I understand that you don't understand, but look at it this way: Most people here are not only passionate about games in general, but also have a collector's mindset. Imagine that you're favorite movie is Aliens but you're stuck with the VHS version of it. Wouldn,t you love to have the latest blu-ray version with pristine IQ and 5.1 surround sound?

It's PERFECTLY normal wanting to have the best version possible of your favorite media, wether its games, movies, music, books, Etc. And if it is the best version of your favorite title from your favorite hobby... its also normal to look forward to that more than anything else.

Its not about the resolution, its about having the best version possible. ;)

But that is what I am saying. It's normal to want the game, I have nothing against it. But is the same as having 5 Oscar winning on the cinema and then the remastered version of Alien and you say "I don't care about any other film for the rest of the year, I just want my aliens!"

You understand what I'm saying? It's totally weird, no matter how much you love the game.

I really hope they don't hit dat 60FPS, because all the cinematic flair will be gone.

...so I don't have to buy a PS4....

I'm honestly excited for the tech analysis just to see if you'll actually buy a PS4 if it happens.

Well, I played the original and thought that it would've been an amazing game, if the framerate would be stable...so...

Still, my life is changing faster than I can watch at the moment. I don't know how much time I've left playing games in my life. Probably not too much.

Just sort of hit me now and so I have decided. When this releases I get a ps4.

Why not start the new generation replaying the game I enjoyed most from the last.

Haven't play TLoU yet...will wait for the remaster. How excited should I be?
I think you're pretty lucky. I'm normally a PC guy, but I booted up the PS3 one more time for The Last of Us, and while it was the greatest gaming experience I had since RE4, some of the technical issues absolutely affected my overall enjoyment.

There are jaggies you can cut yourself on, but the worst offender is everything shimmering whenever you move around. Just lots of very noticeable (to me) visual artifacting, not to mention that the framerate could be best be described as unflatteringly "cinematic".

The Last of Us: Remastered will be fucking magnificent. Even if they don't hit the targeted 60fps, anything north of 30 is a marked improvement. The 1080p and (probably) improved AA should fix the IQ issues. It would be great if they would use some kind of temporal antialiasing method, like Infamous.

I haven't played this game, but the impression that I get of the plot is that it's a
vaguely Of Mice and Men-style plot in that it involves a long journey, actions along the way that the characters regret or don't wish to do but need to given the circumstances, and then ends on a note that at first seems hopeful but then becomes a massive downer
.

Is this accurate, at least in general terms?

Agreed wholesale. I didn't play it on PS3 as that was my PC phase and I couldn't bear how it looked for being such an awesome game. So I saved it. And I think it was worth it.

I'm aware. The poster I was quoting said they sold their PS3 + game disk and just wanted Sony to look at their trophies. There is no way Sony, or anyone for that matter would use that type of system.

You're right, looking at trophies is not a good method : If you lend the disk to someone who didn't purchase the game, they would got those trophies without having paid a dime for it and therefore would be eligible to an undeserved discount

I haven't played left behind, so I'm wondering if that is significant enough to make this worthwhile?

I fucking loved the main game, played through it twice on release before trading it in off my PS4 preorder. In addition to all the other things TLOU does perfectly the hardest difficulty option almost transforms this game into another genre completely, which is just downright amazing game design imo. I wish other developers did this more often, hard modes are usually just lessons in frustration, but TLOU's required you to take a different approach.

It's not very long, two or three hours maybe, it's nice back story, and with the warring groups, maybe a little look at what's to come with TLoU2, but I really don't think it's worth anything close to $60, and apparently it's locked until you beat the campaign anyway.

Ah, that is stupid! I played the main game and wanted to play Left behind as prequel to replaying main story on PS4 again.

Thanks. If it's a good 2-3 hours, combined with a campaign replay (that I would do anyway just to see how pretty it is) I think it may be worth it. I think I'd like to own this permanently after having to trade in the PS3 version.

Has anything been said about whether we will be able to play PS3 players in the MP? Because that would be fantastic.
I doubt it. I would assume they tinkered with the multiplayer component to make it work on next gen. Probably things like higher tick rate and such. At least now the community isnt divided by dlc maps, I never got those on ps3 even though I got Left Behind.

TLoU a super jagged game? Visual artifacts and low frame rate? Did we play the same game??? I swear some of you GAFers are so jaded and impossible to please. If you think this about arguably the best looking console game of the generation I don't know what can you consider good....

I agree.

I think these people must not calibrate their TVs.

I hate to tell you, but the best looking console game of the generation can still have a ton of jaggies, a framerate that rarely holds its target, and an image that shimmers like a mirage in the desert whenever you move.

It's the limitations of 9 year old hardware, Naughty Dog did the best they could. But the system held them back. That's why we're getting a Remaster.

It's the best looking 7th gen game, but it still has low framerate at times and jaggies.

I calibrated my TV as soon as I got it. I still saw jaggies.

TLOU is indeed a great looking game but not without its faults, this is due to the aging hardware and the game does lack a good anti aliasing solution and the frame rate can get very bad sometimes, did that affect my enjoyment of the game? of course not but im not blinded by its greatness to say that it was perfect, that's the reason im looking forward the ps4 version because im hoping that all that get corrected with better hardware, oh and by the way IMO the best looking game of the last gen was gow of war 3, to this day nothing gets even close to the first 30 minutes of that game, or the fight against cronos or the ... so many memories

AA is dynamic in TLoU. It sometimes shuts off entirely.

Maybe from a technical standpoint GoW 3 is better (better AA, framerate, etc), but outside of Kratos' amazing character model, I thought The Last of Us was a better looking game. It had better lighting, a lot more detail, all the character models were great (everyone who wasn't Kratos in GoW 3 looked vaguely plastic), a much stronger and cohesive art-style, more--and better use--of color.

Plus in The Last of Us you can control the camera and get up close to things, whereas God of War's world is always held at arms length and isn't nearly as interactive.

That being said, GoW 3 is definitely a stunning game.

Pre-order Bonuses
  • 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode
  • Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after you complete the single player campaign
  • Increased Crafting Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
  • Increased Healing Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
  • 9mm Reload Speed Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign
  • Rifle Clip Capacity Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign

This shit bugs me. They're essentially releasing a glorified GOTY edition of the game yet they're locking off a lot of features you're likely to see in a GOTY edition to pre-order customers. One of the big appeals of GOTY editions is that they're usually made to attract people that didn't play the game the first time. It's just backwards.

Everything outside of the bonus skins is completely meaningless and stuff you would get from simply playing the game normally anyways. The reload speed, clip capacity, crafting and healing speed, for example, are just normal upgrades you get in the game, you just get them right away instead of upgrading them yourself. It pretty much has no effect on anything.

I mean, the actual selling point of this game is it's on the PS4 at 1080p60, with upgraded graphics. Not useless crafting upgrades or barely any XP for multiplayer.

No good multiplayer games currently on the ps4. That is why I need this.
the campaign is great too, but the multiplayer was fresh and satisfying for me

Anybody think the multiplayer will be more popular on PS4? I thought it looked fun as hell on PS3 but never got around to trying it.

I like Blacklight Retribution, but The Last of Us Multiplayer is the game I hope everyone jumps to. Even if your not a Naughty Dog fan, Uncharted Fan, etc.. The multiplayer is something I want everyone to try.

And please play it on Survivor Mode, each player has one life per round without any respawns.

I jump into respawn modes to get a rythm going if I haven't played in a while then go right into Survivor mode with no respawn. Caring for the life of your online character because there is no other life after until the next round is the only way to play.
