The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

I don't like the new triggers as much. It's not a huge difference, but from the perspective of a sorta-competitive PM/Melee player, the can "stick/jam" if you hit them wrong, and I do that sometimes since I use them so frequently and quickly. Under normal circumstances the difference is pretty much negligible though.

Agree that the stick feels a bit tighter, which I like. I just attributed that to it being new though, all my other controllers are pretty old in comparison.

In fairness, those Commodore monitors are capable of s-video. You need a converter cable, though, as all they have are luma and chroma inputs.

Back to component cable talk briefly, there's one for sale locally here for the equivalent of $135 USD. I already got mine from Nintendo Australia when they were selling them at cost but I'd be happy to pick this up for a desperate gaffer and ship it over if wanted.

That's a DAMNED fine offer, folks!

That's a great deal. Is it busted up or something? I know I would be interested if I didn't have some other shit on my plate right now.

Naw it's second hand but in great condition, so they say. I think the market here is just smaller. Plus most of us who wanted one probably nabbed them from Nintendo Aus in the last few years. I mean I'd need the cost of shipping it from here covered but that wouldn't add too much unless you want it tracked (which for some reason costs a mint here).

Again I'm so glad that I got mine from AUS while they still had some.

I do wonder if at some point with them going on ebay for like 250+ that it has to make some sense for someone to reverse engineer it.

As far as I understand its been done, and currently a work in progress over on the shmups board.

Well shit, I don't spend much time there but your right, some one did clone it but doesn't seem anyone has put together an end product yet, I'll have to go through the whole thread, thanks for the heads up.

Eek. I'm interested if you can verify the condition of the cable. Have you had a chance to look at it and will you be able to test it?

I generally play my GameCube collection on my Wii to reduce TV hookups required, but I've been setting up a retro area in my place and wanted to have a true GameCube set up there (plus the startup sound brings back so many memories). Found my old gamecube and noticed there was a huge chip on the bottom plastic of the case.

Question is, how hard is it to take apart a GCN? Plenty of broken systems for parts I could find on ebay for $3-4 with better plastic, would it be that much of a pain to switch the innards of my current system into another case? I know I would need a special screwdriver, but is it feasible or should I just look for a full replacement?

It's very easy to move a Gamecube to a new case. It's a beautifully designed system, total efficiency inside there. There are no crazy daughterboards or strange cables winding all over. It's just one board, the disc drive on top of that, and the parts required to house the various external connections. Everything's easy to remove and put back correctly.

Awesome, exactly what I wanted to hear. Can clean out the inside in the process this way too. Thanks!

Well it's listed online, but they live in my city. I don't see any reason for them to lie about the condition and I have the setup to test it myself at home too before I send it off.

I'm not aware of any particular issues with these cables, but if you know something I don't, let me know and I could check or ask about it.

Thanks. I'll PM you shortly if I'm definitely interested.

The only thing that could really "hurt" one is damage to the block that plugs into the console. Any other damage is totally repairable with little technical knowledge.

Hnnnnng. I really want it, but given that GBP has been dropping agains tthe $, the cable would set me back about £90 plus whatever the shipping is from Peagles land. Not sure I want to spend that much on component cables at the moment, but know I'll likely never find one for that price again. I do have a RGB scart cable at the moment that I got from eBay last year, one that Peagles actually linked me to.

I already have my component cables, but I'd totally jump on it if I were you.

Got my SD launcher. Not sure I have much use for it right now but I wanted one while they are available.

Shame it doesn't fit in a memory card slot in the case. Going to try to cut out the bottom and top of the slot and see how that works.

Mine didn't come with the 1GB SD card that it says was included. There is a tiny USB thing that I guess is supposed to be the memory card adapter (microSD I guess? It's so small). I guess neither of those are really necessary, since I have an SD card and can use my own reader for it.

Edit: Looks like it was a microSD reader. Was. Tried to get the cap off but it broke to pieces. Still did not get the cap off...

Neat. Are there really no covers for this yet?

DO IT. DOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIITTT.

Nintendont is go! Played some Vietwiful Joe using a real GameCube controller on my WiiU. I could feel the "heroness" awaken!

I think it works out better than using Swiss on a GameCube. It's easier to navigate, and doesn't require swapping disks.

I had no idea this existed. Nintendo released a first party SD Card adapter (DOL-019) for the memory card slot along with Animal Crossing in Japan.

I stupidly went through a Gamecube Purge when i was younger. Sold off Path of Radiance and Zoids Battle Legends among others. Maybe someday, itll return to its former glory.

But I have Gotcha Force. So glad I kept it.

According to this in was mail-order only. I didn't know there was an AC bundle too.

If i remember correctly doubutsu no mori e+ used the SD card adapter but it didn't come bundled together. The first doubutsu no mori game did come in a bundle but it was with the e-reader. The SD adapter was used to save your town as a special visitor file that you could save to the SD card, you would then email the data to someone using a pc who also had an SD adapter and the same game and they could put the card in and then load up your town file so they could visit it and read the messages you left for them.

It was available from Nintendo's online store, they have a lot of things like that which are online store only. Twilight princess on the GC was only available through Nintendo's online store in Japan which is why it's harder to find than regular games.

The band bros expansion cart, play-yan media player for the gba and the kid icarus AR card decks are all other things that are exclusive to their store, they have a lot of cool stuff hidden away on there.

Yeah they were released on the same day, i think there is a couple of other games that use it i remember a baseball game using it but i can't remember the other.

I have one. I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread. Don't get excited; it doesn't work with anything but Animal Crossing.

Impotaku seems to think they work on a select few other games. Going by the breadth of their library I'm included to believe that's the case.

Edit: This seems to be a compatibility list

Could have sworn it was one of the pawafuru pro yakku baseball games but it seems my memory has totally crapped out on me lol. Just checked my pokemon channel box, yup the sd adapter mark is on there.

I'm playing Chibi Robo for the first time. So far it's a charming game. Hope it doesn't get too repetitive as I get further.
A truly awesome experience. You won't believe how clever a story the game has.

Gameplay has a certain Anilmal Crossing meets Zelda vibe. It's repetitive, but in a relaxing way.
