I already owned FC on UMD and both FC and SC on Steam, but I went ahead and bought the pair again on PSN to finish off the spend $100 PSN campaign.

Early chapter 9 spoilers... Is my game bugged, XSEED? Anyone? I don't know.
I've just met Josette and offered to help her find her brothers, but the next area (or what I assume is the next area) can't be opened via PC without a Gospel. So I went to the big bank building in order to try and create one for Joshua (his surname is there after all), but I completely lose gamepad control, and can't go past E in the list. There's no option to scroll down with a mouse, either.
Am I just doing something wrong? No spoilers, please!

For some reason you can't select the middle initial with the keyboard (and presumably a gamepad) but you should be able to select it with a mouse. It's just a bit fiddly because of how thin they are. You can only choose between A, B, C, D and E, though. There are no more. Middle initial has to be one of those, along with one of the selectable first names and surnames.
That section doesn't seem to be bugged or anything, though. I've just checked it with the current patch version and was able to get one issued just fine.

Just got the giant text bug at the same part in the xseed blog, only "total weirdo" was big font which made me laugh

Yup. I really loved that XSEED kept that in. Gives more expression to their dialogue.
Yeah, that's one of the bits that got changed. There being giant text there isn't a bug, that's in the Japanese version too, it's just highlighting the wrong thing. You could probably get away with it if not for the fact Olivier's response is something like 'Was it just me or was there far more emphasis on the first part of that than the second?' despite the giant text highlighting the last two words of the sentence.
But yeah, in Japanese it's basically saying 'You can trust his ability with a gun, but ONLY THAT. Otherwise, he's just a weirdo.'

Couldn't you have just altered Olivier's response to reflect the structure of the English sentence? Then again, I don't know how much trouble this bug actually caused you.

I guess not much media on this? Had to have a friend let me know this was out. But bought and played the first 30 minutes. I can already tell I'm gonna enjoy getting into the groove of this one.

Is this available on PSN through a PSPgo at least, or only through Vita's PSN?
I think the PSP store is still up in North America, isn't it? In which case, yes, you can absolutely download it from any PSP, Go or no.
And even if it isn't, you can always download it onto your PC or PS3 (or PS4? I don't know if PS4 and PSP communicate at all) and transfer it to your PSP from there.

The character interactions in this game are really always on point.
Cassius returns at last. And he seems to know something about what Olivier's motives are (yet everyone else just lets this drop without really registering). That was a good scene (and one that would be completely missable if Kloe was in the party instead of Olivier, I guess).

I think I might need a good refresher summary for FC, I forgot a lot of things already. Will the game provide a lexicon or can anyone recommend a summary?

I kind of feel the same, except I'm afraid to google things for fear of spoilers. I remember the main plot, but some of the side characters are hazy.

I posted one in the OP. It's quite extensive so just skim through parts you remember unless you want to spend ~4 hours getting a REALLY good summary of the game, haha.
It really wasn't all that bad once you got past certain point. Out of sight, out of mind and all that. It was only the occasional "Where's Second Chapter? Is it dead?" thread that reminded me of how Second Chapter was still nowhere to be seen. Something like waiting for Winds of Winter is far worse because we have the constant news about & a yearly season of the tv show, so you can't really escape it in the same way that the non-news about SC made it easier to just forget it for long periods of time.
It took far longer to read through than 4 hours. It has, like, 70 chapters and an individual chapter wasn't especially short. That's like a short-ish book in itself. D:

Man, I almost got my ass kicked by some treasure chest monsters. That wound up being a very long fight with me needing to revive characters at least 10 times.
Still playing through FC. Currently @ Chapter 1 going to

I'm planning to purchase SC sometime next week though. Are there any major differences between PC and PSP/PSV version aside from patches? I'm leaning on going the portable version since I have long travel times and I only use my PC to play DOTA 2 and do programming stuff.

I went PSP and it's fine. That being said, differences are: PC has better resolution, uses PS3 version's graphics, has the empty chest messages like FC PSP/PC had.

Anelace's reaction to meeting Tita was just hilarious. Such a perfect little character moment, and I laughed quite a bit at it.

There's one in chapter 3 that was really hard. Up until a certain dumb battle it was pretty easily the hardest thing in the entire game.
And it doesn't have disc swapping, which will likely be nice later in the game when you can apparently roam between regions.
Okay ahaha, glad to hear I wasn't the only one thinking that.
After they went out their way to put that little 'If she ever met Tita, she'd probably faint...' line in the prologue, I was eagerly awaiting a scene like that. Was great that the scene delivered when it finally came.

Minor text issue that has probably already been reported. Description text for Robber Trappers says they use fire-based arts, but they actually use Wind arts.

Yeah.... It's a shame they couldn't combine the digital release into one download. That being said, the psp version does have one advantage other than portability; it doesn't have achievements

I'm with you on that, actually! Fortunately, you can disable the Steam overlay for the Steam version, or just play the GOG version offline, and you won't have to worry about them.

Put the game on Hard because I found FC kinda on the easy side until the end and wanted something a little more challenging.
It took me 3-4 hours to beat
so that was pretty tedious, but otherwise I'm having a blast so far.
Time for the game proper to begin.
Even though I have SC right now I'm somehow still mad about the ending to FC, even a year later.

Last time as a "regular citizen", the queen push her to think leadership-wise, plus "oh btw, I totally tonsil boxed your boyfriend in front of you, we're still friends, right?" scene.
I just figure since he's passed muster with Cassius, then he's in the clear for much of their work.
Yeah after chapter 2 I feel like SC is definitely a bit more difficult on Normal. Not hard or anything. Of course I did play FC 4 years ago but I recall it being way easier on Normal.
Can anyone drop a quick comment on Cold Steel's difficulty?

Chapter 2 completed with about 23 hours on the clock.
This game is basically fulfilling all of my hopes and dreams.
The conclusion was pretty cool. Zane showing up in the nick of time was pretty awesome. I had a feeling he might have been showing up soon based on one of the NPC dialogues at the gate prior to the final story scene, but it was cool to see him arriving and saving Estelle, and to get some hints to this past that he, Walter and Kilika share. I feel like there's quite a story there. The scene where Tita asked to come along was really sweet, too, especially with Agate's protective feelings towards her. He's a big sweetie at heart.
And that sparring bout between Cassius and Julia after the end of the chapter was cool, too. It's nice to see Julia again. And also the reintroduction of Kanone. I fear that she's going to cause a lot of problems for everyone.

I can live with that. It would be nice if we got HD graphics too but I won't sacrifice HD for portability given my lifestyle. I just hope I can finish both games before Cold Steel comes around.

Plus we can enable bilinear filtering on PSP games through the Vita, not that I know what that does.
I'm going to write it up at Windows Central soon. PR asked reviewers not to start playing the game until Monday the second due to save-related bugs, not that I can see evidence of a patch having dropped.
Same. In my case though, I'm loving the battles but it's my desire to seek out and talk (sometimes twice) to every NPC within a 50 serge radius when any of the major plot characters so much as sneeze that's slowing me down.
Also work.
