The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC |OT| More Olivier Than Ever

Wow, that's probably the worst translation I've seen in years. Reminds me of the manga translations where it went Japanese -> Chinese -> English. I wonder if they're translating from the Chinese port of Zero :|

They have some Japanese -> English translation, some are Chinese -> English based on youtube videos, some are based on different translation guides. It's a conglomerate of translations from everywhere.

However, it's not edited in any way as of now, and the priority is to translate first before editing/QC.

It's probably machine translated. Most attempts at fan translations nowadays are.

Editing won't fix a fundamentally flawed translation, especially if its machine translated as it looks.

I don't really have high expectations for fan translations. When one turns out good it's a nice surprise.

This isn't really a series that fan translations would be suitable for, unless it turns out to be one of those surprisingly good ones. And that's unlikely due to the size and complexity of the games. I'd like to play the Crossbell games, but I doubt I'd bother with fan translations for them.

Lol. I finished the prologue in SC and started the first chapter. The plot scenes have gone full Xenogears. Roflmao. I like how while the player-centric tone seems to have undergone a sort of reset to bring Estelle back to basics for the start of a new adventure, the background tone is very much consistent with the end of FC. The world has changed, and the expanded scope of ShitThatsHappening(TM) continues to unfold. Cool stuff.

WTF are you talking about? Outside of quickly showing flash backs to the last game to refresh the audience which didn't happen in xenogears you can't compare xenogears story telling method to trails at al.

The length itself isn't insurmountable, fan projects of similarly sized visual novels have been done. But the programming, image editing, and such that an actual game requires makes it much more complicated. And of course the presence of shitty machine translations discourages people who would actually translate the game properly from bothering, we'll probably never get a real Nayuta no Kiseki translation now.

So what's this Sunday school quest you can miss? Is there anything I should watch out for to make sure I don't miss it? A point of no return?

Yes. Late in chapter 1
before you go to investigate the academy, check the guild. Once at the academy it'll be gone by the time you get back.

Edit: I don't know why I bother spoiling tagging, nobody else frgging does.

I'm not sure how telling someone when a side quest is available counts as a spoiler.

The thing is, you should spoiler the name of the character.

Exactly. I know everybody knows that that particular character is inevitably going to be in the game but it's not obvious at what point they'll join you and I think it's unfair to post it openly without spoilers. Personally I'd be pretty angry if someone had spoiled finding that out for me.

The game came out less than a week ago. Pretty much any information someone might not want to know counts as a spoiler, imho. Honestly, if there's any room for doubt then it should be tagged. I mean, it's not like it's that much extra effort to do it just to be on the safe side.

Except I don't tell you when that character joins the party, all I tell you is his joining is the flag for the side quest that every other page someone is asking "where is this quest" or "I missed it when did I miss it". If I said something like
once you return to Ruan with Kevin in the party a riot will happen leading to Olivier showing up and he'll join the party, the game will then point you in the direction of the academy at this point you need to check the bracer board for the quest as that's the small window it's available
where I start talking major plot details then it'd cross over into being real spoilers. I don't think saying Zane, Tita, Kloe, Olivier, Schera, or Kevin joining the party is in anyway a spoiler, other characters like
Joshua and Josette
those are spoilers that people might be upset if it's revealed they're playable at some point.

I would consider it a spoiler in the same way Thanos being in GotG is a spoiler IE not at all hence why I didn't even consider tagging it. Of course spoiler culture being the worst thing ever it seems like posting anything will get someone to cry spoilers.

I am about 33 hours in, in Chapter 5. For the most part, SC has been fantastic thus far. The soundtrack is an improvement over FC, and I quite liked FC's soundtrack. There have only been a few really frustrating parts. The prologue
was very annoying because it was painfully obvious from being woken up because of the gunshots, that it was all staged and everyone was in on it.
The end of Chapter 4, I think,
I really disliked the dream sequence. I know several people liked it, but I really disliked it. I didn't like how little estelle's character acted and the "little kid W instead of L, pWease type thing" only happening on like 2 words made the whole thing feel fake to me.

Also, a couple of the optional bosses really bothered me. Like they weren't actually hard, they were just annoying as crap. For instance
the penguin dude, like holy shit. That fight took way longer than it needed to, just because your whole party was just confused or some other disabling status effect.
Also, screw any mobs that use
Shadow Spear
. 20% my ass.

Overall, I am fully enjoying it though, and am glad I double dipped. Easily worth the money. By the time it is all said and done, I don't think I will end up buying as many copies of SC as I did FC (4 English and 3 Japanese copies for me, 7 English copies for other people), I do have a friend finishing up his play through on Vita TV and will be buying SC for him as an early Christmas present.

I forgot how big Grancel was. It's going to take a lot of time if I'm going to talk to everyone in the area regularly. But it's fun revisiting the city under very different circumstances.

And I finally beat a Shining Pom. I got a lot of experience from that fight.

The thing is, you don't get to decide what is or isn't a spoiler. Different people consider different things to be spoilery. Sure, some can go a little crazy over it but really it's just a matter of common courtesy. Like I said, tagging something when in doubt really doesn't require any extra effort.

Then again, if you're complaining about something as ridiculous as "spoiler culture" then I'm probably wasting my time trying to discuss this with you...

It's not a spoiler anyone should be crying about. At some point, if any knowledge of a game bothers you, you should stop reading the OT instead of expecting everything to be catered to you perfectly.

I wish spoiler culture was ridiculous concept instead of a real thing.

Small dialogue spoiler early in Chapter 2 that I want to point out and appreciate:

If you go straight to the Wolf Gate and talk to Henning for the main quest, he'll mention the man wearing a suit and dark glasses, after which Estelle will ask about them and your partner will talk about how glasses like that work, and that they're called sunglasses.

BUT if you instead go to B1 of the Central Factory FIRST and talk to the worker down there, he'll mention the man wearing a suit and dark glasses, and the conversation about sunglasses will happen there instead of at Wolf Gate. Then, when you later go to Wolf Gate, and Henning mentions the glasses, Estelle will say, "Oh, sunglasses!" and the conversation will continue as usual.

It is a tiny difference that so few people will see, but it really deserves to be pointed out, because that sort of thing has to be localized and tested for both instances. And there's probably more to it than that, but that's all I've seen of it.

Stellar work, XSEED. <3

I just finished Chapter 2 and will proceed to the next tomorrow. I love it so far and having played through various other games I've come to realize how amazing every little callback or detail in this game is. It's breathtaking, really.

Haha, (early game Ruan spoilers)
the poker game in the Ruan casino is easy money. Got enough money from multiple plays to stock up to the brim on ingredients with plenty left over. A shame the multiplier caps out at 9999, you could get a lot higher than that with a little luck.

Chapter 2 quests continue to be great so far

Finding the lost parts in the factory was creative. I love how they implement full new gameplay elements for little sidequests

The peeping tom at the bathouse was hilarious

Also after seeing
Anelace
meeting
Tita
I want to have them both in my party at the same time so bad. Hopefully that happens in the future (no spoilers please :D)

I'm spending waaaay too much time fishing as well. Quickly becoming one of my favourite fishing minigames. The process itself isn't exciting but the systems around it are very engaging, and finding fishing spots hidden in the weirdest places is so much fun.

Once Olivier joins the party and you're about to head to the school check the bracer board asap then go to the church in Ruan
.

Yes. Late in chapter 1

Thanks! I'll definitely keep an eye out for the quest. :)

I wish spoiler culture was ridiculous concept instead of a real thing.

On the other hand, people should be able to come into the OT and discuss the game without fear of having shit ruined for them. It's not about catering to people, it's about not being an asshole.

And just to be clear, I'm talking in general here. You didn't post anything I had any real issue with, but personally I still would've tagged some of it if it was me. Cause it only takes a second. You have literally wasted more energy arguing about this than it would've taken to just tag the info in the first place...

Well I didn't even make the original post.

Yeah, I wandered down there during my quest to talk to all the NPCs, so I wound up with that dialogue set. It's really cool how you can get the characters finding out about the suspicious guy in a different order depending on if you do that or not. I really love the attention to detail.

Alright, I'm finished with ToZ, so I can start this.

Probably has been asked before, but do gamefaqs PSP perfect save files work with this? My PSP no longer works and I can't get my FC save.

30 hours and barely started chapter 3. I'm probably pretty slow but I'm really taking my time exploring and talking to npcs more than once, worth it especially for the latter.

Chapter 2 stuff
Cassius returns at last. And he seems to know something about what Olivier's motives are (yet everyone else just lets this drop without really registering). That was a good scene (and one that would be completely missable if Kloe was in the party instead of Olivier, I guess).
uh, missed that scene.
they're teasing you about it since FC first chapter or something. it's annoying how I'm now in SC chapter 3 and I still have no idea of what's going on, probably nothing big but still.

What I posted was really the extent of it.
If you have Olivier in your party when you put the device out at Leiston Fortress, Cassius will talk to him briefly and mention something about him taking time off from his other tasks to help Estelle and say something like "you still have your mission to keep in mind" (not an exact quote).

So it's not really anything major, it's just some additional teasing about that plot point that you'll only get if you have that character in your party.

With the PSP version, absolutely. With either PC version (Steam or GOG), no -- PSP and PC saves are not compatible with one another.

I'm going to be spending an obscene amount of time on airplanes next month, would this be s decent game to pass the time with? I know little or nothing about it and would be a reasonable fan of JRPGs. How does it look on Vita, I see it's a PSP release.

Trails fc and sc even if you just don't go for 100% completion will take a combined 100 hours perfect for a lot of traveling

.... And I've finished the prologue twice. Once on nightmare, once on hard because nightmare is bullshit. Effectively the enemies had the same health, though, just about 25% more damage resistance(makes no difference on regular enemies, makes a slight difference on bosses), though they do anywhere from 25-50% more damage so even the trash mobs 2-3 shot you, everything has more speed than you so you're screwed if you don't get a preemptive strike, bosses require you to rely on slyphen guard misses... It wasn't fun. I mean, I enjoy a challenge, but when you're counting on dice rolls to give you a miss, or
cheesing Kurt 2.0 by forcing him to spend half his turns moving back and forth between two targets
, it's not a good challenge. Hard seemed easy afterward.

That being said, I like
the plot so far, Estelle's growth is apparent, the stuff bubbling in the backround has me interested, and I get the general feeling that shit's about to hit the fan.

Tiniest translation error in Chapter 9.

Just before what I expect is the final fight, Estelle asks the party (Zane and Agate) to give it everything they've got. Zane replies with "of course" with a lowercase O. As I said, teeeeeeeeeny tiny! Only one I've noticed, which is not bad for 50 hours of gameplay.

I just started Chapter 3.

The game is definitely more challenging than before, which is a great thing actually. That being said, that one boss fight
with the blue sheep
was 110% BULLSHIT, but
I should have definitely seen that coming when the game gave me a prompt to delay my deploy. Still, I had absolutely no chance, I took so much damage it was crazy.

I am kind of surprised, but I feel almost forced to use Kloe's healing this time unlike FC where I mainly ignored her since Olivier was better support. For my next playthrough I'm going to be quite stymied when I switch to Olivier, I'll see what I can do to play better defense.

Just had a weird bug on the PSP version. After opening the chest by the stone monument on the Erbe Scenic Route, half the screen flashed red for a second. I got worried the game was about to crash or something, but it returned to normal after just a second.

Midway through Chapter 2, and I'm really struggling to find Water sepith. It's constantly lagging behind my other sepith by several hundred, and it's making upgrading everyone's slots a nuisance.

I remember this being a thing in FC too, except replace blue sepith with red. It evens out eventually.
