Ok I just finished up and missed one of the last lines because the wife was yapping.
Ellie asks Joel if everything he said about the fireflies was true. What was his answer?

Joel just killing the shit out of everybody. I didn't mind it to a point then there became a time when I was wondering if it was all necessary. It really gave me weird feels the last 1/8th of the game or so.

Joel swears that he was telling the truth about the Fireflies encountering a lot of other virus-immune individuals, but being unable to create a cure.
Also, I agree, Joel is definitely an anti-hero. I've met a few people who enjoy his hateful and selfish actions, but I can't identify with him at all. He's way too evil.

Joel: I struggled for a long time with survivin'. And you- No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for. Now, I know that's not what you want to hear right now, but it's...
Ellie: Swear to me. Swear to me that everything you said about the fireflies is true.
I'm so glad I has able to experience this game for the first time on PS4 instead of PS3. You really get the whole package and it's just an incredible piece of work by ND. I was afraid I wouldn't like having to scavenge for supplies all the time, but you get used to it and it makes it way more intense. I can definitely see myself replaying the campaign numerous times, loved everything about it. MP is also a ton of fun with friends, more so than I expected.

I just set my VT65 to HDMI RGB Full mode, and did the same in the PS4 settings. Realised I don't actually need to change anything else. Only one part of the game (the demo level, the rainy sky scraper area) was really washed out, and for that segment I switched to RGB Limited with my TV (leaving full on the PS4) and it mostly did the trick.
Rest of the game with both my TV and console set to RGB Full seems to be just fine.
At first I thought the whole game was washed out with all set to RGB Full, then I realised it just seemed that way because I'd gotten too used to the crushed black intensity it was originally set to.

there really wasn't any other choice he could make I think.
He loses his daughter and then for 20 years doesn't let anyone come close to him, then he meets this little girl who finally does but is told she is going to die as well.
S while he may be the anti-hero I think his intentions are really understandable.
Just finished my second playthrough. Unbelievably amazing game. Well worth every penny for the PS4 version even having bought the PS3 version at full price.

A knife to the neck of the doctor though? Marlene? The writing near the end didn't exactly play out as I had hoped but I am one of millions of players and can understand the writers went this way as it is most likely what would happen in real life. Just wanted more feels.
Okay, I met met up with Bill 45 or so minutes ago and my opinion's went from "This is okay, I guess" to "Wow, these encounters are getting pretty godlike"

I just popped in Dark Souls for the PS3. I've recently played GTAV for the PS3. Infamous: SS had a 30 FPS cap option. None of those games looked like TLoU:R at the 30 FPS cap. I play on my PC with variable framerates all the time, some games like Arma III only get around 35 FPS, DmC was 60 FPS, Dark Souls II is 60 FPS.
TLOU:R has very weak camera rotation blur compared to Infamous (haven't played DS2 or GTAV) but it's unfair to single the game out like that considering that a ton of other 30FPS games didn't even have any camera blur at all. I do agree however that they should have adapted the blur strength to be higher in 30FPS mode, as that's probably how the PS3 version was.
To me it seems like he knew they would search for her and he made sure they wouldn't.
I guess no-one else really knew that much about it so...
That was kind of fucked up though.

Yeap. Game starts off amazing (intro level) then drops off from the beginning to something quite slow, and then gradually builds up again, getting more and more exciting and intense as it goes on. All the better given that it's quite a long game, with great diversity in events, locations etc.

When I'm not experiencing daft AI, gamma issues, or flashing textures this game is absolutely god like in 1080p 60fps. It's just such a well crafted experience. I'll never understand people who find the combat boring, it's extremely satisfying.
Such a shame ND dropped the ball on the polish. Have they said anything about fixing the issues?
"another person I know"? Did you actually play the game?
And there's no benefit to humanity in letting a bunch of crazy people open someone's skull. On the contrary, you'd be negating the best part that's left of humans in that world.
It's wasn't guaranteed at all. There's no way to know if it'd even work, or if they could even pull it off properly. And even if it did, manufacturing, transportation, mass coverage etc, all extremely difficult. Not to mention it'd put one party (that I don't particularly trust) with all the leverage and power.
I got like waay into this game and played 6 hours on Thursday but I haven't touched it since. I feel like whenever I go back to it I will binge in a similar fashion and finish it on out.
Careful with the spoilers without tags please guys
God this game is way too good, I can't stop playing! I'm forcing myself to stop because I know I'll finish it tonight haha.
This is better than I imagined. Despite the flawed remastered edition (too many low poly/low res elements, bugged areas) this is a masterpiece that made me like the zombies/infected, like RDR Undead Nightmare did in another style. I definitely prefer to kill humans, I like the way they behave (great IA, even if I'm on a low level of difficulty) and how you can use the level design to make your tools and weapons kill the ennemies.
Gameplay is one thing, 1) storytelling, 2) artistic direction and 3)soundtrack are another ingredient to create a true complete experience.
1) Great actors, both during cutscenes and outside of them. Joel/Ellie or the others, they're all great and enrich the way they story and the background (with is sparse*) are given to the player. It reminded me at the beginning of the Cuàron movie "
Children of Men
" (not a big spoiler).
You don't know that many things about what happened, how other people or countries deal with it since the Oubreak... You really feel like the protagonists (especially Ellie).
2) So many details, the world just feels natural, it is a true journey into an apocalyptic US world. It's all about the details and the landscapes. When you're not fighting, there are the two things that keep you entertained and fucking spellbound by what you see!
3) And dat sound design...It's goddamn perfect! My 5.1 headset is fully optimized. The soundtrack, mostly the main theme and derived sounds from it, allows you to be immersed in the skin of Joel or Ellie. There are some amazing moments where I was scared or subjugated by what I heard.
I kind of like to explore the levels but I think I missed (at the beginning especially) a lot of artefacts and conversations with Ellie. I don't know if I took a real
The photo mode is maybe a better drug than the game itself (despite, here too, not enough creative tools and cool thinks like bokeh imo, but it's still pretty great).
I'm at 13h of play, during the [late game spoiler people]
winter, after Ellie's fight against David, when Joel is entering the town. I guess I'm not far from the end. I thought Joel was dead when I saw Ellie alone in the snowy woods, but nah, it would have been too simple. Now I think the end of winter isn't far. It reminded me A LOT Assassin's Creed 3 and the hunting sessions in the Frontier during the winter.
I really hope the end is far and I hope it's great otherwise I will need TLOU 2 the next day.
But I know I'll play it right after on Grounded to learn how to play, even if it's real hard, I want to try and enjoy the full experience.
And I have to try the MP too. (if it works and if I can find people to play with
I arrived at the ghost town after I had met the black guy and his brother...the town where a sniper shoots at you from inside the house, perched in the second (third?) floor. Please tell me that I am still a long way off from finishing this gem...I just want the experience to keep unfolding. My favorite thing about the title is not the graphics, the animations or the dialogues. It has been the level design (ennemies' encounters) and the brutal feeling to combat.

Don't know if they improved the audio, but my God, the sound design is the best of any game I've ever played. Just, absolutely immaculate. The effects, ambient sounds, weapons, friction sounds, clicks, clangs, moody rain, the creepy, haunting, beautiful sound track, the clickers, runners, even the flashlight etc clicking from the Dualshock 4 controller speakers is an awesome touch.

I'm not 100% sure because the PS3 version sounded really good as well. It's definitely the most elaborate sounding game I've ever heard, the level of detail on my Beyer T1s is absolutely insane. There's also no issues with volume levels which is a god send coming from garbage like Wolfenstein and Infamous.
I just finished both the game and the DLC. So what now? Where could they go next in a potential sequel?
I can't see how could they go for a different scenario, different location (Europe?), different characters and so, and keeping the story on the same level. I mean, Ellie is
the only person who is immune
, so the plot now revolves around her, but imagine TLOU2 with a similar plot. It wouldn't be as good, because it'd be more of the same.
Other way they can follow is to keep the story of the first game, but what's next? The game just finishes with
them in the middle of nowhere and it's obvious Joel doesn't want Ellie to die in order to create a vaccine
.
So, how can they make a sequel and still feel fresh? Follow the same story or a different setting?

Perhaps it would be interesting to play a conflicted soldier (Following orders and maintaining stability vs moral obligations) who witnesses the outbreak and tell the apocalyptic story from his perspective.
I would say that a good part of the emotional impact of the game gets lost if you don't have children.
Not just on the main narrative but in the gameplay. Every house is family home and its always moving to walk into the kids bedroom.
That is how I related. I just had a baby girl myself 3 months ago. This being my first time playing through the game, it all made sense. If I had played this a year ago, I may feel differently.

Once you get use to the enemy AI and the layout of the levels it gets easier. I thought grounded was much easier than what I expected/heard of. Stealth kill as many enemies as you can with the fewest amount of resources and just take it slow if you find any part difficult.
