I could use some new additions to my library. Anyone have any good Melodic Death Metal, Melodic Black Metal, or Industrial Metal bands that I could give a listen to?

I've probably heard a lot of the more well known stuff but I'd love some suggestions. :)

Wintersun or Moonspell/sorrow (it's either Moonspeel or Moonsorrow, I always get confused lol)

Norther were pretty sweet back in the day.

This song is soooo good imo

You went to Maryland Death Fest right? How was it? Did you see Nasum?

Yes and Nasum was so incredibly good. The entire weekend was a blast and the only band I didnt get to see that I wanted to was Ulcerate. Besides EW and Nasum, Dragged Into Sunlight was one of the best shows all weekend, their set was amazing.

Can you guys give some band recommendations? I listen to pretty much everything but my favs are Death Metal, Technical Death Metal, Grindcore, and Slam/Guttural metal.

I'd like to explore Black Metal some more. I think I only know of Dimmu Borgir, Darkthorne, Bathory, Mayhem, and Abigail Williams.

I also just got into Sleep (they are sweeeeet!). :D

Off to see Ozzy with friends (Zakk wylde and Slash) later today with Black label society warming up. Looking forward to it, although the little I've heard of BLS was not promising.

On a side note, I had tickets for Heaven & Hell at the same venue a couple of years ago, but sadly Dio passed away.

Recommendations: Gojira, Gojira, more Gojira.

For those who want to dig into the history of metal the list at http://www.bnrmetal.com/v3/topsongs/listing is bound to end up being epic, he already has some interesting picks there..

I found out about the band Madder Mortem through that list, I was like where the heck has this band been my whole life? They are so awesome and yet so unpopular I had never even heard the name before. A bit eccentric for the people who like the br00tulz but I dig a change up / progressive stuff too. Have a hard time describing, sometimes sounds a little like Tool with female singer, sometimes little more groovy or rock, the musical versatility they have might make some irritated.

Profane Omen/Swallow The Sun/Insomnium/Amoral show was great last Saturday. Profane Omen especially was into the crowd - they even wrote a song just for Japan - and uploaded it to YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EB2tHPBnDw

Going to see Napalm Death, Nasum and Pig Destroyer in August in a small cramped club, that should be a fun one...

Can you guys recommend me some stuff?

I like older metal, heavier stuff. I'm kinda new to the scene, but listening to the older material of Slayer, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc. I do listen quite morbid stuff too.

Going to take some tips from the thread but there are so many!

Definitely check out the following

The Gates of Slumber
Solitude Aeturnus
Hour of 13
Bruce Dickinson's The Chemical Wedding
Mandatory
Sarcasm's Crematory
Uncanny

I just wanted to pop in to remind everybody of how much I love this thread. Almost every single linked posted, no matter what subgenre, is usually worth checking out. My metal palate has expanded so much from following this thread throughout the years, so thanks everyone!

He has a flair for making traditional instruments add really ominous, non-symphonic elements to songs. On Kentucky there's plenty of awesome flutes and violin segments that don't feel the least bit Dimmu Borgerish.

And the cello on this track is brutally solemn:

Thanks.
This may be my very first Black Metal album I am gonna buy. (gotten one of the Dimmu Borger album as a gift)

Hehe, those really are two extremes of the genre. Ever since I got into black metal I've been pretty much stuck here. There's just such an insane range. From the pompous arena-rock black metal of Dimmu Borgir to the depressive Burzum-worshippers to the european blackgaze of Amesoeurs and Alcest, to Panopticon and the other USBM bands. You're in for a treat.

I had a hell of a hard time accepting the genre at first (I got into death first, and then moved onto black). It was an uphill climb. But once you get in, you're pretty much screwed.

I really liked the first song you listed. I jumped on spotify and listened to a bit of their newer stuff --- meh. Wish spotify had the album you listed.

Wintersun announced the new album details:

http://www.wintermadness.net/

Hello friends!

Time for some album(s) news. Wintersun's "Time" is going to be two albums, titled TIME I & TIME II. We made this decision simply because of few reasons:

- All the 80min of material won´t fit on a regular CD and we didn´t want to cut anything out.

- We want you to be able to hear new material sooner and not wait any longer and we want to go on tour sooner.

- The music is very full and complex, so listening this kind of "hard listening (not easy listening)" material straight for 80 minutes is a bit too much (even for me). Both albums will be approx. nice 40 min epic packages of fireworks.

- We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these "modern times". No more years of silence for us!

We hope you´ll approve our new little "plan" and support us when the "Time" comes!

The tracklisting for TIME I looks like this:

TIME I

1. When Time Fades Away
2. Sons of Winter and Stars
I Rain of Stars
II Surrounded by Darkness
III Journey Inside a Dream
IV Sons of Winter and Stars
3. Land of Snow and Sorrow
4. Darkness and Frost
5. Time

TIME I mix is set to be finished by July, mastered in the beginning of July and released in early fall of 2012! TIME II will be released in 2013. Conception of album artworks, videos, live shows incl. rehearsals will keep us busy during the summer and I´ll also continue mixing TIME II meanwhile. We´ll be hopefully posting some videos and teasers during summer. Also some new live show announcements soon, so stay tuned for those!

We can´t wait for you guys to hear TIME I material and play it to you live! Have a great summer!

I still think the album (Blue) is a magnificent piece of work, but it feels like it’s closer to “almost there” than “made it.” Baroness sounded as if they were reaching for something more ambitious, brushing it with their fingers but not yet able to grasp it. If they had a great album in them, it’d most likely be next.

...

That being said, if you loved their first few EPs and the Red Album, you’re going to be disappointed by this even more than you most likely were by the Blue Record.

Too bad, I wasnt a fan of Blue.
