With all the reviews commenting on frame rate, I did some searching. Anyone else notice the claims from Dualshockers that the patch fixes the frame rate? I personally contacted the reviewer and he told me the following:

"I delayed the review an hour to test if there was stability boost in the beginning of the game. After comparing it to footage I took pre-patch, I noticed that I ran into stutters less frequently, lasting shorter periods. while it's all anecdotal (I don't have equipment to test exact figures), it was an improvement. However, take it with a grain of salt, I only got an hour to test stability before the review was up. And really only in a few areas. Stutters were still present, but lessened. And given the nature of the game, it is impossible to replicate exact conditions."

Now this could mean a minor fix, or it could mean nothing has changed, we'll probably have to play to figure it out
 
Anyone else feel BOTW's current metacritic score (when taken in context of the different times these games released) is far more impressive than OOT's, Tony Hawk's and GTA IV's metacritic scores?

Absolutely.

What should be done is to compare the original critic reviews [per organization] for Ocarina Of Time to the Breath Of The Wild reviews from the same organizations.

I'm sure that some of those institutions no longer exist, but they could easily be substituted with similar ones. To save time, all in all - after only 22 reviews - BOTW would be at 100 instead of 98 :)

This is insane. I graduated from my BSc in May 2011 -- one month before that tech demo happened.

I'm gonna be graduating from grad school in about a month. I got a PhD in the time it took them to make this game.

... god I've been in school for so long ...
 
Cubed3 10/10 (Masterpiece / Platinum Award)

This is the pinnacle of adventuring, Zelda style. It takes the core elements that fans know and love from Nintendo's long-standing series, and mixes it smoothly in with gorgeous open-world exploration of Xenoblade Chronicles, to craft something so breath-taking and absorbing that hours upon hours will pass by without notice, and barely any progress will have actually been made in the main story because there were so many other aspects to take in and play around with, as well as sub-missions that fit so naturally into the core quest. Nintendo has outdone itself with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - absolutely sublime work.


This just bumped the OpenCritic score up to 98.

Crazy good scores all around, but i guess that was to be expected from another game in the consistently best series ever.
 
That's actually not true. For example, Hydlide.

As this is a random forgotten game that's unplayable today notably due to basically nonexistent gameplay feedback, this doesn't really refute the point of the person you were quoting. He responded to a shitpost about how BOTW's success is due to Western games when Nintendo is actually known to have made plenty of these open games with a sense of adventure well before 2007

Breath of the Wild is a testament to not only great game design, it also shows that hard work will eventually be rewarded. Nintendo really knows how to create a great game, how to nurture a masterpiece. People are telling me Zelda got that high of a score because it had the "Nintendo Bonus" attached to it, which is hilarious. They delayed the game once, twice, three times and it was absolutely worth it. Breath of the Wild stands for everything that's great in games and it also shows that this medium doesn't need the best graphics available on the best hardware possible to satisfy us gamers. It "only" takes a lot of dedication, a lot of hard work and a lot of time.

Pretty incredible scores. I honestly didn't know if I'd ever see another game hit over the 96 mark on Metacritic, especially not one that in a lot of ways heavily departs from the series it belongs to.

I'm excited to play it but probably won't be able to for a bit, at least not until I have a lot of free time to dedicate to it.

I've read most of the reviews while trying to avoid spoilers, and it's pretty amusing that even most reviewers can't really sell the game on a single sentence without using superlatives. Most of them are most effective when describing scenarios that they've experienced, and a good number of them just sell the game on "you can go anywhere you want, for reals this time".

Nintendo have marketing mishaps often, but in this case I can see how difficult it was to sell this game as their best Zelda ever without making statements that sound trite. And they probably should be applauded for keeping so many things in wraps so that gamers can enjoy this with their own experiences to the fullest.

Absolutely agree. In the end, it was all worth it.
 
So you're saying it won't happen because of reasons, but in my opinion before being able to state that you should play the game first with an open mind. From what I've seen and played it does have potential to have a lasting effect.

Mario 64 basically taught people to make functional games in 3D

Considering that basically no one even tries to make Zelda-like dungeons and puzzles integrated into the world I doubt it. That would imply that after BOTW's release, every game would have features that actually mix well with the general gameplay, unlike dull, shoehorned mechanics that are present even in AAA games(ex TLOU crafting/planks/ladders/bottles/bricks)

Twilight Princess got a 95 on Metacritic...yet this has a 98 and nothing lower than a 9/10.

I do think it's a bit annoying people like to shout "BUT BUT SKYWARD SWORD WAS ACCLAIMED TOO!".

Yeah, Skyward Sword did generally receive rave reviews, but nothing quite on the same level as BOTW. It has a lower 93 and even then, if you look hard enough, you can see through the cracks. There's a handful of 7s and even one 6. Meanwhile, this game has yet to receive anything lower than a 9.

I wonder what the dream team that created this masterpiece will work on next.

Zelda 2022, Aonuma will die with this franchise. No wonder they got rid of the open chest jingle. I imagine the core team members are chained up day in day out rethinking the mechanics of this series.
