The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is IGN's Game of the Show for E3 2016

Uhhh Xenoblade X was NOT fully voiced (oh, did you edit your post? I swear you listed Xenoblade X as being fully voiced). Speaking of which though, if there are sidequests involving helping out people and triggering small cutscenes, I hope THOSE are voiced. I found it quite odd that in X, you do these big sidequest missions that are presented just like the story cutscenes, but aren't voiced at all. THAT came across as lazy to me.

It's got nothing to do with laziness. Are you aware of how small Monolith Soft are? Think about that for a minute and then think about the scale of Xenoblade X; think about the limited budget they're given. Now think about the limited resources they have to develop a video game. There's so much text in XCX that voicing everything would eat away at their budget. Game development is never laziness but about making compromises. Sort of disappointed that you hadn't already realised this.

Nintendo on the other hand, have enough money to voice the NPCs in Zelda BotW, surely.

Lol... it's the most expensive game they've made, you bet your damn they want to save money where they can. They don't have a blank cheque here...

Bullshit. Zelda games have always had less dialogue than most games. Thery have already hired voice actors for some characters and the process of recording is the biggest hurdle, not having a few extra actors there vocing a couple hundred lines. You guys are grasping for straws here.

We actually doubted Nintendo, thinking that they were insane to dedicate E3 to just one game.

But to think that they still managed to steal the show.

Well deserved. This, Horizon and God of War were my favorites of the show. Fantastic E3 where I really feel like there was something for everyone.

Also Link can be a goddamn savage in this game.

I was thinking "oh man it'd be great if he punted it" but didn't expect him to actually do it! I expected him to just throw it like he would a pot or other thing!

They've already booked the studio, hired actors, recorded lines, etc. and that's the expensive part. Compared to that recording additional lines would't cost that much.

Do you intentionally skip all the positive messages from people who don't even own a nintendo console or have given up on zelda based on the last few games in the series? Because all the zelda threads have them in big numbers.

Your schtick is getting tiresome.

What excites me the most here is how this is only 1-2% of the game that we've seen. I can't even begin to imagine some of the crazy stuff we're going to get later in the game. Can't wait to see how the dungeons turn out.

Sorry, Poor choice of words. What I meant was, I have no problem with simple NPCs not being voiced. As pointed out already, it can really interrupt the flow of the game, it's faster to just be able to read. There's a chance you'll have to hear it again (dear God, imagine Kaepora voice acted) It's not "immersion breaking". Again, IMO, since that's something you don't seem to be realizing. However, with the side missions I mentioned in X, THAT really feels immersion breaking and comes across as a cut corner. AN UNDERSTANDABLE ONE, mind you, you're absolutely right, but a cut corner nonetheless.

What I've noticed on YouTube everytime I watch a Zelda video a Horizon Zero Dawn advertisement pops up... I think Sony is trying to capitalize hard on people comparing the two games and Zelda having so much hype.

Wow, that links to an IGN forum post, which links to a MyNintendoNews article, which finally links to the original source, a tweet we've seen posted on NeoGAF numerous times. He's the only one saying Aonuma stated this, so I'm a bit wary.

The only thing that's keeping me from writing it off completely is the fact that the tweet came from a Eurogamer editor.

True, I have to go back and watch the live streams because I was almost certain that someone asked the question and the same answer was given. Saying that the graphics would be different!

Yep, Nintendo's strength consolidating entirely around Zelda is going to make it the clear front-runner vs. the three noteworthy Sony exclusives for next year - Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and - while it certainly didn't make as bold an E3 splash it will assuredly come into play for most anticipated and GOTY chatter - Persona 5.
Humbug. The people on here who own just a Wii U and nothing else can most likely be counted on one hand. Nintendo console warriorism is dead, as it's not getting third party games anyway. I spend by far the most time on my PS4, and I'd still vote Zelda, because it's more interesting than horizon, gow, and persona.

Butthurt about what? I think the game looks cool minus a few complaints like no NPC dialogue and the jingle whenever you pick up a new item, so I don't really feel much butt pain at all.
then why the need to troll? or are you being serious and choose to ignore all the information stating otherwise?

The game looks fantastic, that's for sure. Can't wait to see Zelda--the character... hopefully she's voiced!

Uh huh.

Oh, sorry! I forgot I'm supposed to love everything about BotW and Nintendo or I'm a troll. I was just voicing my opinion on the lack of voice acting for the NPCs, that's all.
Your complaints are totally fine, I was referring to your statement that only Nintendo fans seem to enjoy this game.

Totally deserved. I could have never expected Nintendo to do such a radical change to the Zelda formula. And it seems it will pay out.

I do wonder how they tracked all these terms. "#FE" seems to be quite hard to get, since there's also a game called Fe now, so... #FE is different from #Fe?

A eurogamer editor confirming it with Emily evidently. I guess I'll cautiously believe this.

I like the no voice acting, instead of have generic villagers and towns people voices, I prefer to give individual personalities to people in Zelda games. People just don't like to read anymore

And Mass Effect Andromeda.... guys?!
I know EA will still say Mass Effect Andromeda is coming out in Q1 2017 but let's be real... look at all of the footage from the other games scheduled in that release window and then look at Mass Effect.
Do you really think it's hitting that release date?

Well deserved imo, it was the standout game on a show once again dominated by zombies, cinematics and shooters. The game that came closest was probably Horizon, which can be really special if Sony have the guts to make it challenging, which it seemed like they will from what I saw. Also got to give Bloodstained a shootout, that game continues to look amazing.

I actually noticed the Old Man does have a(n English) voice, but so far limited to him handglidding down to the Tower of Ressurection.

I feel they're saving further recording sessions until more dialogue gets finalized, and considering how vast the scope of the game is, I could see why the extra delay would lead it all the way to next year, which means recording (finalized dialogue) could start as late as December.

It's understable if you didn't watched during 5 hours the Tree house stream. That's why we made a topic on GAF that compiled everything we saw: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1233823

Take your time to read, there're a lot of infos written and it doesn't contain what the gifs are about which are themself other features that are from the Treehouse and other videos. And I'm not even talking about the subtile stuff like random generated items in chest that a mod spoted.

To resume, I think what make people happy about this game is that even after 5 hours of show casing we're still discovering "new" stuff to do.

Like for example this gif:
vtnO5Wg.gif

Thank you- very informative and helpful post. I'll take a look at the compilation of the Treehouse stream details, at least.

Some of the gifs are just a joy to watch. Not exactly sure why. The shield parrying and snowboarding, lighting everything on fire, throwing pitchforks and other weapons at enemies, blowing enemies over with the leaf item, climbing cliffs and buildings, knocking over trees, etc. I'm all over the place with this but yeah, the gameplay looks like a ton of fun, especially for a game that's apparently massive.

Is there a game out there that has so much freedom like BotW? Just looking at these gifs shows how much people can do and being able to beat the game at the very start.

No surprise there.
Well, before the Treehouse started, GAF described Nintendo as a completely outdated company that couldn't even afford to show anything on E3, and was already vanishing into irrelevance. You couldn't step into a Nintendo thread without witnessing a torrent of contempt and insults toward the company. My ignore list doubled.

Funny how things turn around.

If a game of this caliber was released at Wii U launching window, it could have changed the landscape

What do you think?

I agree. I'm waiting to see the NX version but will be going out and getting a WiiU/ NX just for this game. The vast majority of people I have spoken to in person agree that this is a system seller, something the WiiU has lacked for most of it's lifetime.

Tom is a trustworthy guy, of course, information at this point is worth what it is considering the game is so long from release.

I think the NX version looking better overall is a no brainer. But then again, who knows.

Did TP Wii look better than the Gamecube version? I've only played the former.

Nope. Same resolution, same texture quality, etc. The only improvement was the 16:9 versus 4:3... but that seems more like an intentional omission versus a technical limitation.

Eurogamer picked 5 games rather than 1, but the Zelda text makes it clear that it stole the show for them as well

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-06-17-eurogamers-best-of-e3-2016

It's perhaps ironic that we decided not to nominate a single game of the show this year, when it would have been an easier choice than usual......In terms of generosity, openness and entertainment value, Breath of the Wild's demo wiped the show floor with all-comers; our own Tom Phillips played it four times without getting close to seeing all of it. Simply magical stuff. (OW)
