I think I'll start off at a cinematic 30 while I get the juices flowing, then start working my way up to 59, and then explode in a 60fps mess.

Photomode has me so unbelievably hyped, like, more hyped than I was before. I said it when I first tried it in Second Son, I'll say it again: Photomode needs to be in every first party PS4 game from here on out.

I've lost track of how many hours I've dumped into Second Son's photo mode. I'll end up putting poor Joel into some ugly situations just to get the perfect shot and I know there will be a number of times that I start up the game to play a bit, then stop an hour later with barely any progress made other than a couple dozen photos.

So guys, are you gonna fap at 30 or 60 strokes per second when you get the game?

Better question: At what frequency will Raptor choose to stuff the game into his ass?

Just found out about the 30fps mode. I think it's good to have options. I know I usually prefer the LOOK and FEEL of 30fps and I know a lot of you like the look and feel of 60fps.

I hate it when people flat out say that 30fps is wrong or is not a design choice.

30fps is a preference of mine, so for those who say 60fps is better… it's better TO YOU, but not in my eyes. 60fps looks and feels like a cheap arcade game instead of a high quality AAA game.

I just want the highest difficulty setting unlocked right from the get-go so us double dippers can jump right in into it without having to beat the game a second time on Hard before having to play it again a third time on Survival!

Anyone else feeling the same?

"There was an internal debate just over the artistic-ness of going 30 or 60, and whether or not it would feel weird. Pretty much every person who had said, 'I'm a 30 Hz person, I don't know if I could play it at 60.' When they finally saw it, they said, 'Nevermind, I'm convinced.'

It's just sad that even developers think 30FPS is somehow a better experience. I'm glad that some people at Naughty Dog finally started to push for 60FPS. More devs should follow.

All difficulties are unlocked from the start.

They're all unlocked.

Pretty much every person who had said, 'I'm a 30 Hz person, I don't know if I could play it at 60.' When they finally saw it, they said, 'Nevermind, I'm convinced.' We do so much with the animations of the character to convey emotion to the player so when you talk about what's going on with Joel and getting the player to empathize with him. At 60 frames, seeing his breathing change, or when a Clicker shows up and you hear that sound and the way he moves changes, because all the animations are that much more fluid, I think that comes across even more now. That's going to change the play experience just a little bit in the way the players experience that."

"We up-resed textures, we also turned on various graphics features that, on the PS3 we could only afford to turn on here and there in certain spots where it really offered bang for the buck, and in some cases those are turned on across the board now, like the bounce light from the flashlight," Gregory said. "There's better anti-aliasing. Just a host of graphical improvements that bring a lot of crispness and additional quality to the look of the game."
Wasn't expecting that!

Your high quality AAA games are only 30FPS because that's what they have to aim for to push the graphics. You could say that's a "design choice", but it's really all about making better looking games (more effects and shit). And they are willing to sacrifice half of the frame rate to achieve that.

Fortunately for me, most games are released on PC now as well so I can experience them just like I want them to be. High settings and 120fps. So if more games start being 60fps on console, I'm all for that for when I want to play some exclusives.

Hell to the yeah! My one question about TLoUR was if we'd get to play the higher difficulties without having to beat the game once. An important element for someone who's looking to double dip like me! And guess what? Evan Wells replied my question on Twitter!

Gaf what are your thoughts on a 60FPS standard?

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-last-of-us-remastered-devs-discuss-making-60fp/1100-6421147/

Why is 60fps important?

"It was a toss-up before; people were saying that you lose quality and graphics and what not," Gregory said when asked why Naughty Dog feels that it's such an important component for the game. "But being able to compare apples to apples like we have now with The Last of Us, going back and playing the 30 Hz version feels, to quote some people in the office, 'broken.' There's something that can't be captured in screenshots and playing an adventure game where you just walk around and experience the world at the smooth 60 Hz. [Editor's note: throughout the interview, the Naughty Dog team used fps and hertz interchangeably] You really just have to feel it."

"There was an internal debate just over the artistic-ness of going 30 or 60, and whether or not it would feel weird. Pretty much every person who had said, 'I'm a 30 Hz person, I don't know if I could play it at 60.' When they finally saw it, they said, 'Nevermind, I'm convinced.' That's going to change the play experience just a little bit in the way the players experience that."

You'll be able to see the difference yourself soon enough. In addition to the stream of comparison videos we'll be putting together, Naughty Dog director Neil Druckmann mentioned on Twitter, "Since some people asked for it, we added an optional 30fps mode (gameplay & cinematics). My pref is 60fps all the way."

Will 60fps become the new standard in games?

"We hope so," Gregory said. "It used to just be that first-person shooters were 60 by default, but a lot of other games didn't feel the need for it. I think we're showing that it does make a difference even in a non-FPS type game. And one question that's been fielded on Twitter as a follow-up to the 60 Hz, is whether or not we're always at 1080p. Some games have been doing the whole adaptive resolution where they change the resolution based on what's going on. We are always at 1080p."

Can't you guys just wait until sunset to bring out the insanity?

Don't worry, I'll be going to bed soon ( I work nights), so in about six or seven more hours I'll be on here while drinking coffee and maybe a little whiskey. Shit is going to go down.

Or I'll just lurk and occasionally get pokey with GAF's concern squad

Can someone explain the photo mode to me please? I don't own Second Son so I don't understand how it's any different than just holding the Share Button. What does this mode offer that the built in capture feature with Share Factory can't accomplish?

Well, in Infamous, you can turn off the hud (sounds like you can in TLOU too) and then move the camera around in real time. You can basically move the camera round , at any angle from any perspective, choose your depth of field, different camera filters, etc. It was awesome in Infamous, I dont really know how it will work in TLOU.
