The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

wow, that's an awesome collection you've got right there, I would have loved to have that quantity of games for this console (sadly, where I live, games are a bit more expensive).
I really miss the nintendo gamecube (since I sold it to a family member), I consider it to be a console with many great games that were underrated, and it had probably one of my favorite games of all time:

Paper Mario and the thousand year door, a great game, beautiful visuals and creativity, and it introduced amazing characters that sticked to you, I just loved every party member on the game. I just wish they could launch a new mario RPG for the wii u with the mechanics of those old mario rpgs (Like the one from SNES and the Paper Mario Saga from 64 and GC).

Also, if the wii U gets a gamecube VC release, that would be a selling point for me.

I've been looking into buying a Gamecube now that I've got a steady income seeing that I missed out on one when I was a kid (had a PS2) but man, PAL prices are crazy.

I'm trying to find AU non-greatest hits copies of everything on ebay, and you really can't be picky when it comes to the condition the manual and stuff are in :\

Currently watching the following stuff, just about ready to say fuck it and hit buy on them lol (I've included postage into the prices):

Pikmin 1 + 2 - $100
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - $80
Viewtiful Joe 1 + Red Hot Rumble - $50
Baten Kaitos - $60 (most definitely going to snap this up, AU copies must be rare as hell)
Super Smash Bros Melee - $60

Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart etc are fairly common so I'm in no rush to buy them just yet.

Holy crap those prices are definitely crazy. :O

Do they have to be Australian copies? I'm thinking you could find many of them much cheaper from European countries. I understand wanting to get whatever release was the local one, I used to do that with SCN (Scandinavia) releases myself, but these days I don't care about that because SCN prices have also gone crazy.

And if you're thinking of buying them based on how common they are, you can wait on Smash Bros as well since that was the best selling game on the system. :)

Off-Topic: Is there a thread that focuses on Wii/Wii U game collecting?

On-Topic: My copy of Luigi's Mansion (which is still sealed) will be coming along any day now. I can't wait!

I've not seen one yet but maybe it's time for a Wii one? I believe these threads normally start as the consoles die out of the mainstream after a successor is released. There is a thread for DS collecting so I donlt see why we couldn't have one for the Wii.

I like to get Australian copies because they have the actual logo on the spines, European copies just have a generic font.
I assume so at least seeing that's how it worked for all Wii games I bought from the UK last gen.
My PS2/3 collections I don't care about Aus copies cause it's the same either way.

And yeah I know Melee is common, but it's the game I want to play most on the system :P

Pikmin I probably won't buy yet at least seeing I've played the New Play Control versions on Wii.

Just added a Wavebird and Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door to my collection :D Been wanting to play TTYD for years now, and I figured it would only go up in value... probably... so what the hell.

Nice. Still yet to own a copy of this.

Last day to get 2 free (albeit shitty) FIFA games for GameCube.

Got a copy of Pikmin for $10, a wavebird for $25, and Mario Party 4, 6, and 7 for $60 yesterday between Game XChange in Waxahachie and Half Price Books in Dallas! Mario Party 6 and 7 came with the cardboard boxes and microphones. All were CIB. Very nice haul. :)

Just missed 2 wavebirds for $15 on my local CL :(

Does anyone here know if the pac man vs game ever came as a non GH release? I've only ever seen a greatest hits version.

Ah I see. Didn't know that. Yeah looking at my European GC games they all just have a generic font, except for Gun for some reason. It's an Italian release though, maybe they had logos as well? But then the box and manual are in Italian obviously.

A fair few of my UK copies have generic font, but I still have a load with logo's... Tomb Raider Legend, SSX Tricky and 3, Tony Hawks games, Eternal Darkness, Mario Party 4... and a few others too. Seems like a fair mix of logo'd and non-logo'd stuff.

What batteries are people using on their Wavebirds?

Mine just doesn't play nice no matter what rechargeables I seem to use - it doesn't even play nice with freshly charged eneloops. I keep experiencing a drop in power.

Non rechargeable Duracells, though, no problem.

Pac-Man Vs. came in its own individual package at select retailers. It's a small cardboard sleeve that was given away as preorder bonus. Otherwise the only way is through PC combo pack with Pac-Man World or non-PC R Racing. I've heard rumors of people saying select copies of I-Ninja had it too but have never seen one.

Score!! Got it Entertainmart in Addison, TX. Never see Twin Snakes in the wild not behind glass for less than $30. Missing the manual though...

Figured I could show off my collection here!
A lot of used games in it, so a lot of the cases aren't official. But every game I own has a case, minus Pokemon Channel, and I don't have any empty cases :D. I believe I'm at 40 or 41 games. I made a list of which ones I wanted, i think the total was 83, so I'm about halfway there.

Awesome Metal Gear Solid pickup above me, man. I'm jealous.

I got my copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes at a local shop called Game World for $20 a few years ago, and they threw in the player's guide for free. Both were in great condition.

I still haven't finished that version of the game, though. Heh. I did finish the original Playstation version many years ago, though, but I lent it to a friend about 9 years ago, and he never returned. Hell, I don't think I even saw him again. Every time I tried asking him online to return it, he'd ignore my asking him about it or tell me that he already returned it (which he didn't). If I called his place, his mom picked up and went all crazy, like "Who is this?! My son doesn't have a PlayStation! I'm gonna call the cops!" or something like that. My friend was playing it on his laptop with an emulator, using my discs...and a USB PC controller that I also lent him. Oh, well...at least it taught me not to lend anyone anything. That was the first time I ever did it, and it was a big mistake.

Why don't you remove the stickers

I wish there was a good list of Gamecube exclusives somewhere. The best one I can find is from 2004 (so missing A LOT of games) and then I wish there was a list of games that were best on the Gamecube. Considering taking it up upon myself to make such a list.

Wikipedia has a list that says there are 96 Cube exclusives:

Thanks! But I have seen this before and it's missing key details. IE There were quite a few games that were exclusive to the Gamecube in certain regions like there's one DieHard game which only released on the 'Cube in NA. It's also missing games which are significantly different versions of the same game like PSO ep.1,2+ and Skies of Arcadia: Legends.

Hell it's straight up missing some titles like Pokemon Box, Donkey Konga 2 and Virtua Striker 2002.

I had forgotten about this list though! So thank you for linking it. It does fill in some gaps. c=

$15 for Twin Snakes is, presumably, a bargain? My copy cost me around £30, and that was five years ago....

£30 currently equals roughly $50 USD. I have no idea what the exchange rate was 5 years ago. $15 USD is only £9.

Twin Snakes was $49.99 brand new in 2004.

has trading taken place in this thread??

I have a copy of Paper Mario: TTYD that I don't really need or want and would be willing to exchange it for something nice with someone here in need of a copy (player's choice if you ask).

but first things first, is suggesting a Trade allowed in the thread???

How much would a signed copy by Kojima of twin snakes go for? I have it sitting here, doubt I sell but curious for how much it's worth.

So I finally have some GameCube Component Cables thanks to working out a deal with 7DollarHagane on the boards. Just wanted to share some pictures and captures of the Cube in 480p upscaled with an XRGB Mini. Hope someone enjoys seeing them.

I still haven't figured out how to embed youtube links so if someone can/wants to I would appreciate it.

Help GC GAF!

I've got a chance to buy NTSC copies of RE2, 3 and Code Veronica, but I have no idea what to offer for them to give us both a fair deal.

Thoughts?

So I was just reading up on the Resident Evil releases on the 'cube
So
REMake
RE: Zero
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil: CVX
Resident Evil 4

But I've read that, of these, only RE4 supports 480p? Can someone confirm this?

I'm pretty sure that only the Wii version of RE4 supports 480p. I could be wrong.

Just got a CIB copy of twilight princess for $35. So excited to play this game without motion controls...

Now if only I had component cables!

No, the Gamecube version of RE4 supports progressive scan 480p, even though the box doesn't say so (which is the case for a handful of GC games). The rest of the Resident Evil games on the Gamecube don't. To be absolutely sure, I just popped each of them in and double checked.

The Gamecube was probably the apex of Nintendo gaming innovation and variety as far as traditional gaming is concerned.

I love that the Wii U is coming back to the traditional form since to me the Wii really deviated from classic Nintendo with the focus on Miis and motion gaming.

I absolutely love the Gamecube and i hope when all is said and done the Wii U will be close to what the Gamecube's library brought to the table.

Such a fun system and it has one of the best controllers ever make.

Thanks for verifying that!
So, given that I care about 480p I guess the Wii Versions of REmake and RE:Zero would be my best bet for those games
Also I guess RE2/RE3 would be best on Dreamcast?
I guess RE:CVX (with bonus content) might still be "best" on the 'cube then.
