gamescom for release this year and that its running better then the US version as most of europe has a better internet infrastructure.

So it could well be up and running,

take that for whats its worth,

We haven't gone gold yet.
We're still making updates to live code every day.
I, at least, can tell the difference between the PS3 version and the PS4 version from the opening sequence of the game.

For shows, Sony almost certainly have special servers locally, to avoid basic things like network congestion. Probably a PC wired up behind the scenes. So you could show it anywhere in the world. And I think Sony have talked about rolling out in Europe 'soon', so why not show the tech?

So pumped for this game, purposely skipped it on Ps3, hoping that it was Ps4 bound....

and we now have 2 x Ps4 begging for this game to come.

Don't know how I have managed to avoid spoilers for this long

PS cutting things a bit fine with release in 4 weeks ?

I am pretty sure that the guy saw the PS Now version of The Last of Us, it is upscaled to 1080P on the PS4 so it might seem sharper and cleaner, but of course the framerate stays at 30 fps.

Some one from Sony, I don´t recall who, said that there will be news about PS Now for Europe at the Gamescom and I am 100% sure that it will be playable there and will be released early 2015.

I didn't get to play the game since I didn't have access to my PS3 for a while. I did get to see how the game is through some play through on YouTube. Still excited for it and glad the remaster is coming. I wish I hadn't played GTA V on 360 but I commend all those who had the nerves of steel to wait for the ultimate versions.
