ANN:

The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Friday that it has licensed The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky. (Eiyū Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki) anime. The company will release the video anime digitally with a home video release following later this year.

Masaki Tachibana (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, .hack//Quantum) directed the series off scripts supervised and written by Makoto Uezu (Katanagatari, School Days, Utawarerumono). Atsuko Nozaki (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) designed the characters at Kinema Citrus (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, .hack//Quantum), and Emotion produced the anime. The two Blu-ray/DVD volumes shipped in Japan in November and February.

The original Nihon Falcom role-playing game franchise that inspired the new anime has sold more than a million copies and already inspired a promotional anime DVD bundled with the manga version. XSeed Games is releasing the Eiyū Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki game trilogy under the title The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky on the Sony PSP system in North America; the publisher shipped the first chapter in March 2011. Nihon Falcom celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.

I was going to make a troll thread title like "More Trails In The Sky coming to the US" but even I couldn't dare do that. :(

How much spoilers are we talking here? It's one of the good narratives as gaming goes enough to give a shit about it, so I'm blackouting if any SC and beyond is in it.

The OAV episodes are about 1/2 to 3/5ths of SC.

... they don't really touch on FC or 3rd at all. Just a part of SC.

So is this like a different anime series or something?

It's the right cover art on the post. (That site is the forum for the cable network run by Sentai/Section23)

...so I imagine that they're just trying to use a title that isn't what Falcom's used for however many years with the 'Eiyuu Densetsu' title. 6.6a

(I usually don't get this anal about titles, but really?)

I don't understand. I mean, a game adaption of an already text-heavy RPG? It has potential, but I honestly don't see any merit for anyone not to play the actual game instead. Unless this is being used to bridge the gap between people who only watch anime...? Mmm, okay.

It doesn't even go through the entirity of SC, actually.

Let it be said that this is NOT a good substitute for SC, at all.

It doesn't even attempt to cover the whole story and in fact ends before even getting anywhere close to the finale.

It also changes things substantially.

This is honestly just very strange.

Now now guys, don't worry, they'll announce that this is just a compliment to the game, that we'll be getting fall 2012.

;_;

Just the fact that it's coming stateside is good news in my eyes. Cause we got the Tales of Vesperia movie and then we got the announcement of ToV PS3 right after.......................
please :(

Funimation has tied the releases of Sengoku Basara, and Sands of Destructions with their North American game releases so don't give up hope! Believe in Sentai and XSEED!

I found the OAV to be very disappointing with how it changes events and glosses over critical stuff. It absolutely does spoil stuff in SC though.

The whole thing is very puzzling to me. First how the OVA got made in the first place - it could only hope to be appealing to fans of the game, but then it hacks up the story in a way that wouldn't seem satisfying for said fans. Then why Sentai licenses it - their only hope for an audience is fans of the game in English who are starved for the lack of SC, but they don't even bother to standardize their terminology. Just... puzzling all around.

That's like saying all anime adaptations of JRPGs have no merit.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
This anime might not be such a good thing if it scares people off from an otherwise excellent game. Plus, the fact the anime screws with not just the title but character names as well, is misleading in regards to what the anime covers and is being released prior to an NA Trails SC release makes this all the more worse.

Even the anime.
The wound of waiting for sc isn't closed and every week there are news on falcom goodies (ys vita and nayuta) but this anime is almost trolling for fc fans.
Sigh
