Stereogum posted a song from the new Agalloch album... I'm gonna try to hold off listening to it as I want to listen to the album as a whole when it comes out. Profound Lore should have it up for sale in a couple of weeks.

Profound Lore also has the new Salome album for sale as of today, another release I'm really psyched about.

I, however, am not as patient as you are. :lol

And HOLY FUCK NEW SONG IS SO SO GOOD.

Indeed it is. It seems to have more of a BM feel then their other releases with the harsher sounding vocals.

Holy shit, I just started listening to Amorphis. They're incredible :| Ordered Eclipse because it's the one that has stood out to me so far, but everything I listen to by them is so good that I don't know what to order next! I think I might just catch up on the recent albums then work back. Unfortunately they're all expensive in the UK :(

havent listened to Amorphis in quite some time, but my favorite has to be Tales From The Thousand Lakes and Black Winter Day. It's quite early Finnish death metal meets The Doors with lots of moog.

Opinions on material from these bands tend to vary on who you ask, as usually is the case with bands that change frontmen.

Helloween's output varies a lot more than Angra's does. If you like Metal Invaders, it's safe to assume you'll enjoy all of Walls of Jericho. The first 2 keeper albums would be safe choices as well. The stuff with Andi Deris is fantastic too, but stylistically they started getting a bit experimental with him. The Dark Ride, Better than Raw, Time of the Oath, and Gambling With the Devil are my personal favorites from this era.

Now, with Angra the only album I like with Andre Matos as singer is Angels Cry. His voice may have less balls than any singer I've ever heard. Not for me. Edu Falaschi is a better singer for the band to me, and Temple of Shadows would be my favorite album by the band. Hunters and Prey is a nice little EP, btw. I like Live and Learn, as well as the latiny (for lack of a better word) themed title track.

FINALLY!!

Blind Guardian this December and now this :D

Apr. 17 - Tampa, Florida - St Pete Times Forum

IRON MAIDEN, with their crew and many tons of equipment, will once again be boarding Ed Force One in February 2011 to fly 50,000 miles round the globe on their continuing mammoth "The Final Frontier World Tour", playing 29 shows and visiting 26 cities in thirteen countries across five continents with singer Bruce Dickinson again in the pilot's seat, and heading into more new frontiers of uncharted MAIDEN territory!!!

The first show will be on February 11 in Moscow's Olympic Stadium, after which the Boeing 757, which will have new designs to tie in with the new album and tour, will fly the band to Singapore and Indonesia for MAIDEN's first-ever shows there, before arriving in Australia to headline two arena dates and five Soundwave Festivals. Ed Force One then turns its attention briefly to the Northern hemisphere with a first show ever in South Korea and two shows in Tokyo, before heading all the way across the Pacific, a journey which (believe it or not!) is 6660 miles for two shows in Mexico. An extensive series of stadium shows through five South American countries follows, including a first visit to Belem, Northern Brazil, and, via Puerto Rico, the band will play the final show on this leg of the tour in Tampa, Florida, USA on April 17, exactly 66 days after Moscow!

Says Bruce, "We were taken aback by the fantastic reaction from everyone to Ed Force One during the 2008/09 world tour. As our fans all know from the 'Flight 666' film, which documented the trials and tribulations we underwent in order to get the whole project literally off the ground, the end result was well worth all the effort and complex logistics we had to deal with! The band and crew enjoyed themselves so much travelling that way, it seemed only logical to set up this part of 'The Final Frontier' tour in the same way so we could get to see as many fans as possible all over the world, only this time we're pushing the boundaries even further and going to more places MAIDEN has never been before... in true frontier style!! We very much look forward to playing in Singapore, Indonesia and South Korea for the first time, as well as revisiting our fans everywhere else.

"The set list will be different to this year's tour. Of course we will play more songs from the new album and some other recent material, but we will include a healthy dose of older fan favourites as we will be playing to so many new faces who we know will want to hear those songs live for the first time. We will cram into the plane as much of the production we used this year as is physically possible, including of course Eddie, and intend to replicate the spectacular light show in as many places as we are able. All in all it promises to be a fantastic trip for everyone!! So see you all soon."

Since its release in August on EMI (UME in the US), "The Final Frontier" — the band's 15th studio album — has proved their most successful chart album to date, registering the No. 1 sales chart slot in 28 countries around the globe; from Lebanon, Arabia and India in the East, to Canada in the West, New Zealand down South, throughout Europe and across Latin America, as well as reaching No.1 in Billboard's European, Tastemaker and Rock charts, and No. 4 in the USA, which is the band's highest position ever there.

Having already played an extensive 25 date North American Tour and some selected European shows this year, MAIDEN will undertake a full European tour in the summer of 2011. Some dates (as below) have already been announced but keep an eye on this site over the next few weeks and months for many more announcements.

Yep, new Agalloch has leaked. As well as the new Atheist album.

New Kylesa album is good, but they ain't really playing sludge any more. A much more atmospheric version of their last album. I really enjoyed some of the songs from the middle of the album.

New Bongripper album is really good too. Four lengthy songs of doom, sludge, and drone. They even get a bit faster on the second track, slightly akin to some black metal. I get a Weakling vibe from that track actually.

The Daughters album from earlier this year is a lot of fun. Frantic noise rock/metal with hints of their grindcore roots. Fast paced shouted/spoken vocals really mix well with the instruments.

That latest Drudkh album was more of the same atmospheric black metal we come to expect from the band. I enjoyed it.

Any recommendations?

I'm a huge Arjen Anthony Lucassen fan, and his project Star One just dropped a new album called Victims of the Modern Age. Holy shit it is good. It's over the top, excessive space metal so it definitely isn't for everyone but every single track on it is great. Also all of the songs are based off of a different sci-fi story

My favorite track from the album:

Victim of the Modern Age (based on A Clockwork Orange)

Figured you would be one of the people who would enjoy it. I've only heard a couple tracks from the first album actually, I need to grab it soon. If the quality is anywhere near the level of this one though it will find a spot in my regular rotation. Amazing how much musical diversity and talent a single person can have

Really? I've been following their setlists pretty closely, I haven't been unhappy with a single one. It's a fantastic balance of new stuff and the classics

But IIRC you aren't a fan of them post-Imaginations?

Yeah new Atheist is just alright. Wasn't expecting much anyway. It was a enjoyable listen.. but it's missing sommething.

Agalloch is just amazing as expected though. Looking forward to seeing how it grows through repeated listens.

Is Agalloch a black metal band? I've been trying to expand my metal tastes lately, are they fairly accessible for someone new to that style?

I would classify Agalloch as dark folk, though there are certainly some black metal influences.

Check out "The Mantle", as it is the band's highest regarded release, and very accessible at the same time.

Yeah, I'd go with The Mantle for a new listener, Pale Folklore after. Their albums work very well when listening front to back. Solid listening experience. AAtG never worked for me, couldn't get into it at all.

I decided to put an order in for Marrow of the Spirit with Viva Hate for that black case version, don't really care about the shirt though...

Blind Guardian tickets purchased! :D

Nov 19th at The Trocadero in Philly. I fucking hate that venue, and yet I somehow manage to go to at least 2 shows there per year.

Really? I love the Troc. What do you hate about it?

Well, the first thing I hate is that they basically start the line for the show at some random moment which makes it incredibly frustrating to get a nice place to stand during the show even if you show up before anyone else. It's an annoyance.

Also, and this has changed in recent years, but the place used to be fucking roach infested. I remember when my friend and I went to a show and were having a beer at the bar upstairs and we saw these big ass roaches just sprinting up the walls as we enjoyed our Yuenglings. Unacceptable.

Also, the security has never been particularly nice.

All that said, I've seen some incredible shows there. I would just prefer the Electric Factory or TLA in Philly, and better than both is the Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Since it's closer to me, and just a fantastic venue.

Holy shit, awesome! How did you end up pulling that off?

They had some VIP tickets available for the show they are playing here (Florida Powerfest II) and I mainly got the VIP tix just to have the early entry and some other perks.
It was supposed to have a meet and greet but it was only going to be with the first five bands or so (mostly local) but BG was not able to confirm or not but it was finally made official that they will be take part.

Fair enough. The TLA is great as well, I saw Amon Amarth there earlier this year.

Where do we draw the line on 'heavy' these days? I ask because some asshat on last.fm laughed at the idea that Parkway Drive were heavy. Now, if *this* isn't heavy then I need to hear something that is - sick riffage at 1:30 btw. I mean, Maiden isn't heavy any more, but we're not about to start saying the Black Album isn't heavy are we?

On a completely unrelated note, I really want a new Nightwish album :(
