The Midnight Walk

Beautiful looking game. I love when games incorporate physical media into their graphics, like Fantasian.

Anyone who's never played it should check out The Swapper. It's a really cool puzzle game that also has clay based graphics. The effect isn't as fully realized as it is here though.

I had no idea this was clay based, but +1, highly recommended! After The Witness I never thought I would get the itch for puzzle games, but this game got me

FGS LIve From gamescom latam revealed an exclusive developer interview from the creators of Lost In Random, about their new game The Midnight Walk. With its unique hand-crafted visuals and a landscape crafted with real clay, you play a lost lantern creature who brings light to a world of wonder and terror. This first-person game offers puzzles, exploration and jump-scares, with the option to play in virtual reality. The Midnight Walk is coming to PlayStation, PS VR2, and Steam on May 8, 2025.

Completely forgot about this game. It's out today, right?

Just need to find the time to play it. Want to do it strictly in VR, but we've got a 2yo running around the house.

Wait until the 2yo goes to sleep then play it. That's what I do with my kid. She's 5 now, so she doesn't wake up in the middle of the night.....but you catch my drift.

Yeah, I'll just tell my gf to go shopping with my mother-in-law a few times and take the kid with her. Lol

Why are the black areas in the screenshots grey and washed out? They need to do some tone mapping or something to give it some depth.

Right now the screenshots look like a poor HDR implementation, like an Early Diablo 4 or early Control. I can't stand grey blacks since I got my OLED. Sony really needs an option to turn HDR on and off per game in the UI because many games do not have that option natively.

Wanna know what I mean. Go back to the screenshots in the OP. Look at the in game shots vs the real life photos of the devs. Now look how much deeper the blacks are in the photos with the devs and how washed out they are in the game itself. This is my pet peeve!

Bought it, but still in act 2 of Clair Obscur and Doom is coming. I don't know if I manage to play it any time soon, but it looks awesome. I'm at the stage in life where I can buy games full price to put on the back log only to support (single player, cool art style, etc), so that's what I did.

Looks fun but not 40 euros fun

Meh Kinda GIF by Cultura

Started it in Flatscreen mode on Steam for a few min. Getting up close to bring things into focus makes me think this should be played in VR.
I got as far as needing to sneak past the first monster, I got seen and killed.
I need to charge up the Quest 3 and try again in VR mode.

Just finished chapter 2.
Gameplay is nothing new or interesting, but damn!, the artstyle and audio is just off the chart. Wow.
I'm playing on screen. I suspect that the VR experience is a must have if you have VR tbh.

I get the impression this is a game as much fun to watch as to play. Not sure it's $40.
Same, art style is outta this world cool. But, seems mainly just walking around and seeing cool stuff and hearing the stories. Small puzzles that are there simply to give the player something to do.

If it was $10 or so. I may bite. Not for $40.

Finished it last night (nice and shiny platinum):

Verdict: most of this game's value will be in its visuals. There isn't much in the form of gameplay and what is there is underwhelming. But its visuals are so good that I would still recommmend it for $20-$25 price. It's short (3-5 hours), but certainly serves as a testament to this team's capabilities. Hopefully they get the chance to make more.

Bout as expected. Def am in love with it's art style, stop motion, creepy vibe. But, will catch it on sale sometime for a fun pallet cleanser.

I'm glad it supports VR. Otherwise I would have no interest in it.

Honestly, is it that costly for all devs to add VR support to their games? It's money they're leaving on the table, even if just a little extra. Surely it wouldn't cost that much to implement, considering modders do it all the time for free.

Just finished the game. Great endings, it was somewhat touching, especially the Burn Out ending. The fuckers try to pull at your heartstrings right at the eleven hour, huh?

Potboy was the best pot around town.

Edit: Soundtrack was phenomenal.
