recently for me was Dogmeat in FO3. I remember reading about the companion dog in game magazines before the games release and they made sound it was gonna be awesome having him with you but he dies to easy and often jumps into the line of fire.

I'd say the most useless is Pierre, from Chrono Cross. He gets the Hero Medal and stuff and is still like the worst character in the game. :lol

Arguably every party member other than the main is useless in KOTOR considering how easy the game is and how overpowered Revan becomes by the end.

Rafa and Malak Galthana, Final Fantasy Tactics.
1. Both siblings have an ability which hits 4 squares out of 9 randomly and indiscriminately. It means any given target has less than a 50% chance to hit, and you can hit allies.
2. Said attack does ridiculously low damage even if it does hit.
3. The first times you see them they're under computer control. Once one of them managed to double-hit-and-crit one of my own characters.
4. Rafa wins points for Roof of Riovannes Castle where the first move in the fight is often her dying and losing the fight. If she does manage to get a move, she'll attack the strongest enemies, getting killed in the process.
5. Although he doesn't infuriate like Rafa, Malak doesn't even have a cursory use: Rafa's stats make her an ok White Mage with move: find item, but Malak has no redeeming qualities.

Though that characters only saving grace was the fact that he/she/it could "heal" gears when doing gear fights, i'd 100% completely agree at the worthlessness of chu-chu.

People keep saying this, but Yamato Belt and Speed Belt on her said otherwise. She had her uses in the final area where all you had were your gears. She's the only character you can use as a meatshield and resurrect for gear battles. She's also the only unit that can heal other gears. No wasting time with that self healing bullshit in the other gears, I remember she made my final battle (Fei, Emerelda, Chu-Chu) a complete cakewalk.

And people saying Tali was useless, wtf? Ashley is far more useless than Tali.At least Tali has a useful set of skills. Wrex makes Ashley completely obsolete. She's basically there as a romantic subplot, that's all.
