What's the easiest game at the casino?

Poker. You can only bet 10 medals but it's easy to stack the multiplier. My highest was over 6000. Currently have 150000 medals and nothing to use them for.

Just finished chapter one to discover I missed the
Sunday School
mission. I've been insanely thorough about backtracking to npcs so missing that really stung. I's have to go 3 hours back though so screw that, second playthrough!

Did anyone else take 18 hours to get to this point and still miss this much?

Not in 18 hours, but in 12.9 hours.

Ended up missing Sunday School too.

Shame too, it sounded cool. Damn you, rigid time limits!

Yeah. I don't really like Estelle that much, but she has great reaction faces.

For me it's the dialogues between Estelle and Joshua, but it's been a while since I played FC so I'm not sure. The world is more interesting to me. I can't even remember the story.

I don't hate her either, I'm just not a fan of plucky female characters like her in general. The "I'll beat you and you and you up oh boy I'm so mad" shtick gets old reeal quick.
It's better than the stupid meek "I'm sorry!!!" Garbage that plagues every other game.

Oh absolutely, definitely better than that

e: Something like 20-ish hours in, just started chapter 5. Looks like I'm going through the story a bit faster than expected, maybe I'll even finish the game before next weekend.

Agreed. Estelle, like Trails as a whole, is such a welcome break from the other games & RPGs I've played over the years. She reminds me of Garnet from FFIX, although I'm not entirely sure which I prefer.

She's great.

Man FUCK the (Chapter 2 ending)
five worms. I didn't have Kloe in the party since Olivier is my jam, and Shera only had La Tear, let me tell you how much that fight sucked. Tita is useless in that fight, and she didn't even have much to add story wise and I still had to drag her along. Plus the worms never got close enough to do either her or Olivier's multi-target S-Crafts. I ran through so many foods, and healing items it was ridiculous, with Tita dying all the damn time. I didn't remember her sucking this much in FC. Plus I accidentally used a Zeram powder in the fight. GRRR... This fight had me so annoyed I checked a guide. What does it say, nothing but that the fight is easy. Fuck you, no it isn't.

Also, how does one go about getting more EP, is it just level based? I honestly do not remember, but a lot of spells I have take a TON of EP, especially the high level healing ones. I've already picked up EP Cut 2, but yeesh.

... that's a meme?

I mean, I wrote that version of the line (and it's very close to the Japanese, tbh), I essentially wrote it years ago, and I will be honest, I have no idea what meme it would be referencing.

If anything, if it shows up in MGS5, that writer and I were probably referencing the same broad concept.

But hey, if people want it to be an MGS5 reference... that's cool too!

While "played like a fiddle" is definitely an old proverb, Ground Zeroes delivered it with gusto.

Yeah, I hate having
Tita
in my party. Hell, I wish there were some sort of inactive-character leveling system in this game,
because in Chapter 4, I've just been teamed without choice with Kloe and Tita - Both of which are positively shit in terms of level. Kloe can help, of course, but Tita is a waste of system memory.

Welp, good to know I'm gonna hate my life again.
I think what I hate most is the fact that she has like no range of movement. I had to give her Olivier's Range orbment just so she could actually hit an enemy with her ranged fucking weapon. I suppose she woldn't be bad if you knew that a boss coming up would have a certain weakness and had a ton of minions so her AOE would be useful in a boss fight. Or if you could target an individual square with her attack. But nope she just sucks.

Alright, so I'm getting wrecked by the prologue boss on hard, but I feel like it's possible, and I won't dishonor my family by restarting on normal. I need a strategy gaf.

If I space my characters apart I can get him to waste turns running between them (maybe taunt would be useful there?) If I do that after starting the battle with 2 morale-boosted scrafts I can eventually get him down to about 2500. Problem is he starts healing then, and Estelles impedance craft seems to do nothing whatsoever. Will he eventually run out of ep?

Should I bother grinding for that second green quartz for anal lice? The boss seems immune to impede, and I'm not sure how useful sylph guard will be.

Next, should I keep one character clocked up? It's hard to tell if it's worth it.

And finally, what's the best way to use my 200 CP at the beginning?

Forgot that these games are compatible with SGSSAA. Set that up and it looks lots better. I was bummed that the other downsampling methods didn't work with the game.

Re: Chapter 2 boss, I wonder if that one's easier when you're paired with Agate. The key is to avoid hitting multiple enemies (triggering their special) knowing they're due to hit, instead removing them one by one. My Agate build was crucial in this respect; doesn't Schera have an Arts-based advantage here, though, because of the boss's weaknesses?

Having Kloe along for the battle (my scenario) makes it a deal easier, since then you can tank any hits/Arts, wait for a turn buff (+ buffing characters and/or debuffing enemies), and then unleash Chain Crafts out the wazoo. Tita feels a bit like dead weight, but she has Vital Cannon to use if you can keep her alive. So maybe what the developers had in mind was Earth Guard-ing her (and/or buffing defense), having her use the last 100 of her CP gauge for party healing, while you take out the first enemy. The upper two enemies also like to converge after a few cycles, so that would be a place where you can get more use from Tita. Her movement range is balls, sadly; Chapter 2 gives you good opportunities against mooks to use her Crafts, but the end boss resists blinding, so...

IDK, the battle was an improvement over Chapter 1's boss fight in that it made me restart when I realized my errors. The atmosphere to that whole place was frightening.

I don't hate her either, I'm just not a fan of plucky female characters like her in general. The "I'll beat you and you and you up oh boy I'm so mad" shtick gets old reeal quick.
Difference in SC is that the villains she meets are so overpowered that (especially re:
Walter
) her taunts become pathetic, as they're perfectly understood and admirable. Otherwise she's got shades of a WD Popful Mail-type character, at least when sarcasm's the obvious choice.

I'm posting this here because it's an active thread, but I'm playing FC and I'm running into a really annoying bug. Is it a known issue and is there a way to fix it? Very often, I find that the descriptive text display at the bottom bar of the inventory menu simply isn't showing any text. So when I'm picking stuff from the inventory, or select equipment, there's vital information about what the items actually do which isn't being displayed. It's really annoying! Help!

Sometimes using the mouse to navigate the menu will bring it back after reopening it (mainly playing with 360 controller here). If you're already using m+kb then I got nothing lol.

Really appreciate how the music sets a different tone for this game. Quite a few songs during key story scenes just give entirely different vibes than anything from the FC soundtrack. Good use of music in general.

And as someone who doesn't really care much for stories in games, I like how this game handles tropes well for the most part, and doesn't do anything stupid. Still have some gripes, but they are all pretty minor and some may even end up resolved.

The music is one of the things I'm more negative about. I felt there was a lack of variety in FC's OST, and there's been no change to the tunes that reappear in SC's OST. The new additions are welcome, but so few and far between that I struggle to give it anything more than a pass overall.

Luciola's
costume is fecking dumb.

I love how plainly overpowered
Agate's Wild Rage
is.

Yeeeah, FC and SC seem to get a ton of praise for their soundtracks, but I just don't see it. There's a song or two that's good, everything else is super forgettable. Then again, I could be subconsciously comparing the music to stuff like Final Fantasy, so of course it seems dull in comparison.

Anyway, nearing the end of chapter 5. Thank god the plot is finally starting to pick up. I'd enjoy this so, so much more if I actually LIKED the characters lmao. Goddamn it game, give me more Kevin and Olivier.

Just finished Chapter 4 here at 23 hours & Bracer level D. Any idea how many chapters there are overall?

I feel like the characters are the best thing about the Trails series. Characters and dialogue. The main plot is generally kinda meh but thr characters make it for me.

Question actually.. I'm sure it's a spoiler but I don't mind knowing.
when does Joshua return to the party? I've seen screenshots of him in the group so i know it happens. I guess what chapter would he easiest. I mainly want to know bc I love the interactions between Estelle and him.

Yeah, and this is obvious to me also so I WANT to really like them. I'm trying, but I just don't care what happens to anyone who's not Kevin or Olivier. I don't hate any of them (well, maybe Tita a bit), I'm just incredibly indifferent about most of them. Maybe I'd like the cast more if Estelle wasn't the main character - she's the one I feel most meh about, and practically all character interaction the player sees revolves around her.

Kinda find myself rooting for the bad guys right now, they're all deliciously smug.

Still excited to give Cold Steel a try when it comes out, though. New cast and all, maybe I'll like them more and I'll finally see what it is that makes the Kiseki games so special for so many.

At least in FC, I loved all the interactions between Estelle (I love her as a character, so we differ on that right away), Joshua, Olivier, and Schera the most. The other characters were decent, too, but those 4 were my favorite. Kloe was another one I enjoyed.

If you REALLY want to know:

End of Chapter 6.

Thanks. :)

Doesn't Fate of the Fairies play during the first prologue boss? Pretty sure I've heard that at least once so far, but maybe I'm mistaken since I've heard the song before playing the game.

Edit: Youtube comments good for something for once, person there says it did play during that boss.

I know Square Enix Music Online/Game Music Online's review of FC details why the site editor prefers FC's music over SC's, and it's mainly because of the variety. But I'm not sure it's as experimental as Chris thinks, since the jazz flavor doesn't seem to gel well once you get to know Liberl better. The world you explore is definitely at a crossroads in history, so I guess jazz is somewhat fitting but also out of place. And there's plenty beyond that, as he explains, but I think he was just really tired of Gagharv-style Falcom tunes around that point. They posted that review nearly a decade ago during peak readership, so it's one of the wellsprings of SC's hype.

On GAF alone there's a variety of opinions on the first two Kiseki games' soundtracks, most in moderate favor of them (and the battle tracks for sure) but others are more extreme. So I don't get why they "seem to get a ton of praise" when the spectrum's more complex.

Most of them are tropey as hell, but I still love almost everyone in the cast with the sole exception of Tita. I don't know, maybe I just don't like kid characters or loli stuff.

That's kind of surprising, actually. Tita breaks the mold on kid characters quite a bit by being generally smart, productive, good in battle, and never sexualized or anything like you see with a lot of the more modern "loli" characters. I guess it's just that she never plays up the fact that she's a kid -- she just happens to be younger than everyone else. I like her a lot because of this -- she and Kloe are among my favorite characters in FC, as they both break their respective molds quite a bit and really shine.

I agree about Tita. I normally roll my eyes or mash through dialogue from kid characters in games (like Ys Seven Elk) but Tia is a real genuine character. That, and I crack out a chuckle every time I use her S-Craft lol

In other news, the only bugs I encountered were:
1) Massive frame drops in areas... I'm not sure what causes it exactly, but it happens consistently at the same areas
2) There's one dialogue box with the
Lighthouse owner
where they offer "three choices" but the second line bleeds into the third, so you can't actually tell what the third choice is.

some questions,

- I'm missing two monsters from the prologue, how? I'm sure I killed every monster I saw. also are there shining poms during the prologue? That might be one of the two I missed. edit/ apparently they're found randomly together with other monsters, ugh. and it seems like I missed the ones in the prologue already. is there an achievement for killing all of them like in FC?

- is there a list of shining poms locations during the chapters? Also looking for the list of the complete fishing book and how to get each fish, trying all the combinations more than once in the hope to catch something new seems like it's going to take A LOT of time.

- is Heaven's Eye bugged? I don't see enemies in the minimap. ''information'' doesn't work either, you need that in FC in order to fill the monster book, maybe they changed something in SC or maybe you need to kill the same type of monster a lot? I have 5 or more kills on some monsters but still no full info.

Been trying nightmare, and it's been handing me my ass. The enemies' health is pretty reasonable, I don't feel like it's been upped(I think I played FC on hard? I don't remember), but damn if they don't deal shitloads of damage. I think it'll be more managable later with more party members and orbments to work with.

not sure how can someone not like Tita. she's way far from being the clichéd annoying useless kid and as Estelle said "Anelace would probably faint from how cute she is".
they really did a nice job with her writing.

kids deserve some praise in this series, Claire is hands-down one of the best npcs.

speaking of other characters, I picked Agate and I'm not disappointed, he's now actually playable with the ''free'' +150CP craft. he's also much more tolerable in dialogues.
can I hope for Tita being buffed too? She really needs that.

2) There's one dialogue box with the

same here, I saw a lot of other people having the same issue.

it should be better later on with more party members and skills, but eh, good luck getting there.

I agree that it's refreshing to see that she's not sexualized in any way, add the fact that she's smart and knowledgeable in technology (a role which usually goes to a male character). But I guess my dislike for her comes mainly from my personal taste in kid/cutesy characters in general.

Kloe, on the other hand, is one of my favorite characters. She's kinda like Joshua in a way, so she complements Estelle (
which is mentioned in the awesome auditorium scene in chapter 1
). She has that pure, innocent, strong willpower kind of thing going on, so what's there not to like?

One of my favorite NPCs (going back to FC) would be Matilda, that girl sitting on a bridge in Ruan, just thinking deeply about stuff.

Finished Chapter 1:
Bleublanc and Olivier should totally sit down and have a drink sometime.
