The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC |OT| More Olivier Than Ever

Only got a few more fish to collect now! I really hope we get to do stuff at Lake Valleria with members of the fishing guild.

Chapter 5 really heats up. I expected the
duel
, but not all the
destruction
. It's amusing how the Sky Bandits incident was such a big deal in FC but is peanuts compared to what's happening now.

I feel like I've somewhat spoilered myself by buying the
Renne
nendoroids a few years ago (always knew that was a risk). Met them again in chapter 3 but one of the nendoroids has a
scythe
, rather suggesting that
they'll be the next Enforcer
. Ah well, I could be wrong I guess. Better get playing.

Gambler Jack Chapter 4 get. At least I'm still 100% on one element. The Windows for obtaining these are brutally short. That only serves to make them even more satisfying to collect though.

Is there anything obtained by fishing? I haven't done it except to try it.

Spotted some weird text bugs in SC so far:

- In the casino when you're exchanging medals for prizes, the prompt text reads incorrectly. It asks if you want to "exchange [x] medals for [prize] x[cost of prize]" where [x] is in fact the quantity of the prize you want to exchange. So basically when I want to exchange for a rod which costs 200 medals, the prompt asks if I want to "exchange 1 medals for Rod x200" or something like that, which is super awkward.

- In the casino when playing blackjack when you select the amount of medals to bet, the cursor offset is off by one place. It should be one space to the right. Right now it looks really weird.

- I just ran into this quest and somehow I don't think there were supposed to be 3 dialogue options here...

Btw, I think I need some information about fishing in general. How does the minigame actually work in terms of determining if a fish gets away? Is it entirely down to the rod power and the bait used or is there a timing element? I was trying to fish at a spot near the beach at Ruan and wasted like 6 baits with the fish getting away each time. Did I press the button too quickly or is it just a stat check on my shitty starter rod?

How are you ever NOT getting a fish? You wait for the ! To appear and hit the button, the window for it is so freaking lienent its crazy. And as far as I can tell its rod + bait + location determines which of a few fish you can get.

I'm not sure. I fished at the Ruan harbor before and had no problems catching stuff. I tried it at this beach spot just north of Ruan, and I kept getting "The fish got away" each time I pressed the button at the !. Which is why I'm asking if it's a stat thing, because my timing can't be that bad!

Unless you're using a rod that says for lakes/rivers in the ocean or vice versa I haven't tried using a rod in the wrong body of water.

At that point I only had the starting progress rod. I didn't even know there were water types! I only just got a new rod from the casino... -_-

Based on my observations, I think you need to hit the button as the ! is starting to appear in order to catch the fish. If you move too quickly and press it when the bubble pops up but before the ! starts to fill in, that results in a fail, as does not hitting the button until the ! is all there.

I might be wrong about that, but that seems to be the trick.

I couldn't catch anything with the progress rod either and I thought I was using it in the right place. I might have being doing something wrong.

The next rod I got I caught everything I went for. Maybe I just started to time it better dunno (a split second after exclamation comes up).

This is usually what works for me as well.

I had tons of problems with the Progress rod, my catch rate with it has been at best like 5-10%, but with one of the later rods, it is like 90%. I don't feel like I am doing anything differently, but maybe I am.

Same.

Every time I fish, I actually reposition my hand for twitch button reaction as soon as I see the ! start to appear above Estelle's head. I've only missed one fish ever since I've started doing that ages ago, and that was because I got distracted for a second.

Man you guys are freaking me out lol I honestly thought fishing was a super huge window as I never missed it once with any rods, maybe I just have really good reflexes :X

Pretty massive glitch in a chapter 3 scene:

When Schera and Anelace meet Campanella, he wasn't actually there. There was no sprite, just the text box above where it seemed he should be.

chapter 3 stuff,

is it possible to
influence who becomes mayor? I finished all the sidequests but I have no idea if that changed anything.

and I don't know if this gets explained later but,
what was the point of those 2 letters. just to kill Estelle and Kevin? That's a really weird way to handle things there.

What I posted was really the extent of it.
If you have Olivier in your party when you put the device out at Leiston Fortress, Cassius will talk to him briefly and mention something about him taking time off from his other tasks to help Estelle and say something like "you still have your mission to keep in mind" (not an exact quote).

So it's not really anything major, it's just some additional teasing about that plot point that you'll only get if you have that character in your party.
considering how it's quite easy to miss I figured it was just another teasing. I believe the ''main reveal'' will be of some importance, just annoyed that they're making me wait 1 and half a game for it.

lol.

But the dialogue made it seem like they were plainly visible. I assumed at first that they were behind the stack of supplies but the dialogue box was nowhere near there. It was mildly abusing art least

Chapter 3 finished.

Well, I expected something like that with Renne, but I didn't quite expect her to go quite so crazy so quickly. It was a good reveal though, even if the game really beat you over the head with the foreshadowing. And now it seems like Weissman has further plans for Estelle. I have a bad feeling about this.

The final battles in the chapter were pretty fun, especially getting to use a completely different party, and to have Julia in your party. The whole final push of the chapter from the moment Estelle gets the letter was really good.

With Estelle heading off to investigate the sky bandits you knew things were going to lead to her finding out about Joshua soon, but Dorothy handing her that photo was a lot sooner than I expected.

36 hours in and I'm moving on to the second disc. This game is remaining a joy to play at every turn. I can't wait to see where the story goes next.

makes more sense if it was a bug, yes.

some achievements seem bugged as well. the Anton one, I got it after talking to him once in chapter 2 and it doesn't make much sense, especially since in chapter 3
he says "I'm going to travel around the world!" or something.
then I'm sure I killed all the penguins but I haven't got the achievement for it. if you can go back to that place I hope it gets fixed by the time I do.

Got you covered on the latter! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=184387811&postcount=1790

I made a save very close to the boss again just in case.

I've been fishing A LOT, and in my experience the timing depends on the fish that is biting, not on the rod or the bait.

I could catch most things pretty easily so far but getting a Snakehead in Chapter 2
(using Dace as bait on Tratt Plains)
required superhuman reflexes.
The hard to catch one in Ruan might be the Claudine, that's the rarest one I got from that region but I might have missed one.

I've been fishing so much that I pretty much started only fightng monsters that drop bait <.<

Finished chapter 7 last night, pretty fun
string of dungeons and bosses, though I feel like the game is way easy now on normal. Clock down on the enemy, clock up ex on Joshua and he gets like 5 turns for each one the boss gets and can just beat them down while everyone else handles adds. The Renne fight was pretty brutal though not knowing she could deathblow/petrify so often rofl. First time I go into the fight, she immediately attacks and one shots the whole party. Really excited to see where the story goes in chapter 8 now.

Strange. I got this as well, but after you progress the story a bit and come back to the casino both bugs were "fixed" (well, the latter one definitely, unsure on the first since it went unnoticed). I assumed a patch did it but if it's still happening then clearly there's something else going on. A temp bug? Did Falcom program two different instances of the same menu (only one of them getting attention from Xseed)?

Anyone know where to fish for pearl glass in rolent?

I forget the exact name of the road but it's the one that goes south, it's the one that takes you to the fishing spot sidequest. Anyhow, there should be a river there with a bridge and some lily pads. Fish there. I got it using a bamboo rod and dumplings.

You can fish in the lake to the west of the town, on the first screen on the way to the farm, as well. That's where I got mine.

Reposting this: http://game.midoshiro.com/trails_in_the_sky/sc/1/walkthrough/

A really really good walkthrough, only up to Chapter 3 sadly. But good for getting everyone started. Man, I had a hard time on the Male Invader Prologue Boss. I tried maybe 5 times. I ended up just attacking, never using spells. I started the battle with Estelle using her Lv.2 Limit Break (whatever its called) + STR up. Then I just constantly attack and Tear'd while trying to build up meter. I used the other girls' Craft which did the AT delay as much as I could, and just continued to build meter. When I got him down to the last 10% of HP I use a couple of higher level Fire spells and finished him off.

A challenging and fun battle. I hope the rest of the boss fights are this much "engaging" and strategic.

Man I just started the intro of Chapter 1, and they're talking about things that I have NO idea about. Did everyone else feel this way? I mean, I beat FC years ago like everyone else. I don't remember a lot of the details of the FC plot, just the main points. Does this game do a serviceable job of staying coherent in the plot if you don't remember every damn thing from the first?

I'm just like "Who are these guys? Am I supposed to know them?"

I remember from the intro of Ch.1
They're in the ruins, the same ruins that was the final dungeon of FC. I remember that. Also they talked about the 'Gospel' magic thing.
I vaguely remember all that. But I don't recall who were the "bad guys" of FC and what they were trying to accomplish, or if that even matters anymore in SC.

SC begins mere hours after the end of FC. It's called Second Chapter for a reason, it's not as much as a sequel as it is the second part of Trails in the Sky, the game.

In fact, Trails in the Sky FC, SC and 3rd are all considered 'Legend of Heroes 6,' even though 3rd is an epilogue not focused on the two protagonists in FC/SC.

As for everything else, I'd really, REALLY recommend you refresh your memory. There are connecting plot threads from FC that will carry onwards into SC.

By the way, turning on vertex shading did fix the stuttering issues.

Can you run this game through Gedosato? I haven't tried yet.

Bait and rod determine which fish you can get, and the fish itself determines your window based on your bait/rod combo. Trick for me when fishing is to watch the rod; once it starts moving, I jam the spacebar like nothing else matters. I've been able to get Snakehead using the Progress Rod doing this (you really should be using the
Bamboo Fishing Rod from Chapter 3
though). Rod movement also tells you whether or not it's a small or big catch, so you can learn when to save bait. Right now the hugest benefit (aside from completing the Fishing Book) is grinding Rainbow Trout for Space Sepith, which is the kind I usually have difficulty finding and keeping. If you have the
Piscis Heart
rod, Chapter 4 lets you get a lot of good bait for nabbing that fish.

So nothing too important? Unless you can rare or exclusive accessories.
The accessories and ingredients you get from certain fish are useful depending on your playstyle.

and I don't know if this gets explained later but,
what was the point of those 2 letters. just to kill Estelle and Kevin? That's a really weird way to handle things there.
Honestly, that may have been Renne's mistake: perhaps she thought of trapping Estelle and Kevin against Ouroboros Archaisms thinking neither could destroy them, when the obvious (sitll risky) strategy would have been inviting Kevin to the Bracer Guild on business, then putting everyone to sleep with cookies. Above all Renne needed to conceal the Orguielle's launch, but she also wanted guests for her mad tea party, so the dissonance here made her act selfishly in a way that ruined Kanone's plan. Of course, Renne and Pater-Mater could have done what Kanone wanted to do twice-over, but where's the fun in that? She thought it better to confuse and terrify the Bracers and the Royal Guard, like Enforcers before here, knowing how odd a little girl working for Ouroboros would be. This doesn't exactly work, though, at least not on Estelle
.

Is there a bug with Rainbow Trout? Whenever I catch one, I can't see the sepith screen properly; it just flashes away before I can read it. I assume the sepith are safe in my inventory, but it's weird.

That happened to me. I thought I pressed the 'skip' text button at the time, despite feeling like I didn't.

Where can I find shining poms at the very beginning of chapter 6? Want to kill one or two to level up a character.

I would be interested in this for chapter 7 as well
, if it is possible that is. Given the tower situation, I haven't tested if it lets me leave a tower on foot after getting dropped off.

There are some in
the Esmelas and Amberl Tower.

I get it every time, lol. But it's fine, as I know I'm getting shit-tons of sepith wherever I can find these guys. The economy in this game is pretty broken unless you're buying lots of everything, like cooked meals and accessories you'll never use. I remember FC having better Mira balance than what's up in SC.

That's kinda funny to me, because I ended FC with like a quarter-million mira just lying around, I think. I almost never buy food, ingredients or other items.

That's... weird. I mean, the very beginning. Basically, still chapter 5.
I should be able go anywhere in Bose except the lake and still need to do the few end-chapter Bose sidequests, surely I can find one somewhere?

Edit: Gamefaqs thread had locations I should be able to use. Going to guess the
Amberl Tower
ones will be the best option.
