The Leftovers S2 |OT| We're Going To Texas - [Renewed for 3rd and final season]

What were we supposed to get from the Erika Nora confrontation? I didn't understand the motives of that scene

She's hellbent on proving that there wasn't a second departure. Her husband and kids departing was real. So was many of the others in Mapleton, NY. There are the fakers out there too of course and Nora's aware of that. With the move to Jarden she wants it to be perfect. The phone call going off the deep end gives her ammunition to belive she's not a lens. Doing the interview is her last step to finally secure in her mind that the 3 girls didn't depart and simply rsn away. As we see, that backfires in her face.

Edit:

This is the first episode of this show that I watched and I didn't even get what was going on, but holy shit i was hooked. That last 15 minutes.

I didn't get that last part, was it Nora who threw the rock at Erika's house at the beginning?

That's an odd way to start watching this show.

It's her. I had to watch it a second time. She's indecisive about throwing the rock and then has a perfect strike through the window.
Why did she do it? Either because of the way John treated he brother Matt who banished himself to the camp or because she's irritated by the scrutiny of being investigated for being a lens.

Yes, they showed her throwing the rock just before the opening credits.

AV Club summing things up well.

The Leftovers just won’t stop kicking the rest of television’s ass

Even people who haven’t quite warmed to The Leftovers have to concede that this is some of the most interesting and significant television of the year. And if you’re an actress who is not in it, I’m not saying give up on your dreams. I’m just saying maybe give up on your dreams.

edit: I'm convinced HBO brings this back for a 3rd season. There's no way they see the quality of this season and think otherwise.

The episode was really good, and I don't think they've had a stinker this year at all. Even the episode about Laurie and Tommy dealing with their diffused, post-cult life was something I didn't expect to enjoy, but found interesting as hell.

Serious props to Perrota and Lindelof. I didn't think this premise had steam to make a solid second season. Glad to be VERY wrong. And the cast has largely turned out to be incredible, capable of grounding the fantastical aspects of the story in ways people (I think) can digest. I literally have no idea how this season can wrap up or conclude. I guess it will involve getting some insight or movement on the disappearance of the girls, Mary's health, and Patti's ghost. But maybe none of those things will be resolved.

One other thing regarding how the season wraps up, it just occurred to me that the GR is likely directly tied to why Tommy has gone missing. Yikes.

The show keeps on delivering, but I really hope there's some endgame in sight. Don't want this to be Prometheus/Lost 2.0.

I have yet to get into S2. Is it any better than the first season? I dig the story, but it did feel like grief porn at times.

I'd argue that it's set up for precisely the opposite. S1 ended perfectly, we found out just enough, and if that was it for the series, I would have been completely satisfied. I suspect season 2 will end in a similar way.

I loved season 1, so maybe don't take my word for it, but there have been tons of folks coming into this thread just completely amazed at how much better S2 is.

Season 2 is much less sad, but still interesting
While it might not be as nihilistic as season one (in special regards to the GR), the second season is probably (hyperbole-alarm! ;-)) the epitome of sad television. If he thought season 1 was grief porn (I disagree), the episode from last week for example will be very hard to watch.

JFC that was intense. Honestly when Nora just started dismissing Erica at the end, the tension was palpable. Props to the actresses for really swinging it. I frankly surprised that Nora even made it out of the house. There's no coming back from that with respect to a such a colossal misfire short of Nora and Kevin finding those girls safe and sound....

Whether Ghost Patti is actually her or some other entity taking her form, they've been pretty clear that it is actually there and not just in his head. It knew where his phone was and the dude on the pillar could see her.

She knew where his phone was because he was sleepwalking during the incident and saw it fall there himself. The dude on the pillar couldn't see her. Kevin was visibly talking to himself and the pillar dude was asking who his imaginary friend is. I wouldn't be surprised if she's real, but so far there's no evidence.

I thought it was Fargo S2, but this is right now the best show of this year, and something like I never really saw ever. The feelings we got from those episodes are unparalleled. There is no way HBO will cancel this even with the low ratings.

I really loved the first season, but this is something else... Let's just hope it keeps delivering until the finale.

Come on. She directed him straight to the phone like a radar, despite it being completely buried in the middle of a giant river bed. Nobody's memory is that good.

This and Fargo are easily the best shows on TV atm. Can't split the 2 at the moment but both are brilliant.

I always thought the girls fell into the crack that drained the water in the lake. I thought some characters would bring that up by now.

I remember seeing something crack-ish in a shot, or a sinkhole, but ultimately the water had to go somewhere. I figured the girls had been pulled in by it while Kevin was kept in place by the cinderblock.

I thought it was implied that the girls vanished from inside the car. I'm pretty sure it was running but the doors were locked, but now I don't know if I'm remembering incorrectly.

That close up of Regina King at the end during their conversation...you can feel she's ready to unleash hell at a moments notice.

This show almost lost me after the first two episodes of this season. Last couple have hooked me right back in. Hope they can keep the quality up the rest of the season.

Holy shit this episode. Best show on tv and some of the best acting on tv ever. Just incredible how much the quality of this show has propelled this season.

Best show on tv right now. There. I said it.

It's flirting with Breaking Bad levels of greatness.

Hi, my name is Darscot and I'm addicted to Carrie Coon, this doesn't get a third season I'm going to need a meeting. All kidding aside this show is killer and the best thing on TV right now.

Holy Molly what an amazing episode. I like the way they are tightening up the lose ends. The bird scenes really intrigued me and now we know the reaaon. Seems like after all we wont be getting another lost.

Props to the actors doing a great job and story helping them at it.

Certainly Breaking Bad levels of tension. In addition to the Regina King/Carrie Coon scene this week, I almost couldn't watch when that woman relapsed into the Guilty Remnant and crashed her car with her whole family in it, and for some reason, when John reached into the garbage disposal in the first episode.
