If anyone is near Chula Vista, CA there's a guy selling 4 wavebirds for $70. They all have receivers, too. Here's the link: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/vgm/5170029261.html
Yeah. I remember buying it for literally $3. Didn't pay that much more than that for Path of Radiance, the pikmin games or skies of Arcadia either.Man, remember when F-Zero GX was like $2 at GameStop because it had bombed so nasty and nobody wanted to play it?
=[
No problem. Best of luck with your project.Local sale on gumtree, looks to be sold now. sorry man
oh by the way, I'm currently setting up the final plans for my new home. Building it from scratch, one bedroom bungalow, large open plan living room, etc. This gives me the perfect opportunity to deck the living room out with shit I probably don't need. One thing I'm gonna do is have a panel near the sofa area for USB connections that will run to the entertainment unit under the TV - but I'm seriously considering adding gamecube ports to one of the panels too
just because I can
Argh, you make me want an orange controller now. This thread makes me feel really nostalgic. I had a black Gamecube with a bright orange controller. It looked so good.
Wii is inexpensive right now, but I'd expect the Nintendo tax to kick in soon for that system as well. Buy now while prices are cheap. I'm guessing the price hike skipped n64 due to many of the games not aging well( par for that era), and/or some of the better games available in some form elsewhere( Mario 64, Zelda OOT/MM, Starfox 64 have all been ported to DS/3DS, Conkers is on xbox and compatible with 360, Banjo is on xbox live, etc etc).
Price increases haven't skipped N64. Prices have been steadily increasing. Take a look:
http://videogames.pricecharting.com/console/nintendo-64?sort-by=name
I do agree though that Gamecube will continue and at some point in the future Wii will start, though it may take a while for some games due to the number of Wii's and Wii games in the wild.
Yeah I see a few WTF prices but generally it looks like most of the stuff people would want won't cost you a kidney. Conkers seemed like one of the big name titles to get a major spike. I don't think overall the n64 is treated with the same reverence as the snes.
so, waiting for them to arrive...does anyone know of any differences in quality between the standard gamecube controllers and the new Smash Bros branded ones?
Edit: I guess what I'm saying is N64 dropped much lower than GC did. That means you can still pick up most N64 games relatively cheap despite the steady increases. GC in comparison remained much higher making the increase more noticeable.
Left stick is slightly better, shoulder buttons are worse-ish. If you don't push them straight down they are hard to press and jam, but if you push them straight down they are fine. Personally I don't have a problem with them.
Otherwise they are practically the same, except with a longer cord.
This sounds right. GC games never cratered the way cartridges did in the early 2000's. SNES games, even the rarest of the rare, absolutely tanked and could be had for a pittance for a period of time. I think it coincides with the emerging trend of video game collecting for older consoles at about the time the Gamecube aged out. Lots of people just wised up and the vast majority didn't dump their collections for pennies at garage sales or donate them to Goodwill.
As it is, I've got just about everything that's good on the Gamecube (with a few excepions) so I'm set.![]()

cool thanks
are the shoulder trigger issues related to the actual triggers themselves or the component on the PCB? Because if it's the former, I wonder if swapping them with an old launch GC pad's parts would do the trick. If it's the latter then..uh, I guess I could swap that over too.
The Twin Snakes is going for $45-50 on ebay these days. Is this partially because of the imminent release of MGSV and all the crazy Konami/Kojima stuff in the news, and the prices can be expected to drop a little bit in a few months, or can one assume that the prices are going to stay steady or keep going up? Debating with myself whether or not to bite now or wait.
The prices haven't skyrocketed for N64, but they have been steadily increasing. Especially for CiB games. I think N64 is just getting started really though. Some of the Rare or uncommons have definitely started increasing. A CiB Worms Armageddon for example will easily cost you over $300 and pushing $400.
I think the downward trend most consoles experience after their lifespan skipped Gamecube keeping prices higher than past consoles at the same point in their life. Without the same dramatic downward trend tge upward spike is much more noticeable on GC.

Makes me glad I stocked up on most of the GC games I wanted years ago, nor did I trade off most of my games like I've done for other systems only to regret it later. Still really want skies of arcadia and fire emblem POR, but I'd have to sell my kidney for those.
Well, it is brand new CIB which is pretty rare, but why would you pay for that? The whole point is to use the cables not stare at it on the shelf.
I sure hope this is true. That said, doesn't seem like a good investment given a clone cable or good HDMI alternative is on the horizon.
I sure hope this is true.
Make no mistake, N64 prices absolutely have risen quickly over the past decade! Games like Worms Armageddon, Conker, Ogre Battle 64, etc. cost a LOT more now than they did ten years ago. There's been a lot of N64 price inflation, I've really noticed it. For a while in the mid '00s the N64 was a very cheap console to collect for. That has not been the case for some years now. There is still room for plenty of games to increase in price, I do agree there, but prices have risen significantly. The prices haven't skyrocketed for N64, but they have been steadily increasing. This I do agree with though, yes. The GC definitely didn't drop nearly as much as N64, it never did bottom out like N64 did after its life was over. Maybe the GC backwards compatibility in Wiis helped hold prices up? That did greatly increase the number of people who could play GC games!I think the downward trend most consoles experience after their lifespan skipped Gamecube keeping prices higher than past consoles at the same point in their life. When you guys are game hunting, how you ever came across Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance?

i got mine at a gamestop like 10 years ago

I'm just saying, whether it's a smooth increase or jumping up at points doesn't matter so much to me as the end result does, comparing ten years ago to now prices-wise. When you do that you see a HUGE difference in N64 prices, as you say. It's risen a lot. That is not true for all systems -- the original Xbox hasn't seen much of a price increase, for instance.I agree they have risen, but it's been a more steady increase compared to SNES which exploded, IMO. The person I replied to was saying the high prices skipped N64 and I was saying it had been a steady increase even posting the proof with the Price Charting graph. I still think N64 is poised for a bigger increase like SNES has experienced over the last few years
I started noticing the N64's price inflation several years back, when games like SSB suddenly weren't cheap anymore.Any way, GC was different, IMO. The prices didn't bottom out so there wasn't as much ground to make up as N64 had. That means smaller increases seem more noticeable where N64 has experienced steady increases for a couple years with some not really noticing it.
Generally most people say that Rogue Leader is the better game, yes. It was a launch title, first, and made a big impression because of its amazing graphics and simple but great gameplay; I got the game at launch, and was really impressed. Compared to that Rebel Strike does have better graphics than RL does, but it released a few years later so people weren't as impressed compared to what existed at the time, I guess. Also of course there was the big backlash against the on-foot missions. I think that RL is a little better than RS, but RS is a lot better than most people give it credit for -- it is a great game, no question. I like all of the missions except for the on-foot parts, just like ho, and those are just overly simplistic, not actually terrible. The graphics are amazing too, maybe the best on the Gamecube -- RL looked like it pushed the system, and then RS is able to run that game, full detail, in splitscreen! Just amazing. Stuff like the Endor levels also look incredible. Is Rouge Leader considered better than Rebel Strike? I've been playing both again after years of not playing and Rebel Strike feels the best. If not for the on foot missions it'd be the absolute best.
Factor 5's flight model is very simplistic, but it's good for the game because the game is designed around that; with more complex flight modeling, meeting the very difficult mission objectives (if you want to get gold medals particularly) would be absurdly difficult!I don't know, maybe I've just been spoiled but it's hard to play them, I'm so used to modern aircraft controls like in Ace Combat and Battlefield. Having completely control over the pitch, roll, and yaw.
Gotcha Force rocks. Shame it's so pricey. I'd recommend it to everyone otherwise.

Tight controls, good variety in playable characters, good multiplayer, good replayability, and most of all it's fun. It's honestly one of the better gamecube games if one can afford it.Is it? That's one of maybe 3-4 games I still need in my GameCube exclusives collection but I've held off due to price. If it's as good as you say then maybe I'll put it back on my radar.

I want to say I looked into picking up a copy 3-4 years ago to replace the one I sold back in the day and it was going for about that much. Man some of my biggest gaming regrets are getting rid of some old GC games. I hung on to the system and most of the games but unloaded stuff like Skies of Arcadia, Metal Gear, Eternal Darkness, TimeSplitters 2, 1080 and FZero GX that i've had the itch to replay over the years but couldn't. One day I'll build my collection back up.
Huh... randomly checked Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance prices again and, at least on Amazon, used copies are $100 and new copies are $200. Which is like... crazy.
I can't believe how expensive this system has gotten.
(also kinda thinking about finally playing my copy of FE)
Also, what the goddamn fuck: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-O...EM-US-JAPAN-/131573689054?hash=item1ea2672ade
I know the price has been going up, but more than $500 for component cables with almost a day to go still? Shit's outta hand.
I'm glad I'm out of school now and can afford to keep buying the shit I want, but man... I can imagine retro gaming as a whole being precisely no fun for people who don't have a healthy amount of disposable income.

Man thats some great stuff you got rid of. What did you end up keeping, and why did you get rid of those games above?
I guess I figured I wasn't gonna replay them. The worst part is I sold them to GameStop so i got ripped off on top of it. I was a GC only gamer at first but I eventually picked up a PS2 so I think I sold them to get some PS2 games. I kept mostly Nintendo first party stuff on principle. Still have Pikmin, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart, Wind Waker, the two Zelda bonus discs, PSO and a few others I'm forgetting.
