The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky PC |OT|

It's Persona 2 all over again. *weep*

Damn it, game... why do you have to be so charming?

Its pretty cool that each NPC has its own side story.

If you pay attention to two of them in Bose, you will discover a hidden sidequest. And the conclusion feels so good because of some reasons.

Curious to know which NPC you're talking about. Just arrived in Bose.

I believe you mean kanzi.

Anyway? Sword Art Online's title is 朝立少年物語インターネット.
As you should know, the even number characters are how you write Joshua in Japanese and unsurprisingly the odds for Estelle.
But that is only part of the sham that is 宇宙の季節 stealing from SAO. Joshua's hair is 黒猫, and Estelle's is いつでも敵をミスしちゃう少女. Just like the protagonists of SAO.

I won't even bring up your sword and dagger argument, because I think my knowledge of kanzi has won me this argument.

Regardless, now you know.

I forgot how long the prologue chapter is. Especially if you go talk to every NPC after each event. Stupid OCD...

I was doing this and had multiple save files, being pretty thorough (or so I thought) and guess what...I still missed chapter 1 of Carnelia. WTFWTFWTF.

Oh well, this long weekend should be good for just sitting and making progress. Hopefully I don't miss any more chapters though, they're expensive and my party is pooooor. =(

It's best to use a guide for those books, the window to get them is sometimes so small it's rediculous.

I had the guide open after the chapter 1 mishap...and thought I was in good shape. Turns out I missed chapter 3 as well and I had to reload my save lmao. So now I'm set back a bit and out 1000 mira thanks to chapter 1.

Apparently Blind counts as the same type as Petrify. How stupid.

So I've been playing this game for a bit and am enjoying it. I tried playing with controller first, but switched to mouse only with the occasional 1-4 on keyboard for the S-break and must say this is way better than with the controller.

So when is Chapter 2 coming out again?

Do we even know what sales are?

Number-wise, no, but we know it was the #1 seller on Steam for most of the day upon release, and that peak players are around twice as high as the maximum for any of the Ys games.

EDIT: Nope, make that about three times as high.

I have to assume that my compulsive need to talk to hundreds of NPCs is at least part of why Aeana is always making fun of me for playing RPGs slowly.

Achievements seem a bit buggy still (like the Orbment slots one) but the game seems pretty stable.

Sadly I'm still getting occasional crashes. However, they always happen at the end of fights, either right before the victory music starts playing, or (sometimes) during the self-destruct phase of the last enemy killed. The Sapphirl Tower was especially a pain in the ass; had four crashes from fighting creatures in the treasure chests, AND ran into the chest that you can't exit conversation from if you check it after it's empty.

(On top of that, the crash causes the sound card to get caught in a loop of playing a sound, of which the only way to fix is to reboot. That tower took far longer than it should have as a result...)

Ah ha ha, I'm starting to save my game just on impulse whenever I enter a new area or see a lone monster off to the side of the road, minding its own business. You know those guys are always trouble.

Read up a bit about sidequests around Bose and I see at least two that aren't even hinted at unless you go out of your way to trigger them.

Hope you're sending those crash reports to Sara. This sounds different from the crashes that were eventually patched. Does turning off Hires Fonts or Hardware Vertex Shading improve anything for you?

I haven't been sending crash reports; I don't know where to send them, honestly. I'm currently running with high res fonts off (I turned them off after the first couple of crashes), but haven't tried adjusting the other setting yet.

It's been #1 on GOG since its release too, and still is.

It's weird that this hasn't been fixed yet, Sara is usually lighting quick with her patches.

No offense meant, but GOG has a much smaller user base (orders of magnitude smaller even).
(It's good that it's selling there, true, but you really can't compare this to Steam sales).

You can send crash reports to support@xseedgames.com. If you're playing the Steam version and the crash created a .mdmp file in the game folder, please attach that as well.

I usually roll my eyes HARD at this type of stuff but in this case it's handled well I think.
It feels very genuine and it's worth seeing how it turns out.

The how and why of this game is what works, not the what and when.

Lemme guess, it was the
lunch sharing scene
wasn't it, Shahadan?

Made almost $2 selling the card drops. Figure they will only keep going down in price so I might as well sell them now.

Anyone have a good button layout for an Xbox 360 controller?

I posted my layout a couple of hours ago on the Steam forums, so I'll just C&P it here:

Using an Xbox controller, I've found this layout works well for me:

A: Confirm
B: Cancel
Y: Recipes
X: Bracer Notebook
Start: Area Map
Back: World Map
LB: Rotate camera left
RB: Rotate camera right
Click right stick: Show location

Without using any external programs, that was the setup I liked best. There isn't really any way to make it control exactly like the PSP version did, and "cancel" and "menu" have to be mapped to the same button, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Cancel/Camp being on one button is inherently going to make any controller layout feel wonky. Instead of trying to use the in-game button mapping I just mapped my controller (Wii U pro, so very similar to 360) to the keyboard. This is kind of weird, but it's working better for me than I what I was trying with the config options.

Using 360 button labels for simplicities sake.

A - Talk/Ok
B - Cancel/Camp
X - Run
Y - Cancel/Camp

Start - Bracer Book
Back - Recipes

LB - Show location
RB - Zoom Map (area map)

LT/RT - Camera rotation

Right stick also has camera rotation mapped to it, and up/down are both world map.

This seems like it works pretty well, doubling up on Cancel/Camp basically lets me use those buttons/functions more naturally than having them on the same one. Ends up with an extra button that had to be mapped to the stick, but world map is good for that since it's not something you need to use often.

Got hit by a bug when you check again a chest after a Robber Trapper fight in Saphirl Tower 5F.

The games simply stops but the music continues playing.

Just have a couple of questions: Is there a point in buying books and reading them, and is there any reason not to sell my old equipment?
Also while I'm at it, are there any general tips that I should keep in mind?

I know I could have googled this stuff, but I'm deathly afraid of spoilers. Didn't even read any of the other posts in this thread. ;_;

Apart from the achievement(s), if you get all the the chapters of Carnelia you can trade them in for something nice late in the game.

Thanks, I'm assuming I'd need to look at a guide laden with spoilers if I were to want to get all the chapters?
Edit: Awesome, thanks for the help

Nah. There's a guide on GameFAQs that has a Carnelia section in the appendix. Just search the file for "CARNELIA CHAPTERS" and you'll find it. There's no spoilers, but keep in mind that the time windows for many of the chapters are EXTREMELY tight.

So Joy2Key is the only way to use a dpad?

Depends on your gamepad. If you have a MODE button to switch between analog and digital, you can just press that to toggle between D-pad and analog stick at will -- all the Logitech PC controllers have this, and the DualShock 2 had this as well (it was labeled ANALOG), though the DualShock 3 and 4 do not.

Just bought the game and have read through a most of this thread. Has anyone come up with a fix yet for the neon/duplicated intro video? I assume that if I'm having this problem with the opening I will have it with any subsequent FMV's as well, right?

Right now I'm playing at 1080p, Anisotropic texture filtering, high-res fonts, and no 30FPS limit.

I know that Xseed is hard at work squashing bugs with this game, but I haven't seen any recent mention about the videos. What is the cause of this issue, anyway?

Edit: Ah, okay. Looks like the only current work-around is running in windowed mode. I guess I'll have to wait for an official fix, as I really do prefer playing fullscreen. I've tried other resolutions too, to no avail.

Playing in 720p fixed the problem for me, but if it helps I think there are only a couple in the game. The falcom intro and the op right after meeting Joshua. They are both in the Trails steam folder if you want to watch them.
