The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

Anyone got recommendations/tips for replacing the C stick in GC controllers with an analog stick? I was hoping to buy some spare ones and replace them as I don't have enough controllers to cannibalize. I have a Wavebird and soon a black Smash Bros style GC to replace. I looked on ebay for spare sticks (seem easy to get for PS4 and Xbone sticks), but the sticks just look...off in pictures. Anyone know a proper seller for official or at least acceptable sticks?

Grabbed this beauty a few weeks ago. Mainly thanks to ClassicGameRoom's awesome review and the Wii U VC release of the GBA game.

Yes and no. It works fine with the Nintendo component cables for progressive scan with games, but funny enough the DVD player only outputs S-vid or composite.

Wow. Just, wow. That's completely insane. So basically if you want to fully use the device, you need to have two sets of cables plugged into it? MAN, Nintendo / Panasonic.

The GC component only does video anyway, so you need to use both outputs regardless or you won't have sound.

I just sold my Q the other day :/ got it back when it first came out and it's just been sitting on a shelf for the most part. Trying to just hold onto things I'll actually use.

Such a gorgeous machine though.

how much was your in box "new" Panasonic Q? whats the average price for those in that condition today, what about if i want a used but near-mint one?

Bought it for around 1250 Australian dollars. I might have been ripped off but honestly I'm fine with that. Been looking for this thing for a long while now. I don't think you can find a mint one under 600 but the major problem really is finding one at all. Took me ages to find this

welp, crossing that off my list. lol

i'll stick with my USB-loading wii, Enjoy your Q though. If I had the cash I'd do the same lol.

Wow... Hate to rain on your parade, but you can get it in box for $600 on ebay, Even lower if you just need it in good condition. I got mine from a gaffer without box and in need of like a $20 repair for $200 a year ago. Granted this is US money, but you still overpaid a bit.

Yeh I know what you mean but not of them were sealed. Plus with the Australian dollar now weak it just put me in a worse position. Either ways it's something I've been waiting ages to buy so I sort of jumped the gun and dove right in when I saw it brand new and sealed. Have you used yours? What sort of transformer would you recommend this is actually the first JAP console I'll actually be hooking up.

Hey, you changed your avatar! (What are those things?)

Nice get! I've had my eye on this one for a while. Love to hear how you like it! :)

So, I've been looking for a mini disc/GameCube disc binder for all of my games. I only have like 20 discs right now but would really like a binder that could fit 40-50 like regular disc binders in case I decide that many more in the future. Does anyone know of any such binders I could purchase?

binders can fuck up your discs longterm.

Is there any reason to own a Gamecube if you own a B/C Wii?

I hear the GC has better video quality, just slightly, but you need those crazy priced cables, which i don't have.

There's not incompatibility issues with any game, right?

There's not incompatibility issues with any game, right?

3 Reasons:

- Better video quality through component on the Gamecube (though the cable is probably not worth the price.)
- GBA Player only works on the actual 'cube.
- LAN games also only work on the actual cube.

The best combo is really a Wii U and a Gamecube.

The only other reasons I can think of are specific peripheral support (e.g. Game Boy Player, possibly the LAN adapter, etc). Otherwise the Wii is fine.

Yeah, not every interested in LAN or GBA play. If component cables were more reasonable I would bite. Those are just insane.

Hi fellow GameCube fans. You may remember that at some point last year I posted a message about sending off my Gamecube for a custom colour job. Well...I finally have it. The package arrived a few weeks back, but had to put off opening it due to unforeseen circumstances. I had it coloured yellow. Apologies for the awful photos, took them on my phone, don't have a DSLR or anything, and not good at taking photos.

I love it. Will hopefully take a few pictures of it sitting on my black Gameboy Player soon. Woohoo.

P.S. It may look a bit orangey in the photos, but it's very much yellow.

Looks fantastic! Who did it/what're costs like/is the finish nice?

I'm on my phone on a train, so can't get a link at the moment, but it was done by CustomNESGuy. You can find a page on Facebook and he has a YT channel, I think. It cost me $330 in total, which is a lot, but note that I went for the more expensive matte finish, had to pay for shipping to the UK (he's based in the US) and paid for extra repairs to my console (scratched lid plate, damaged console - there was a bit broken off, yellowed controller port face).

Managed to find his FB page:

https://m.facebook.com/Customnesguy

When I first e-mailed him to make a request, this is the info he gave me:
. I use professional automotive paints and materials, same that I have used to paint cars for the last 16 years. I clean, sand every single square inch, apply the color, and then apply 3 coats of clear which is hand buffed after it dries. It is not lacquer based. Lacquer is really old technology, and not as good as the catalyzed urethane clear used today.

I can do a matte finish, but it actually will cost more than gloss because I have to add another item in the mixture to degloss the clear, which is naturally glossy.

I can restore the top jewel as well 9 times out of 10.
He came off as very professional and it truly shows in the finished product. I'm hoping to get a handheld done by him, or maybe a Wavebird, in the future.

If you're interested, I'd highly recommend contacting him for a quote.

I love the GC but my official collection of games stands at only the following games. I do have more but they have become available on other platforms (WW, Ikaruga etc,) so to save shelf space I have stored them in the loft.

PN03
R: Racing Evolution
MK Double Dash

I wouldn't mind getting Star Fox Adventures but it's pricey new.

Yeah, I know but I would really like to have it just in case. It's easier for me to take out, like how I have all of my 3DS/DS games in one case.

IDK, personally I don't see the point for short term convenience until your games stop working because they're scratched to hell as a result of the binder.

Don't think you'll find much help with this, and rightly so.

I like the appeal of a small, well-curated library. Before 2007 or so, I had like 6 GCN games.

It's rare for me to ever break 20 games for a single console, and I still have like 11 consoles hooked up to my TV.

Lately, I always try to trim the fat before I go on another shopping spree.

Love the cube, one of the few collections i'll never sell. Especially as nowdays finding mint copies of games with undamaged slipcovers is extremely hard. I really wish someone would make box protectors for Japanese cube games, find it a bit of a joke that westernn cube boxes have protectors made for them even though they don't need them because they come in dvd cases, madness /rant

Thought i'd share my collection, not actively collected for it just the games that i had amassed over the years as they were released.

I had loads more but I traded them on for other things. Kept it down to a core of the games I actually played often. Seems to have worked what with all the re-releases, but I had stuff like both Lost Kingdoms games and Eternal Darkness.

So i'm starting my quest for a Panasonic Q gameboy player. If anyone here knows where to find one please let me know. Heard these bad boys are extremely rare now and i can't seem to find any on Ebay.

Completed Star Fox Adventures yesterday in anticipation of this years big release, and while I really liked it at first, and still believe in a more adventuresque turn for the series, I must say Adventures is pretty mediocre. It kinda feels unfinished with lots of scavenger hunts, reusing of areas and very little thought out level design, which is sad, since the game has so many good ideas. But I guess the game is kinda typical for Rare at that time (stuff like Jet Force Gemini and DK64 share a lot of its problems imo).

Anyways, on to Star Fox Assault now and HOLY SHIT is that first level great. Too bad the game just goes downhill from there :(

Seems like my Launch gamecube has finally kicked the bucket after being under my TV for 13 years :(

Gave GC one last try and it booted up and seemed fine.

How long does it take to go from one to the other? Might be worth changing the thermal paste; overheating GPUs sometimes produce wacky garbled screens similar to that.

Depends really. Sometimes right away other times it takes a minute or so. The greenscreen hit after playing Blood Omen for about an hour. Before that it worked perfectly since the day I bought it on launch.

One side does seem to be emitting heat although not that much really.
