I'm just post Dungeon 6:

As I first started the Silent Realm section, I had horrible flashbacks to TP when I was given the tear container. Then horrified when I found out that it was one chance.

But as it turned out, they weren't too bad, and quite fun in retrospect. My last sequence in the fire area was super tense. I did it in one go, but that last one I had to get was very far away, and I had to evade the flying ghosts to get to it. I had to slide down and avoid one of the armored ones right next to it. I was so happy when I got it.

A hint: use your beacons! You can see where a tear is, and then pause and got to your map, and place a beacon. You can pause and unpause until you place it right. I tend to run up to a light tear, and just before nabbing it, spend the remaining time placing beacons. I didn't do this exclusively, but you can quickly add some hints if you're finding it tough.

Also, re: the "escort" mission. I could barely even tell it was an escort mission. I was running ahead so far and using my bow to take out most enemies from afar. When fighting the two lizalfos, One was even attacking my robot with no effect, except for him complaining.

if he gets hit 3 times you have to start the whole thing over :|

Just spent an hour getting my ass kicked by the final boss, over and over. Finally beat it and was amazed that they would make a Zelda boss so tough. Then I went and watched a youtube video of the fight and realized I was doing it COMPLETELY wrong.
It never occurred to me to try to catch the thunder in my sword. I beat the boss just by circling him, floating in and out of his range, waiting for him to leave a tiny opening and get a quick slash in. The problem is that the openings are SMALL and it's often unclear whether he's open or gonna zap you with lightening. Took a lot of trial and error to figure it out. Although admittedly when I calmed the fuck down and took my time, making sure to stay out of the range of his left to right strike (which has HUGE range, and even if you parry it he keeps on slashing) it wasn't nearly so bad.

I did however become a total boss at the first part of the fight. If you're good at parrying you can go TOTALLY blitzkrieg on his ass and never stop slashing, while just parrying every one of his attacks. I swear I can beat that section in 12 seconds at this point without losing a heart.

And since I blazed through the main story I had only one bottle for a health potion, and couldn't upgrade it because I had no bugs.

Eeeeesh.
I only had an enhanced guardian potion on me along with the potion medal and was down to one heart midway through the
Ghirahim
fight and it somehow lasted me all the way until the end of the game. I had no idea it would work for so long.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Thanks! I'll be sure to try it the next time I play!
Though I'm stupid and clumsy and I don't know if I can keep track of swinging and thrusting with both my hands at the same time.
You can swing the Nunchuk in any direction so it's pretty easy.

The shield meter is one of my favorite additions to this game. The meter limits it so it isn't the be-all end-all brainless defense option it is in previous Zeldas, and the way you can use your shield bash properly to circumvent that gives the game a really good feeling of reward vs. risk. I really hope the shield system returns in future 3D Zeldas.
Yeah, exactly. In other 3D Zeldas I always avoid equipping shields for just that reason. In SS not only does the meter decrease if you time it wrong, but some attacks will hit you anyway or knock you off balance if you time your shield wrong. Pretty cool.

I'm just going to re-post the 4 Gecko Codes that have transformed this game into a whole new experience for me, and I'll do that because you really, really should try them out when doing a re-run, specially on
Hero Mode
.

You won't even mind Fi that much after you implement these, I swear it sounds like I'm crazy but trust me, I'm not kidding you:

No Notification The First Time You Collect A Bug Or Treasure
042541C4 60000000

That code alone improved the gameplay a lot, coupled with:

Always fly at boost ring speed
26AF1E9C 43480001
28599D0C BFFF4000
82200005 80AF1E9C
86A00005 3F700000
84200005 80AF1E9C
28599D0D BFFF0000
04AF1E9C 43480000
E0000000 80008000

(hold C to slow down)

That code won't work inside the
Thunderhead
for some reason, but hey! you only visit that place 4 times in the entire game, so no biggie at all.

You won't ever have to bore yourself to death. Reaching Skyloft takes around 5-8 seconds from any of the 3 main locations, I swear.

And here's some extra codes that you might like as well:

Disable Low Health Alarm
0420AC88 48000028

(Extremely useful for
Hero Mode
Re-runs.)

Disable Fi's Low Health Warning
0416C700 4800003C

Disable Fi's Low Shield Gauge Warning
0416C684 4800003C

I'm using all of them and it feels like a whole different game.

And a bonus for hardcore fans (I'll use it as soon as I'm done with my 2nd run)

3 Heart Run
0095A767 0000000C

Bear in mind, the game might freeze at random (happened to me once) so it's recommended you save as often as you can.

All I need is "Fast text speed" and "Fi never speaks" codes and I'll start my second playthrough.

Does that bug/treasure code mean no more "You got this treasure! blah blah blah" *open menu, slowly add another bug to your collection*?

When you pick up treasures or bugs, it will just appear over your head without interrupting the game. The collection screen or text won't come up unless you got it from a treasure chest or you picked up a gratitude crystal.

Has anyone watched link's idle sitting animation? It's pretty great. I love little touches like that.
Yeah haha, it's great. Took me awhile to notice there was an animation there.

And maaan, I just noticed that the Shiekah Stone things aren't like OoT 3D in that they show you how to progress. I've been activating them but skipping them. Just now I realised they instead give you little tips about the game, which are pretty handy. I've already talked to two of them and I got tips on
drawing hearts on the walls, and that the glittering mushroom power stuff can be poured on enemies and bugs to paralyse them.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
This took me by surprise with the rupee digging minigame. The guy gives you his life story almost, lol.
Yeah I remember this! Simply amazing XD

Yeah, though I remember an asshole-ish one in Eldin. :p
It tells you about a rumor on Eldin and asks you if you want to hear the rumor again, you say "No" and says something like "Rumor says that you're a know it all that gets stuff the first time"..or something like that. :p

I am at what is probably the most tedious segment of the game and am hitting a brick wall.
I'm on a return trip to Skyview Temple for the Water Dragon. And to make things even more tedious, I have to unlock the door that I had previously unlocked. Fair enough, I have to dig holes for the key cause the dude lost it. Only I can't find the freaking key. I've tried every single hole and nada. So where is the bloody key?

Dude, they are the
gossip stones from OoT. The ones that go boing when you hit them and tell you the time. In OoT you needed the mask of truth to hear their tips. They even blast off when you bomb them like in OoT. I had the biggest smile on my face when I first did that.

Why can't Link just sit on the ground to regain hearts?

Also I thought the character designs in this game was great. Then I saw Batreuax.

I'm at almost seven hours in and I haven't even gone down the second beam of light yet. I thought Twilight Princess was long, but this game is going to be more bang for your buck if I'm guessing correctly.

ALSO I finally found Beedle. People kept saying he was above Skyloft but I never saw him. I even found his island but the sign says he's only there at night. So I try to fly there at night but apparently I'm not allowed to. When I finally see his ship, I immediately run to my bird, but then I find out he's nowhere to be seen. I dive back down in Skyloft, and then realize you can actually get in his shop while on Skyloft if you hit the bell. All this work for a bug net.

Well, that's actually not the most tedious one. :p
But just keep doing that. Seems there's no specific place since different people has reported different places. :p

Mine was in one in a corner, right around an exit in one of the rooms to the left.
Or maybe we all just have fuzzy memories. :p

In the 5th dungeon. Wow loving this game. Everything is clicking and the motion controls have been perfect. Don't understand why Fi annoys some people. She has barely popped up at all for me.

Only complaint is that it's too easy, but I've played every Zelda so I expect it to be sort of easy.

They both ended up taking me nearly 40 hours, with a good amount of side questing in that time.

If you want to go to Beedle Island at night..
You have to sleep in the bed on his ship

And yeah, I knew they were

I'll wait til there's a treasure chest code.

Shouldn't be too difficult. "No text appears after acquiring an item from a chest".

I didn't think there was one!
I'll have to check that out during a Hero Mode run
.

Oh, and just to praise this game some more; The entire desert area is brilliant. One of my favorite environments in the series.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Another cute Mogma moment...
After you take Guld to the Lumpy Pumpkin, you can talk to Silva and tell him that Guld "is gone", leading him to think the old Mogma died. :0

Also, another thing I just realized that I never tried before involving bombs...(spoilers on later items)
You can pick them up with the Whip and pull them into your hand

Limited play session tonight, I managed after much trial and error to land on the birds nest in skyloft , collected a couple of goddess cubes and made it to just inside the 6th dungeon. On one hand I don't want this game to be over soon but on the other hand I'm kind of worried that the 10 hours or so that will be left when I finish this dungeon will involve being a super gopher. I can see 3 or 4 small areas of the map that remain dark , I've got 37 gratitude crystals and can only guess that I have at least 6 more heart pieces to get.

It's been good overall so far.

I hated everything about the 5th dungeon, holy shit.

rant about said dungeon below:

First of all the build up to it was awesome. Time shifting desert -> ocean? Mechanical pirates? Crazy mine carts? THE FUCKING HOOKSHOT?! I was absolutely shitting my pants in excitement at the prospect of this dungeon.

I should have known I was in for disappointment when I wasn't even sure I had entered the dungeon or not when I boarded the ship. It was going alright even up until the miniboss, and when I got the bow I knew I was in for some sweet puzzles.

Nope. Nothing. The hookshot was literally never even used (save for an optional chest), the bow was reduced to hitting the same type of target over and over without encountering any new enemies. The puzzles were barely there, with the huge mechanic of this entire province being used only a handful of times. The "pre-dungeon" with the movable time orb was 10000% better designed.

I mean hell, they had time travel and mechanical boats...they could have done so much! Off the top of my head, I can think of puzzles involving going into the past to traverse the engine room, or bringing damaged parts of the hull into the future to prevent it from sinking. Etc. etc. etc. Instead it was used only a handful of times to help open doors!

So stupid.

AND THE BOSS! Holy shit I hated everything about that fight. I thought my game had broken at first, because nothing I did would advance the fight. After about 10 minutes I realized that the way I was doing the skyward strike - a vertical slice, the way you're taught from the start and use up to the very boss fight itself - was entirely wrong. Unfortunately the game didn't tell me that at all, and in fact made the "hey you're hurting him!" sound effects every time I landed a hit like that. So I did it over and over and over, until I accidentally turned my Wii remote sideways in frustration and sliced a tentacle.

I did not like the aiming at all with the monster constantly moving and attacking you. It was dumb.

To top everything off, the reward you get is so pointless. Grats, you can now dowse for EIGHT things!!! I don't think I saw a single time where I could dowse for over 3 things, so why would I give a shit? I mean, ok, I did go back to town and picked up 2 useful new dowsing abilities, but at the time it was such a slap in the face for an already lame ass dungeon

Click the yellow "-> GCT" near the top

Paste in the codes you want to use

Click Add Codes

Check the codes you want to use

Click Download GCT, then

Put the file in your SD card under codes\

Put your SD card in your Wii and launch Homebrew Channel and Gecko OS.

Just beat the game. My final playtime was about 37 hours, though I did not finish every sidequest or get all the Goddess Cubes and Heart Pieces. It definitely did not feel that long, but it's good that I never felt like the game was dragging its heels. I guess I was extremely tolerant of the so-called padding sections. Only one ever annoyed me (
getting the sacred water for Faron
), but at least it was a good idea that was just executed poorly.

The whole final section of the game was brilliant. The last dungeon had me in awe once I realized what the premise was. I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that it's one of the most unique Zelda dungeons ever. The final bosses were excellent.
Ghirahim's final form looked cool as hell. The fight wasn't really hard, but I'm so glad it was somewhat different from the previous fights. And then there's Demise. While his personality was generic (I'M EVIL BLAH BLAH), the fight was great. I'd say the setting ties with Wind Waker's final fight with Ganondorf. I was hoping to start fighting with the clear skies and then have it go dark, but getting the storm at the end was just as good. It definitely was the most difficult final boss in a 3D Zelda game. The only reason I didn't die was because I downed two potions. I can't wait to face him in Hero Mode.

The final scenes were very nice. I wish there were more to them, but that's only because I didn't want the game to end. The credits were great, and I was surprised when
they showed some scenes of Zelda beginning her journey on the ground
.

I can say now that Skyward Sword currently sits at the top of my favorite Zelda games list. I'll see how that opinion changes with time, but the high points are so high that any low point is negligible to me. (Well except Fi. It took until the back end of the game for her to finally shut the hell up. I had hopes for her, but they never developed her character which was a damn shame.) I'll do a second playthrough
on Hero Mode
at some point, but for now, I've got other games to play.

And now I can stroll into the spoiler thread! No more accidentally doing so and almost ruining parts of the game.

EDIT: Oh, the other was an old version.

So, how do I get cheats on this thing?

There's several ways but the one which I find to be the most practical (you save the trouble of inputting all the numbers and letters) goes as follows:

You must have Accio Hacks (http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Accio_Hacks) ( download link: http://geckocodes.org/AH.php?dl ) installed in your Homebrew Channel. When you enter Accio Hacks you will be prompted to connect to the database where they have all the cheat code lists stored; then you just have to choose a system and subcategory. For Skyward Sword You should go to Wii --> Wii Ntsc (U) --> T --> AccioHacks --> The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

When you select the game by pressing A the whole Cheatcode list gets transfered to your SD.

After that you just have to go back to the main menu, select AccioHacks Again, do the same steps (Wii --> Wii Ntsc (U) --> T ) and instead of selecting the AccioHacks option you will see Skyward Sword showing up right below it.

Select Skyward Sword and you will be taken to the entire set of cheats.

Look for the cheats you would like to activate, and press right on the D-pad. You'll see the selected cheat move one space to the right.

After you make your choices you just press B, then you'll get asked if you'd like to create a .GCN file for that game. Say yes and voila, your GCN file is all set.

To run the cheats you should use a USB/ISO Loader (I think all of them support Ocarina cheats by now). I use NeoGamma for running ISOs, but you could use any other app you want. You should turn Ocarina mode ON and that's it, that's all you have to do. Ocarina prompts the loader to look for the game's corresponding cheatcode list (.GCN), and if it finds one then all the cheats get activated).

Hope this helps!

Ooooooh, that's way faster than using the Ocarina Manager on my PC! And I'm using Gecko, the USB/ISO Loader won't be necessary.

Died on the first boss. What an asshole :p

Had to think back to either Zelda 1 or 2 when that might have happened (can't remember for sure)

Just entered Dungeon 3. Really liked the area leading up to it and the crystal mechanic. Enjoying the game more by the second. Don't know if Fi becomes more intrusive as time goes on but she didn't interrupt me at all through that section. Just a wonderful game so far.

Though, regarding The Imprisoned, you could and can also take him down like this (video, direct link to the part; spoiler of course and in the related videos there are spoilers); so it made the encounter ...a little different instead of doing the expected way of just
slashing the white things on his feet; so it could fall
.

This is exactly the way I fought him. It is much quicker and way easier.
