The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

I'm considering selling my Player's Choice Pikmin 2 since I have the Wii version,
and I still haven't really bothered with it. I don't think I really like Pikmin.
But I don't think I'd get much for it since it isn't a black label.

My last statement I was wrong. It seems I WILL be best friends with every other member here. Ahh, back to the pms.
I don't want to be an asshole, but I hope people are being cautious about a new member showing up handing out so many games for such apparently good prices.

He is days old on GAF, not very old on eBay:

YmnjT1R.png

His listings either contain no photos, or stock photos on eBay. He has posted no pictures here on GAF, while his little store seems to have everything.

The couple members I've PM'd here have said he has had some pretty rare stuff, and still offered no photos despite pending sales.

His GAF profile says nothing about owning a gaming shop:

This morning when he was supposedly selling Dreamcasts on eBay like they were going out of style, the only one I actually saw listed, he ended himself:

Link here.

I hope I'm wrong, but he's making me tingle the way he's going into a bunch of retro threads claiming to have the greatest stash there is. Be smart people, ask for proof of items, never use paypal gift with new members. As of right now, he is giving no proof to anyone, but jumping into every retro thread there is like a gaming Jesus.

oh good, that ten dollar copy of Cubivore is now gone too...you're killin me here, smalls vincents

Man, I was going to suggest one of those official white Gamecube controllers that are all over Amazon, but the price literally doubled in the last couple months.

The fuck, gaming?

yeah, i havent seen a garage sale out here in forever, really wish i could hook my buddy up...i think i do have an extra but it's the busted-ass smash bros abused one were my dumb dog also munched on the analog stick as a puppy, so now it almost makes your thumb bleed.

think i can let that one go for $25 or so

The Resident Evil 4 collector's edition basically comes with a 2nd disc that contains cutscenes from games and a short documentary on the making of resident evil 4.

This isn't my photo but it shows what's inside. Apparently it was an Austalian exclusive.

Damn that's awesome. I'm gonna have to look into that. May I ask, how you managed to go about getting one?
Edit: Found one Turns out that I have the grey bonus disc but not the cardboard case and plastic case. Need to buy one but for £50, that's not gonna happen.

I couldn't find a Wii collection thread so I'll ask here, I just bought the Goldeneye Wii Classic Controller Pro Bundle for $38 in new condition. Is that a good deal?

when i was in AU i wish i'dve known to look for that RE4 special edition, i did see the silly chainsaw controller at a friend's house out in brisbane though

I actually found it in a local games store, ended up paying about $30 for it I think.

So I know Godzilla: Save the Earth isnt on Gamecube, but is Destroy All Monsters: Melee actually better than Save the Earth?

I think Destroy All Monsters got the best reviews of that gen's Godzilla games.

People on my local Craigslist want like $60 for it, :(

People on your Craigslist are nuts. I dug out my copy thinking I was about to make a profit, no way. Ebay completed sales are topping out around 30-35.

And, some of those completed auctions are ultra fishy, for a bunch of different games. Disc only copies selling for the same or more as CIB? Something's up. I wish we had a better gauge of market values besides ebay. Too easy to manipulate.

Yes, that is absolutely a great price! Amazon themselves are selling it for that price in acceptable condition so if you got it in a like new condition, you did very well.

Been hanging around here a long time but finally decided to post pictures of my collection. The Gamecube is easily my favourite console ever, and have built up an ok collection I feel.
Here are all my "in box" games though not all of them are the original box (Fire Emblem is in the gamestop box.)
Originally being from England means a lot of these are actually PAL, even though I'm in the US now.

Here's my disc only collection (with a zoom in on the more important ones.) I forgot to put FF:CC in this shot. A lot of these were got in a nice bundle I bought.

Probably my rarest and most prized ones are PSO 1+2 Plus and Pokemon Box. Skies of Arcadia, MGS: tTS and the Zeldas are pretty ok too. I have a Panasonic Q, but not with me right now.

Still quite a few games I want to go! Cubivore, Gotcha Force, Eternal Darkness, Doshin the Giant, the Bomberman games and need to NTSC up the rest of my PAL games too.

PSO keyboard? Is that what I think it is?
Pics please!

There you go! :D
Bought it off ebay for about $30. C stick is a bit worn down but other then that it's in fantastic condition. It looks bigger than it actually is... here's a comparison shoot with the wiiu gamepad.

Also I have Question for Gamecube GAF. What is the best possible set up for getting the best image quality out of the cube? I know about the Component cables but those are worth an arm and leg. I don't want to spend $200 on a cable.

Component or D Terminal Cables are the only way to get 480p out of the 'Cube. If you're not desperate for the Gameboy Player or System Link then a Wii with component cables is your next best option. The Wii's component output is close to the 'cubes despite some bad shots trying to show otherwise. The real possible best output is a modded VGA cable, but that's going to cost you the component cable + work on it, with the risk of potentially losing your component cable.

Having a PAL 'cube lets you have RGB out of your cube which will provide the best picture for non-480p games, but for most games will still be a step down from component (Games that don't support progressive scan will be marginally better than component, but they're a minority.)

Having a US 'cube means you're probably best off going with S-Video if you don't want to mod. It's a monumental step up from composite and is only a bit worse than Component for 480i.

A nice CRT would help with a 480i source, you could probably find one cheap or free if you keep an eye out. Lot of people just want to get rid of them these days. Alternatively, a scaler like XRGB.

Wii U with Devolution is supposed to be a good option, but I've never tried it. That isn't ideal though since it requires a Wii with homebrew too, but if you have both systems it might be worth checking out.

thanks for the info guys. I did some research and have been looking into the D terminal cables. I dont have a japanese tv so I found out that there is a d terminal to component cable, would this work? also will the D terminal cable work on north american gamecubes?

I'm like 95% sure D terminal works fine as long as you have the DOL 001 cube with the digital port. D terminal component should also be fine, but again, I only have the component cable so I can't give you definite answers.

Are you even sure its worth it? The D terminal cables, from a quick search, are only marginally cheaper than component cables, with the converter surely they'd be pretty much the same price.

Edit: actually yeah, you might be able to save like $50.

I managed to find some decently priced d terminal cables and the converter shouldnt be to much. but u are right that it would be just a little cheaper then the component. I'm just trying to keep all my options open. haha. :p thanks for the clarification though.
:D

I've been trying to get in touch with zephervack about some Wavebirds sans receivers he was interested in. Anyone heard from him lately? Thanks!

Heh, I bought a Wavebird a few days ago because my normal controllers got thrown out (along with my memory card) and I just needed a controller to play games on so thought I'd go for a Wavebird.

Got it for £33 in pretty good condition, just some light yellowing on the analogue stick.

I just started collecting Gamecube recently (after selling it all off a while ago). I had 40 games or so at one point, including most of the rare ones. My collection nowadays is pretty weak, but am working on it:

Darkened Skye
Skies of Arcadia Legends (got a complete copy for $17.99!)
Starfox Adventures
Super Mario Sunshine
Viewtiful Joe 2
Wave Race: Blue Storm

There is a store in the area that has a Gamecube component cable for $130. Very tempting considering that's cheaper than eBay but am hoping that I'll get insanely lucky at a flea market or something someday. They also have Gotcha Force for $49.99, but it's disc only.

I wonder if it'll be a short spike? I mean Nintendo is probably going to start producing actual cube controllers again now with that adapter in play. That Smash Icon is nice.

I hope so, it would mean I can stock up on brand new Nintendo quality wired Gamecube controllers. They would probably stabilize the market price for a while too.

^for real, watch them jump in price now

Exactly what I thought when I saw this announcement.

Unless Nintendo re-release a new Wavebird...

I wish they had rumble...

...with rumble....

...and rechargeable battery.

Damn, they should release a new Wavebird 2.0 instead of a wired controller+adapter when I think of it! At some point it wouldn't even need a GC adapter since they could just make it wireless with the Wii U, but it's cool to have all my old controllers compatible, too. The wire is so short though. :(

Yeah, I agree, but this is being done (in part) so competitive players don't complain about the lag from wireless and there's no interference at tournaments.
